  1. I still think an extra $3 per gallon federal fuel tax would take care of a lot of our problems (e.g., Hummers would only be driven by rich A-holes rather than by middle class A-holes).
  2. May 19th is my wife's birthday. I'll have to tell her she shares the day with ACBC & S1Steve.
  3. Maybe MB will drive Tesla into bankruptcy too.
  4. Long pants - protection from transmission tunnel heat & exhaust burns; Long sleeve shirt - protection from sun & road debris; Earplugs; Hat with keeper cord and/or Buff - the brim acts as sun shield and the buff keeps wind buffeting from ears; Cheap sun glasses - my wife calls them old mans sunglasses, I prefer to think of them as emulating Enzo Ferrari!
  5. 38 A pretty pathetic number.
  6. 2 for me but they total maybe 50 miles. I need to do something about that.
  7. I tried LEDs a few years ago on a car where it was a several hour job to change a side marker light. I didn't like the level of light output and were larger than what they replaced. I haven't tried LEDs since. What's changed?
  8. Bummer dude. Get well soon.
  9. I've been working on our 7 getting it ready for LOG. The windshield wipers now work and there are new bushings on the sway bar. I took another ride today in to test the car and had a couple of firsts. First time a policeman waved at me and first time over 70 mph. 70 seems to be about the top speed of the car. It is a bit darty at highway speeds. A deadline is a great motivator.
  10. See the famous picture of the Seven in competition at Pikes Peak. Where did this Seven go? http://www.ppihc.com/detail.aspx?categoryid=801&detailid=ppih0496&mediatype=1&photomode=3&returnurl=%2fgallery.aspx%3fcategoryid%3d801%26photomode%3d3%26tabid%3d22
  11. Thanks. I'm getting ready for LOG. The mechanical should be complete today. The rest of the week is for polishing... = = = = = Paint is for Wimps = = = = =
  12. For sanding paint get a "rubber" or foam sanding block. It helps eliminate uneven pressure caused by your fingers on flat and gently curved surfaces. Also put a spot or two dish detergent in the water to keep the paper from loading up.
  13. A former room mate of mine was a diesel mechanic, a very good mechanic by the way. One day he wandered into the garage while I was working on my Elan. After watching for a bit he said "You don't even know which end of a screwdriver to pound on." To which I replied "I certainly do". He retorted "Which one?" I came back with "It depends." He went back into the house to watch TV.
  14. For me it is fun to feel the dynamics of the car and to push it a bit. Years ago I moved from a 1977 MGB to a 1991 Lotus Elan (M100) as a daily driver. The M100 was much more comfortable and quicker in all respects. It wasn't as much fun on the commute home. My favorite 35 mph corner suddenly became a boor at 45.
  15. My ideal hot rod would be a 32 Ford style hot rod built in the classic style. It would have a Jag straight 6 with side draft Webbers painted white with polished aluminum accessories. 5 speed manual transmission. Simple interior. It wouldn't be fast. It would be a cruiser for the Saturday night show and shines.
  16. I like the color. It has a classic look. I hope to be able to take a better look at the diffuser at LOG. The enclosed bottom of a Se7en really calls out for one. The owner of a local shop specializing in Minis often refers to rattle can restorations. The fact is that after a spritz of paint or two he can make a car look much better.
  17. So tell us a little about the car.
  18. How about a part number. I like to polish the car when I get good results. The first polish took me days. Maybe 20 hours on the nose alone. I can't seem to get the haze out of the finish. It's driving me nuts.
  19. Took the Seven out for a shake down cruise. It seemed odd but the hot rod (think T-bucket and 32 Ford) guys always waved. Normally they don't seem to acknowledge English sports cars.

    LOG 29

There will be more than a few people going to the Tail of the Dragon after LOG. The coordination appears to be centered on LotusTalk http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f220/tail-dragon-after-log-29-june-1-2-a-71601/

    Pirate facts

When the English took the head Edward Teach (Blackbeard) it was proudly displayed at Hampton point in Virginia. It always seemed odd to sail by that spot. A historical footnote, Blackbeard was protected by the Governor of North Carolina. Odd how the pirate business hasn't changed all that much.
  22. My right foot is dummer that a rock. I only listen to advise from my left foot.

    LOG 29

Our series 1 doesn't seem to have had much of an interior. I covered the dash with red vinyl that matches the seats. I don't see any evidence of any other interior trim. At one time Keith sold lamiplate. Give him a call he is a good guy and a Lotus nut.
