One point that crosses over with this is what the DMV registers the car as: As raised in previous threads one point in many states that requires front and rear plates can is where to put a front plate on a 7, I just found out that in Oregon you can apply for a "SP" plate (Special Interest) if the car is over a certain age, or a street rod based on a 1949 or earlier model, or bla bla bla etc etc.;this allows the car to run on a rear plate only. I might soon have the oldest 7 on the planet. If a 7 does not qualify as "Special Interest " I don't know what should.

I agree Al, I have had many friends that are really in to cars say.... "it is nothing but a frame" about the 7, they say it in a good way but I do not know (as much as I love my car) that I would call it drop dead gorgeous, (as are many Lotus, Jags, etc of the same period ).It does attract attention tho.My personal fave that I actually owned was a 1963 Jaguar FHC E Type that really was stunning from all angles, I loved to wash and polish that car,lol. I have had people liken my 7 to : 1)Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, 2)"where do we rent that go-cart Dad"?, 3)a beach buggy, yup 2 ppl asked me how it handles in the dunes, and finally the one that I love....4)" across between an Aardvark and an electric toaster". Having said all that I love that X1, and I applaude anyone that loves cars and personally ,(though I am not a regulator here), think this is a friendy group that welcomes all cousins of the 7, so cheers and Good Luck with your new "mistress". :hurray:

I did call Hagerty and had quite a problem with them identifying what the car is, the lady then said that the policy was basically for parades, going to car shows etc. with the odd pleasure drive, when I asked if there was a mileage limit she got hazy and said "well no, not as such". I then asked that what if I wanted to drive all the way down the Pacific Coast and she siad "in that case we would not be the insurance company for you".

I thought that in it's original Lotus form the 11 was a space frame and that the body work was stressed, that making it part of the chassis,plus it was built just to race, it is only in kit form that I have seen one on the road. I am looking for input on insuring a 7, your experiences relating to : costs,type of coverage, restrictions,mileage limits (if any), collectors versus regular companies, etc etc. Any recommendations ? Thanks David

Yes I agree, Dealing with DMV even with a regular car or getting a new drivers license is normally a mind numbing experience. Roll the dice and pray to your God that you get a "pistonhead" on the day you need to deal with a 7. Damn, when I look back at all of the cars , registrations ,etc. etc ...that I have dealtmwith over the years as I bother to be street legal, and the hoops ,jumps and nasty ass attitude of the people at these places ( that we pay for), brrrrr...., makes me angry. :) I once had an inspector try and fail me as I had "3 wipers, 2 is the law" he said on a 63 E Type a long time ago. Power to the people:hurray:
