I have been thinking that once I get a full restoration on our Seven I would have a spare BMC engine and transmission ready to go into something like an XI. Money and opportunity wise that will have to slot in behind an Elite. As was said above, I guy can dream.
  2. I signed up for LOG 28 early last week www.indylotus.com/log28.swf look under the "Application" heading for the registration frorm. It looks to be another great event. I have signed up for the auto-x which should be a quite the experience and am expecting to post the Slowest Time Of Day. I am particularly looking forward to: * Visiting friends * Seeing the cars * Auto-x without having work the course * Driving around the Indi track * Showing off our Seven * Driving the street with a bunch of race cars on the way from the staging concourse to the Indi track. I don't think it will be as much fun as driving the old Watkins Glen course but it will be close. * The Indy museum The hotel rooms are filling up fast. Please consider attending LOG 28 and bringing your Se7en. My wife and I are hooked after our first LOG, LOG XII back in 1992. javascript:insertsmiley(':jonautox: ','/aspnetForum/images/emoticons/boxologist.gif') Dean G

There have been a few Westfield XI's that have attended LOG and they all looked good. There will probably be one at this years LOG. The owner of one has been posting on Lotus Talk. He may be runing the auto-x.
  4. I keep toying with the idea of a titanium honeycomb and carbon fiber Se7en body/frame done in an origami style. This looks interesting.
  5. I was able to get my first and so far onlya ride in an Elite at LOG 27. It was in the yellow car. Sweet. A Type 14 Elite may be our next hobby car. My list of fantasy next cars, some very much a fantasy are: Lotus Type 14 Elite Lotus Type 51 Ferrari Daytona Westfield 11 Ferrari Mondial Healy Bug Eye Sprite Triumph TR250 some are more a fantasy than others.

    oooooops!

"He doesn't know this corner; does he?"
  7. I assume you use the large red pipe wrench in your picture on the 7???
  8. I had a brand new Novi 350 at ToD. It was very helpful as I am directionally challanged. I would like it to have more volume, initilize more quickly and record the track that you actully take. I found that I do not look at the display very often, I let the spoken directions guide me. It would be tough to hear in the 7. In wet weather I would bring a plastic bag and a twist tie for watter profing the unit.
  9. Do any of you folks with wide tires find that you are bogging the engine?
  10. It looks like has a very nice 7 and that it was one of the funkey origional hard top versions. He can't be a bad guy he seems to enjoy Arches NP, David Bowie, ... It appears that he has met Mike Ostrov. You can run but you can not hide. Ahaa, the joy's of Google!
  11. That Datsun engined 7 gets around! I've seen it at the Dragon, and possibly 2 LOGs.
  12. A clarification, this “club” is not associated with USA7s in any way. I posted to this site since I am a member of USA7s and I believe that the people reading the posts may be interested.
  13. First Event SEVA Lotus Invades Scotland! October 27 Meet in the parking lot of Yorktown Battlefield National Park for a noon departure to cruise the beautiful, if slow, Colonial Parkway. Then we will take a free ferry ride on the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry. From there we will take a short ride into Surry for a leasurly lunch at the Surry House. Upon finishing lunch we will return to Yorktown and roll through the restored waterfront before heading home. More information
  14. I want to form a club in South East Virginia. My intention is to have a general Lotus / Se7en club serving the general Tidewater / SE Virginia / Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Richmond area and all parts in-between. The weather is still nice; it is not too late to have a first event. Anyone interested they can can use this forum, or contact me personally. I will be using the email address SEVA_Lotus@cos.net for this endevor/ The very basic "club" site is http://members.cox.net/seva_lotus/ Is anyone interested? Dean Giacopassi
  15. I guess the Focus was put there so the Ariel could smoke something. The 211 looked pretty good. Both the 211 and the Caterham had some wet conditions.
  16. I don't know what happened to this area but the reference to the "Lotus Rendezvous 2007" http://www.lotusowners.com/Lotus%20Rendezvous.htm This event is promisses to be a good one. It's not too late to sign up. Joe Popielarczyk and long time 7 nut Tony Vacarro are the coordinators. Work pressures keep me from attending. I wish I could go. There are some truly memorable sites that will be visited. If you haven't been to Niagara Falls, Watkins Glen or the Corning museum you have missed some world class sights.
  17. My 2 cents. The best cars I have driven for steering feel, that is how wiggling the wheel feels vs how the car responds including the feedback are the Elise followed by the early Elan. The Elise wins out because it is linear, percise, accurate, has a nice ration and gives good feedback. The high level of grip and the stability of the car also make the stearing feel good. I gather that when ride and handling engineers describe steering feel they do not include grip or stability as factors. Other cars that I have driven that might get mentioned for great fealing steering that I don't believe deserve the lable are the Lotus M100, late 80's 911's, early 90's Corvette's, new BMW 3, 5, 6, 7 series and Z4's. As an aside, the Z4 is a huge disappointment being ugly & slow as well as having poor feel and intrusive driver "aids". The best inexpensive car for steering feel that I have driven is the Ford Focus which is rumored to have been tweeked by Lotus. Unfortunately I have not been able to drive a 7 although if my engine ever gets back togeather I plan on fixing that omission.

