I am confused. Those in the for sale list that I describe just above the link to the original ad as Caterham are in fact Caterham, whether it be owner-built kit or dealer built kit. Those that are not Caterham are described with the appropriate labels - Westfield, Stalker, replica, etc. It’s ok having the various Seven brands plus Lotus on this one forum as the originators of this forum saw its purpose as being Inclusive of all sevens - originals and replicas. Can you give me an example in that list of something called a Caterham that is not a Caterham in your mind? As for the CSR I think you need to price what a new one is to evaluate the relative price. Given how much Caterham prices have dropped over the last two years (at least in the US) I think you may be surprised what a brand new one may cost plus be customized to your exact spec. Then again there is a lengthy wait list for a new kit build so the CSR offers immediate gratification if you want something now. The CSR is a remarkable car with its IRS. It will out handle a regular de dion Caterham and is incredibly quick point to point. It feels like a big car to drive because of the suspension sophistication. I love mine. It is very tricky on the limit with the 15 inch wheels on it but if you are doing a lot of track work then I believe it needs the modifications to take a 13 inch wheel. I have never driven the CSR200 (I have a 275) but I have driven enough Caterham’s over the years to think it would be a perfect touring package. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I had to read this a few times to work out your meaning. I know their Hayabusa is their signature car but could you buy a regular Duratec kit through them and build yourself? Not that I have ever found. You can get automatic notification emails for private messages, administrators or visitors to your profile but seemingly not specific threads (or countries within that thread). If you want a seriously want a Caterham then you will want to put the effort in to know them before you buy. They are not your regular car and the more you know will help your ownership experience. BTW - did you find Terry's Caterham CSR200 in AB for sale yet?

For the record I will usually update the Ebay/etc thread in the for sale forum each Sunday morning. Sometimes infrequently it will be a saturday update if I am travelling Sunday. There are about 4-6 weekends a year when I do get to update because I am doing another 40,000 mile trip round the world. The areas I have searchbot do his deed are: Ebay Craigslist Hemmings Classiccars.com VRG Wirewheel Bringatrailer racecars.com The search terms are Caterham, Westfield, Stalker, Ultralite, Locost, Lotus 7, Lotus Seven, and Birkin There are 3 sellers I exclude for reasons that they have a reputation that i do not want to associate with. I also exclude dealers on the basis that they are quite capable of doing their own marketing - try the manufacturer directly - Caterham USA, Birkin USA or Manik (Westfield) or Brunton (Stalker) Individual sellers who list their own ad on the forum will only appear in my list if they advertize on one of the listed sites. Its not perfect and does miss some ads but there is a pretty good range each week. Now if you want a 620R then I have only seen one of those come up for sale ever in the US and Matt bought it. I think you have to order that through a dealer as used ones are going to be few and far between. There is a Canadian equivalent to Craigslist called Kikiji or something like that. You could run your own searches on that site.

Ummmm no...not correct. We don't have to order booze - you do. First night at Clubhouse has a bar where you purchase what you want. The subsequent nights at Hotel Charlesworth and Andreas are BYOB [as mentioned in the event notes] so I suggest you pick some up on the way and keep it chilled in your room fridge. I will also note that Hotel Charlesworth is located in the dry town of Fortescue so the closest place to purchase if you forget will be about 15-20 minutes away back in Millville. So a friendly heads up to remind people of this fact! The trophies were done last month. Things were changed this year. Some people will like them. Some people will not like them. One person is absolutely going to hate me.

Hold on, I missed something here. You bought Mike G's Caterham? What did he replace it with? Or did he downgrade back to a Porsche? Definitely get the instruction if you are going to try out HPDE. It keeps you safe and makes you a more skilled driver. Thats why Shane went 'wrong'.

For those who have not used one before then: 1) Click through this video into youtube itself. 2) Play the video 3) move the camera around by (a) the arrows top left, or (b) clicking your mouse on the video playing and dragging to look behind, up, sides or down If you move the camera to point down slightly you will see I overlaid a track map on the passenger seat below the speed. That is a really special find. I will inject a note of caution to the above estimate. A pristine 1990s Caterham with a BDR is asking $37k at Wirewheel - maybe $34k without dealer premium. Lots of photos to compare this against. However, - You dont know what spec this BD engine is. Is it BDR? BDG? BDD? The hp can vary greatly and higher hp is higher dollars. I suspect it is BDR just from the ancilliaries but the owner will likely know. - You dont know what the motor is like internally - does it need a rebuild? Same goes for gearbox and diff. - Its been sitting some time so everything has dried out and gone hard and in some cases cracked - radiator hoses, bushings, gas lines, brake lines, tires, etc. Cars take a long time to bring back from sitting doing nothing and these parts add up quickly...ask me how I know! - Then it is pretty messy - you will want to take bits apart and give it a good clean up - lots of work for you or expensive mechanics - Then there are unknowns - what exactly is the oil pump issue? Did it starve the bearings before it needed modification? A clue is in the headlights - look at the tape. Did he have a problem with oil pressure on track? I bet he did. BD engine oil pumps are not cheap. BD engine rebuilds are even more expensive. All this takes parts, effort, sweat, labor. I don't want to scare you but I do want you to go in on this eyes open. This is definitely a worthwhile project with a very desirable seven that is titled. With the uncertainties from above, I would give a range of $20k to $30k and I am leaning at the lower half of that range based on the limited photos. That range is huge and could easily be wrong - it needs to be narrowed with answers to the above questions. The priority to make a deal happen: 1) Engage the owner on the car - he has to be moved towards selling and that means you are helping him to emotionally release from a car. You have to persuade the owner to give up a failed dream - his failure. 2) At the same time you have to try to get answers on the open questions - this firms up your view of the price to be offered. IF in doubt you go low in bid. 3) Then you have to persuade him to release it at a price that makes sense to him emotionally and to you rationally/economically. Thats done by knowing the market for complete cars and what is required to get the car back to condition where it equals that value. The seller will not have done that homework since he will be thinking emotionally. This process can be lengthy and take hours or months but thats how barn finds happen - its just that some sellers get to the right outcome quicker than others. Good luck!!!!

The trophies for the awards night are coming along nicely. So far we have: Golden Skidmarks Award for the tire tracks left on the track or grass. This may be challenging since Simon, Jeff and myself have had lots of practice on these two circuits plus Shane, Roman and Mike are attending. Debris Award for the bad person who brings rocks, cones, obstacles, etc onto the track - its a painted rock "I May Be Faster Than the Stig" Award for the best driver - this is a statue of the Stig. The Oscar Statue for "Best Directions in a Moving Vehicle". Yes this is for those that deliver point bys with panache, style, grace and above all quickly The "Honey I Broke it Again"Award replaces the former Mechanical Sympathy award but still rewards those participants with the most bone headed mechanical moment of the event The Polisher Award is a particularly vile award that Steve automatically wins but I think we have a few promising contenders this year. And the new award....ta da!.... The Golden Plunger Award. Intended to recognize the one that had the biggest brown seat moment, it is of course a gold painted plunger on a plinth with a roll of TP (just in case). And a new special award that needs to remain secret for now. Needless to say it will be very special and the laughter will probably see us kicked out of Andreas Trattoria. As we are running Thunderbolt circuit on the Wednesday, I feel that there are many prime opportunities for landscaping and gardening at Turn 2, 4, and most of all the entry to the Devil, the most radical decreasing radius turn of any track in America.
