  1. I remember that being for sale in the weekly classifieds list. It was always described as a replica Lotus 7. No idea beyond that.
  2. Week Beginning April 7, 2024 USA7s Classified Ads of Se7ens for Sale https://usa7s.net/ips/forum/26-cars-for-sale/ USA7s has a great selection of kits and cars and projects for sale. 3. I got a text from Bruce today - this weekend is a big race event in the Caterham series he runs. He will be back to normal schedule next week.
  4. Sadly he never returned my calls. He was one of the rebuild options I called. The cause was not over rev. Most likely it is oil flow issues because the engine had piston squirters. Oil seemed to not be dropping to the bottom end. There was enough oil in the system so it seems it was a oil pump flow design problem which is yet to be fully understood. Probably need an additional low pressure pump somewhere.
  5. Welcome to USA7s @Tomm The seller has not visited USA7s since July 31, 2019. I think the answer I take from that is that this car is no longer for sale and you likely will not get an answer from this individual. Have you seen this more recent ad?
  6. Ok...show us photos of the fur ball!
  7. Yes its there at my garage right now on the lift - no engine in it. No chance of doing laps as it is missing a key component. The engine is in Redmond WA being rebuilt by a place that supports six race CSLs. Oh its expensive alright. I could rebuild many Duratecs or one Hasselgren Duratec for the same price. But no, I have an M30 3.5L block with the 2 valve head (the 1970s version of the M90). What you are thinking of is the M49 4 valve head (which is essentially a bolt on to the M30 block) which is $150K+ used assuming you can find one - unobtainium. Would love one of those but the head alone equals the value of the rest of the car! The M88 is the later road derivation of the M49 and is somewhat lot less inexpensive compared to the M49. Easier to find and rebuild too - in relative terms compared with an M49. I don't believe we got the M88 in the USA? Was that in the M635 and M5 here? Now, as USA7s has a member working at BMW, you would think he would be kind enough to casually drop an M49 in my letter box. But nooooo.... You may be right. Fake news. Fortunately, no belts in it from recollection. Not even bought. Same with the tires - wheels bought but no rubber purchased. Now if I had, then yes they would have expired. Luckily I have been making progress on other cars - Range Rover, Ferrari, Holden. About to kill what remains of my wallet on Holden parts. When are you going to apologize to the masses for being the sole inventor of Mr Clippy? Royalties must be excellent.....
  8. The other thing to keep in mind with going hydraulic is that you lose feel. I always find them to be somewhat dead feeling - very hard to feel your bite point.
  9. Thats one of the most common designations for a USA Caterham kit - it surfaces frequently. I had a 2003 Caterham with similar designation. The only other things I would expect to see on this Caterham are "3" for S3 or "O" for Other, both of which can also appear in comparable USA kits. An approach could be made to the Caterham historian to see what the archives have on this car but that just usually gives a build sheet with the same VIN. It mostly never explains why a VIN was coded the way it was by the factory.

  11. Have you tried the old time Caterham dealers like Rich at Kampena Motors or Josh at Rocky Mountain? The old parts stores sometimes have treasure hiding inside.
  12. Brake lights - usual issue is the pressure switch in the pedal box. Turn signals - usually dash toggle switch contact points Temp gauge - the Caerbont/Smiths gauges are not the best but even so check the sender unit first as they are well known for failing. Clicking sound - its should be the fuel pump. Should also hear a faint whine at idle. Think about getting a spare at this stage since you probably have the original one in the car.

  16. I slide my foot underneath the clutch pedal as a rest - not an option for you?
  17. Yes this is an "approved" method. Sometimes you can adjust the spacers in the pedal box to move them around on the spindle from which the pedals hang. Failing that then you bend the pedal arm. Even so I have always found it incredibly difficult to heel and toe in my CSR. Much less difficult in the 420R.

  20. I like suggestions made by The Dreamer above. There is a lot of fraud on Facebook and Craigslist and Ebay. I have done all types of purchases over the years. Flown to see cars and sealed the deal. Bought internationally sight unseen. Survived Bringatrailer and many other in person auctions. Been absolutely annihilated after two bottles of red wine (thanks to some unsavory bad influencing members of USA7s!) and won on Ebay only to find out what I did when I see the email the next afternoon, bleary eyed and hung over. So I have tried it all. There is a map of USA7s members if you look at the top menu - anyone there available to see the car for you? You can pay for inspection services that are local to check the car for you. People do that all the time on BAT so a quick google will be your friend for this. Pull the Carfax to see if there is a lien. If there is then you know you need to get good assurances on how the money will settle. I have used escrow.com to do car transactions. Money released once conditions met - i.e. car picked up or title given to someone you trust. https://www.escrow.com/
  21. Thanks for chiming in Josh. I thought that was your CSR? What cars is it up against? IMSA GT1 is like my BMW CSL race car?
  22. Welcome to USA7s! If you are planning to race then you need to find the right series/class in the group you want to join. That will dictate the spec of a car you will run. So SCCA will have you run with Miatas. The Caterham will be a standard S3 with a 2L Zetec engine at a very conservative tune. While there are a few drivers on here who have done incredibly well it is an uphill slog given the numbers of Miatas and the rules arguably favoring them. The SCCA site would have the rule spec for that Caterham. The Caterham racing in PNW is organized by Bruce Beachman of Beachman Racing. He would love more participation but it is obviously not located by you. They are running Caterham 420 race spec. So thats actually more like the old R300 spec (180-190hp Duratec) and not the same as the road spec 420R. He has other rules in place about gearbox - no sequential from memory but you would have to approach him directly. As for other groups that race in CA, I am unfamiliar with them. If it were NASA like we have out east, then a Caterham of any spec just picks its correct class and off you go. However, they are not that competitive under what I see in NASA. EMRA is the same. So that leaves me with a bit of a wild card option. There are a few on here who have 1980s (or possibly 90s) era Caterhams and are running in vintage racing with cross flow engines, T-9 gearboxes and clamshells. Not particularly correct but there you are. You could always go true vintage - few suitable cars available on the classifieds now. There is a great classic race scene in CA. You would be able to be competitive from day 1 and its probably cheaper and more fun than going SCCA. I am surprised that you are running with Porsche group as Caterhams (or any se7en for that matter) were banned from their groups in the NE and MA after a USA7s member had an oops at Lime Rock. Not really a fan of the group to be honest as I am used to seeing a lot of poor driving as some Wall Street type buys a mega buck car then predictably runs out of talent into a fence at NJMP on the third lap. Do you own a se7en now?
  23. Its been around as long as 10 years on some cars. Its definitely not new. Its also increasingly difficult to turn all the data sharing off. In some jurisdictions, law enforcement have access to the data. This GM case is just going to be another class action in the courts. Those OBDII dongles that companies like Progressive and GEICO pitch on the promise of saving more money should never be used unless you drive like Miss Daisy. In any city, you get lots of jerky driving simply because you have to manage the idiotic traffic around you. Thats just giving the insurer more excuse to charge more premium for an environment you cannot control. The data I get through work shows any metro driver will be charged more and rural drivers charged less premiums. Net effect is a decent uplift in money charged at the overall insurance company - good for revenue. Where this will end up over time is all your auto driving data will be shared with governments and insurers and relevant other parties and there will be no opt out. Enforcement of driving rules will end up being electronic in the end. Certain commercial vehicles are already there. May take 20 years to get there for the rest of us but the trend is clear now.
  24. Ebay was not live last weekend but the car is also listed here: https://www.motorclassiccorp.com/used-vehicle-1962-lotus-super-7-c-150/
