Yeah that's what I would think.

Well, I have to admit they are an aquired taste, but this car seems like a very nice example. I had a 63 Vette and felt the same way about the next generation from 68 on, yet I had a friend that bought a 68 and loved the car, guess it's horses for courses. One point I need to ask, as these cars are pretty thin on the ground and I have never come across one: do they drive as well as the rest, I am guessing so? I wonder if they will ever have their day in the sun ?

You know, as you read the replies it makes me see that the options and variants and specs are just as odd and quirky as the owners.

I agree with what has already been said. "Caterham" is very expensive for what it is, even more so in the USA from what I see;however the resale prices tend to be higher(due to this) and this is what I own. The parts problem in the USA can get old real fast with Caterham due to shipping costs , low inventory, few dealers, exchange rates etc etc.Probably no better or worse than the competion tho. "Superformance" no longer make the S1 and I know the parts available are sketchy ( almost bought one last year). Is Birkin still sold in the USA, I am not sure. There is Westfield, Stalker and quite a few others too. I think a lot depends on the funds you have to spend on what is really a 4 wheeled motor bike, that looks like the offspring between Aardvark and an electric toaster. I had a Cobra replica (22years ago) and it NEVER gave me the rush I get from a 7.(Frankly it was old and crude imoh) Also the points raised about being able to locate parts locally is a big plus too. I honestly take my hat off to Locost builders, way beyond my skills and patience. In any event I think the best thing to do is Google and search and Craigs and see what is available , these cars tend to be scattered. One point that is often raised is the time money and effort to get the cars set up right and legally registered in the US, I myself would go the way of buying someone elses blood, sweat and tears. Good Luck PS These cars really are like nothing else and attract so much attention it can get old explaining what it is, but it is a happy feel good car, that makes every one smile. PPS (if you do buy one, and you ever get down or sad, as we all do, force your self to take it out, you will feel better, ....well till you have to pay the speeding ticket anyway, lol) Cheers David Bowes :yesnod:

So just apply the same rules to all. How many rules and regulations do we need by the way ? Oh, I see now, I have studied "New Rule Number 6" Oh Grand Master.

Should this not be listed under the General Tech section; I see you are very quick to edit and move any listings not of your own or your "friends".

Speeding Tickets ...and what cops say...your best story

Thanks for the kind words. So I am just going to pay the damned thing but on the back of the ticket are a few options , guilty or no contest, or not guilty;the way I read it no contest lets you plead your case in a letter with the judge having the option to lower or raise your fine as he sees fit, like rolling the dice... whereas if I plea guilty it is fixed at the Base Fine amount...am I getting that right? -
if you are lucky....lol

Speeding Tickets ...and what cops say...your best story

Yeah I know that spot too. I think what really burns me is the fact that the whole deal with speed enforcement and limits were always justified as being in the name of safety as "speed kills" when in fact most of us drive at speeds that are safe and as the conditions allow, ie we regulate ourselves, therefore it would make sense that speed traps are positioned at accident black spots where there is a known and proven danger of accidents via speeding but sadly I think we all know this is far from the truth; seems that speed traps are set up where the conditions are indusive to driving quicker than a posted limit and that the ticket is just a source of revenue. One would also believe with such high levels of enforcement (coupled with often ludicrously low speed limits) in the USA that the levels of deaths and accidents would be amongst the worlds lowest instead of one of the highest. I have driven in many countries and I have to say that the general level of driving in the states is very poor with driver skills, ability and common courtesy lacking. Maybe if the lawmakers saw fit to have a yearly safety inspection on cars over 3 years old for basic road worthyness, eg, lights, brakes, steering, tires etc instead of being obsessed with emmissions; perhaps if the drivers test spent a lot more time with a driver on the road instead of concentrating on the indoor skill of identifying the diference between obscure and confusing road signs, ah well just my ramblings. I think as time moves on the states will see a massive increase in the use of cameras as they give an even greater return on the $$ , Geiko has been donating new cameras to the city of Phoenix (amongst others) for a while, in the name of road safety and with the backing of MADD, seems like they might have vested interests to benefit themselves too. Plus, sadly the camera has no passion for cars and zero discretion. On a lighter note I saw a car with the buper sticker D.A.M.M. drunks against mad mothers...lol, I don't think I would have the balls to drive around with that one on the back of my car. -

Speeding Tickets ...and what cops say...your best story

One point that always concerned me... My hit was on radar (in car I assume) , but here is the rub... what is there to prove, apart from the testimony of the police officer, that the figure he claims is actually true, I am not talking about speed detection device error but just a cop telling lies or exagerating. You would think in this day that there would be some kind of verification and proof of that ...or am I missing something ? -

Can you mail me your oxy tank and disabled sticker?? I think you did well. I do not have to appear in court unless I contest it ,but there are a load of options on the ticket from not guilty to no contest to guilty etc,I guess your main point is, if you choose to appear, not to argue what happened but rather the effect of financial burden and hardship, I think it worked for you as you have true harrdships; myself... well , I think I would be just pissing in the wind. Regards & thanks Skip -
So, my luck finally ran out last night, what was I thinking, well I did not think I was going that fast, I think the more used to a 7 you become you start to get comfortable with the car and not realise just how fast you are really going, and no that was not my plea, lol. Deserted long straight road, good conditions, rural back road but still within Gearhart city limits with a blanket speed of 25 mph and" Flash, Flash %@#$ing Flash", (is there any worse feeling in the world). So, I think in the past when I managed to worm my way out it was probably due to a human submisive thing of grovelling and also looking at a cop in the kneecaps while sitting in the car can only be a good thing right, partic if you had a pint, lol. Well, this Plod was all biz, my typical flippant answer to... "Do you know how fast you were going" has always been..."I have no idea, it's a struggle to see a black 2 inch speedo with a match bulb for light during the day let alone at night", then we talk about the car and I live to drive another day. Well , not last night,, 51mph in a 25 = $242.00. By the way, whats the deal with insurance companies in the USA, do they all raise your premiums for speeding tickets? I think when I get gear shift warning lights I need to get speed warning lights (is there such a thing), it really is hard to keep tabs on the stock speedo tho.

I have an 84 long cock pit model, which with my little legs I have to fit blocks behind the seat back to reach the pedals.Anybody know the story on the "long cockpits"... like where did the length come from? I have to say though, this car of yours looks like it is a lot more liveable (relative in a 7 I know) than the stock, do they still make this model ,I see no listing for it on Caterham USA. Oddly enough for a car that is bigger all around , it seems to be enhanced in looks by it's size and not bloated, in any event it really is a great looking car, best of luck with it. PS .what does "SV" stand for......Series 5 or Super Volume.

Yeah I will check those out too. Odd thing is it really only gets noticeable after a hard drive when everything is hot, I was wondering is the oil thinning in the dif with heat could do that and maybe putting in a heavier oil/ additive may help. By the way what do you guys recco for dif/axle oil in a 7? Also, what is good in the Ford Escort GT 4 speed box with CR, funnily enough that gets balky when hot too. A friend swears by MGC (Multi Gear Concentrate) an additive to quieten metal to metal noise and stop leaks, it can be used on noisy power steering pumps too . By the way are these Ital axles renowned for drips and leaks? thanks David

Thanks for that, do you hear a clunk??

Thanks all, I will.