    Eurofest

Is anyone planning on attending the 2007 Euro Auto Festival in South Carolina (at the BMW plant) over October 19, 20, and 21, with the Show Day being Saturday, October 20? We attended in 2005 and had a great time even though there were a total of 3 Lotus in attendance. We are thinking of going again. Their web site http://euroautofestival.com is a bit lame and doesn't do justice to the event.
  19. There is a fair possibility that the Lotus Owners Gathering 29 (2009) will be held in Birmingham AL in conjunction with the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, ... The proposal was presented at LOG 27 in Snowmass CO just a bit over a week ago. It is possible USA7s could hook up and share in the fun. Certainly the se7en enthusiasts will be welcome and there will be plenty to do: motorcycle/automotive museum, car show, vintage race, auto-X, driving clinics, and track day. There is already talk of some 7’s coming from England to participate.
  20. There is an upcomming tour scheduled for Sept. 27-30 2007 that is listed on Tony V's site www.lotusowners.com Look for the LOTUS RENDEZVOUS 2007 link. It looks like an event that should appeal to many 7 drivers. A brief excerpt from the web site - My name is Joe Popielarczyk, and I am the vice president of the Lotus Owners Of New York (LOONY). Along with Tony Vacarro, I am setting up the first annual, “ North East Lotus Rendezvous 1,” September 27 th-30th, 2007. I would like to invite ALL Lotus fanatics to join us for a fantastic 4 day event. I don't think we will make this event due to my work schedule but there is a chance Claudia and I will pop in with our M100. Dean G.
  21. Sorry we missed this. We were pressed for time to get back to VA from LOG. I read a notice about the show and sactually saw a sign pointing to the show! We were driving the M100. Dean G
  22. We stoped in Durango in September 2004 while driving the Lotus Elan (M100) cross country. It is one of those magical small cities that have all but dissapeard from the landscape. There are some good driving roads in that area. I would like to spend some more time there.
  23. There are still track day spots open. Here is your chance to see if you can match Emerson Fittipaldi's lap times. Lets see, amateur in a Se7en vs. Emo in a Lotus 72 F1 carjavascript:insertsmiley:eek:
  24. On the down side, Killboy did have and post a few pictures of se7ens over the double yellow line. One picture even merited a caption about not getting it. I'll admit to overcooking one corner in the pickup truck. Lets be careful out there.
  25. If you drive rt-58 watch out for Emporia. It is probably the most active speed trap in Virginia. Expect to see speed traps at any hour of the day or night. Several police working toghther as a anti-speeding team is a common.
