  1. You think $75 K is enough?
  2. I was not really trying to make any point, the situation is just confusing to me(and I am sure many others). The issues I brought up were with regard to Aloskies points about the seperation of engine and car by the dealer/maker when this seems not always to be so. I understand there can be problems (varying from state to state ) with the registration of a "new" 7,however I do not think these are always registered as kit cars. Then too, it seems some makers/dealers offer many diferent permetations and optional levels of assembly and finish, engine choices ,etc etc.
  3. Yet Westfield offers engines and totally assembled cars ready to drive off in: http://www.flyinmiata.com/westfield/turn-key.php
  4. What is the constant tie to Ford engines and drivelines with Caterham when there are so many others that offer so much more hp proven reliability and availabilty of parts etc. for so much less money , is it size and fit, tradition, history, profits or what? I understand that it is a somewhat common engine in base form , but so are many others, and to be frank they have to be as good, if not better than being sheperded via the Ford-Caterham route. I can only guess that of all the engine options used and offerd by Caterham UK over the years that this is one of the few that is common for the UK market and still a viable option for them to offer in the USA as it is one they are familiar with.
  5. Performance Bikers like 7,s and I like them...
  6. Yeah, its a great way to meet ppl, hard to be a hermit in a 7.
  7. whats the ebay add then?
  8. $2500 on shocks on a 99 7 ? I must be out of touch.
  9. Alask, I understand your points and respect your legal observations, however I stand by my feelings. David
  10. Motor bike riders that fellow "car drivers". It's very odd that some of the best drives ( i.e.: bored , and if the sun shines why not go out) I have had on the PCH 101 have been with super bikes that I have met on the run by chance.Had a good one yesterday with a Suzuk R1000i owner, ended up having clams ,beer and talking about cars, bikes and divorces and the meaning of life..., (thats a great night out for me). A while ago I thought it was funny when the owner of a fast bike said " I heard you coming, then saw you pass and had to see close up, I was thinking Grand Dad in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang out for a stroll then you took off".lol. It was that day that I realised that as fast as this car is on the curves, and I was pushing, these bikes are just a bit quick on the straights, just a bit, lol.(in the blink , and I mean blink of an eye, he went from my rear view mirror to 30 yards ahead). http://www.suzukicycles.com/Product%20Lines/Cycles/Products/GSX-R1000/2009/GSXR1000.aspx?category=sportbike
  11. Skip, The exact same point that I raised earlier, how do you go from @100 hp to @260hp without detailing it? I find Caterham USA confusing to say the least,it is vague; the old web site for the old Rocky site has way more info.It would be nice to see at least some more info partic at the prices they are asking. So will they assemble a complete car with engine if you are willing to pay? Is a Caterham classed as a kit car in the USA? Is Caterham USA now the main dealer with distributors across the USA, I notice a lot of the old outlets are gone. Regards David PS. The odd thing is, I guess, that any one in the kit car biz could set up a "seperate company" to buy then re-sell an engine." to buy then re-sell an engine.

Do not see many of these stateside. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230329439407&viewitem=
  13. I mean if the idea is to stop breakage via rock chips then this has to be the way to go, plus you can use them on your seven iron. ( I think I would cut the top pull tab off tho). BTW what tyres are on there?
  14. JT, so do you send them your basic engine and they mod it to suit or do they just send you bolt ons for you to do yourself,I see on the site they do not mention what is included to get that level of performance, just call it "installation parts and ancillaries".
  15. Sean, I agree with that, however, if you look back the earlier posts were to do with 250 hp plus with reference to Caterhams via Cat USA/Cosworth. I am sure that a basic 130 hp low mile Duratec off a modern Ford could be found at a local wreck yard for @1K. I also think that the Caterham USA engine costs are way high across the board, (I guess there are other companies tuning this engine,I wonder what they charge) To be frank, if I was doing this over again myself I think I would def go Japanese on engine and trans. Note: it is common knowledge that Mazda used the original Lotus Elan as a model for the Miata right down to the sound of the exhaust, but the engine even looks like ringer for the Lotus twin cam too,and I have not heard a bad thing about that engine(or come to that any other Japanese engine). In an even Tbox56, Dick Brink is as capable of answering your questions as well as anybody, and a knowledgeable7 enthusiast . PS, you say you would not mind taking on the bike engine even tho you would be swimming alone, I applaude you sir,but I myself would not go that route.

  17. Tom I was thinking that myself. I know the prices are lowest on the Xflow, then the Zetec with the Duratec thru the roof.
  18. Kyle, The id plate he shows riveted on that car is off a 1962 Ford Anglia(105E) (export model=106E) probably for the Canadian market.
  19. Hi Skip, I had no idea that you had that Mazda set up, I had no idea that would fit; was it straight forward?Looks very good and reliable too no doubt
  20. Re Westfield, Yeah I read that too, sounds like a bit more than new oil in the box is needed, then the carb pro-tune?Odd thing is why would a car dealer have a clothes retailer sell a car for him and why not have those "minor" faults fixed before selling, particularly if you are in the trade.
  21. Very cool collection.
  22. they may have heard this is the only car you do not have in your stable, so u r being stalked. PS, can you post a pic of the moggy.

    Not too shabby

Well you can spend close to that to ship in the USA coast to coast. I guess the main problems are paper work and driving a right hooker.
  24. Drew thats a huge drop on the floors (2 and 3/4 inches right), how did you do that?
