  1. Thanks for the input guys, The whole engine and driveline (incl LSD, I think its Quaife) was replaced /reconed in 2002 by a good VA race shop and has less than 2 K on it. the clunk is in all gears but more noticeable at low speeds, guess cuz I can hear more. To be honest there has always been a bit of a clunk, but today I really noticed it as I was in stop start traffic partic at around 20mph then backing off the accel and speeding up again. So if you guys put your car in gear and rock it do you get that "metallic thunk" ? Regards DB PS, this is the old live axle style no IRS sadly.
  2. Just drove the car hard for 80 miles and noticed a clunk coming from rear whilst driving as accelerator is pushed then backed off(patic at lower speeds around town, I also noticed I can get the same clunk by putting car in gear in garage and rocking back and forth, this is on a 1984 Caterham Xflow with live (Ital, Triumph) rear end with a LSD. Any ideas where I should start to look ? Anyone notice their car does the same in gear whilst rocking, I know there is always going to be some play and noise but this is loud. Thanks David
  3. Tip, click on to full screen mode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhnTMxHOWlY
  4. " I will not be:... briefed, de-briefed,filed, indexed or numbered" did I get it right? RIP Pat
  5. I drive at night all the time, fun actually, and cold, lol. But always fun.

  7. Not just at night but often needed in the daytime here, plus I drive the PCH and you need all the light you can get, not too many street lamps out here, lol.
  8. I agree , Dick Brink should know, he even found parts for my Caterham that were not available anywhere else, nice guy too.
  9. Thanks Gary ( et al) , Seems like the best way so far without having a beam reading machine. I wonder why these machines are not more common. Thanks everyone for the input, to what I think is something everyone should be more aware of, there is nothing worse than badly positioned lights both for the driver and oncoming vehicles. David
  10. Lol, that is a lot of work.
  11. I always liked James Dean's nick for his car : "Lil Bastard" of course he did die in the car, it was a Porche, and even the salvaged parts were said to be cursed... but.... "LILBSTD" kinda fits. I also saw : 2FNQWK on a ZO6 a while ago.
  12. Any tips ? I Know there are the old "shine on a garage door with cardboard markers" fix, or some shops (and not that many any more evidently, in this area anyways) have the pro alignment tool; but... does anybody have a method to get a reasonable balance at home? Thanks DB
  13. I am sure the sideways periscope design works well , and God knows, side and center rear view is a problem with this car,; however, it does look a bit fugly . Then again, one of the recent "7" road tests described the car as looking like " the offspring of an Aardvak and and electric toaster", so maybe it will fit right in with time. But on a serious note, for what you gain in rear vision do you not loose of front due to the size and position ?
  14. woops, see below.
  15. Spend $15.00 on a good broom. Then spend the rest on yourself; in the immortal words of George Best : "I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered".
  16. I agree with the lifting problems on epoxy floors, has happened to me twice regardless of application. I now use a cheap polyurethane concrete seal and stain, it looks good, is easy to touch up, and for me lasts longer than expoxy at a fractuion of the price, it also tends to soak into the concrete more than the epoxy type which tends to sit on it. There are also one part epoxy seals too, which were ok; I just cannot justify spending more than a few hundred bucks on a garage floor on my budget.. Of course if you want to protect any floor seal from tire lift then why not just but 2 long strips of tile and drive on those to save the newly sealed floor.
  17. Thanks for the input guys, There is really no room for any nut or bolt head that I can feel back there, it is that tight. The sqweaks come from the wing/ welt /body not the coil, that does clear the body.
  18. Tom, I know that;) however it has the same whine and pitch that my ex used with me when I was in trouble.(it's like she is sitting on my shoulder when I get in the car. Gives me the shivers:cry: I guess I will just have to drive faster.
  19. Yeah welts are good, it looks like I may have to tap a thread in it and use a short bolt, it must be a common problem I imagine. Here is a pic I just took. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1823084403_Wing hole.JPG
  20. we have dif hole patterns, mine is 84 live axle, you do not have the top holes I have the prob with. Thanks
  21. Possibly, however, there is hardly any room at all due to the spring coil, I am guessing that the coils clipped the nuts and popped them.If you put your fingers back there it is VERY close.
  22. Ok, so from Ben at Caterham USA today. Caterham USA is re-setting it,s dealer net work(some go, some new, some old stay)web sites for RMMS and CatUSAQ will be updated soon to show this,it is however taking them longer than expected to do these changes, but they intend to be around for some time to come. Rocky Sports is not dealing in Caterham anymore,(stiill dealing in sports cars and Formula Ford stuff tho) All calls for cars or parts should go to Caterham USA tel 303 765 0247. Cat USAsite: http://www.uscaterham.com/ It is ok to use the parts price list at RMMS in the meantime. Old Rocky web site with parts list: http://www.rmsci.com/ He also stated that as their parts prices were pegged at last up date at $1.75 to the pound and it went as high as $2.00 this summer which hurt them, they intend to stay at current prices across the board while rates hover around the $1.50 level. Hope this helps David
  23. Thanks Tom, I do not see on my car how there is room for any kind of back nut on the uppermost hole due to lack of clrearane with the spring . Regards DB
