Not a 7. It's RCR's Atom knockoff.

You got me going, S1Steve, with the reserve price down to 12,000. It's actually been lowered to 21k from 22k according to Keith Shaw. I just returned from driving the car. The car has been neglected. Engine is weaping oil from several places. Oil catch tank nearly full (quart+). It does run decent and the Webers idle OK. All linkages are stiff or notchy. Brakes are ineffective. I see it just got bid 1 on Ebay with 2 hrs to go. For 20k+ buy a new one and use Miata power for slickness of controls and reliability. Back to the garage......... The Spyder is beatuful, by the way.

Andrew and I may a short appearance. More cars arrived after this photo was taken. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/869044876_2008-05-17-019.jpg The funny looking, little cars attracted considerable attention from the passersby.

The car's on the trailer ....... in the garage. So much for a Friday afternoon arrival. I don't think I would have had much fun there today. I just hope the mud isn't too deep tomorrow. We'll arrive about 9 am Sat.

Today is the last day to preregister at the discounted rate. I registered and booked a room in the '96 Econoline extended tow van for Friday night. Locost accomodations. Waiting to hear if my co-builder will attend. Just ordered a fuel pump from a fellow builder so my antique powerplant should be back in business.

Are you sure? Bridgestone disagrees in this first Google hit I opened: http://www.bridgestonetrucktires.com/us_eng/real/magazines/97V1Issue2/Doctor.asp See also: http://www.yokohamatire.com/pdf/tsb-MatchMounting-12803.pdf

That's true for Yokohama (red dots) and other brands. Some have yellow and red dots. Verify meaning with the manufacturer. (Tirerack may have answers.) The next step is to supervise the tire mounter to ensure compliance. Don't assume they know this practice.

Re: camping http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/import/gate.asp I don't remember seeing campers, but then I didn't cover every area of the grounds.

I agree that Extreme 4x4 is usually good and Musclecar does some chassis fabrication also. I think the hosts' personalities are important. And why am I so attracted to a woman who TIG welds three times better that I do so? I figure if I can learn one trick or tip in a 30 minute show, it was worthwhile. But then I have the TV on continuously while in the garage building my car. I often have the sound low/muted so I can hear the Sirius sat radio. I'm up to 800 hours on my current build so the TV time adds up. Fabrication shows are beneficial in another way. They give me confidence to attempt building a car when I see the chopper building bozos (American Chopper) making bikes that actually work. BTW: Stacy David and "Trucks" is on another network now. He is an experienced fabricator and knows how to do some metal shaping also.

Locost 7 Saturday, maybe Friday Jon Winterhalter Will trailer car. Took home a trunk full of purchases in the sedan last year.

I just bought Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels for $125 a piece in 15 x 7 with 40 mm offset and 10 mm offset. Purchased from GoodWinRacing. It's the same wheel (among others) offered on the Brammo Atoms. Weight is under 14 lbs each.

Mazda, Ignoring the geometry, the aesthetics leave a lot to be desired. Even with my locost blacksmithing tendencies, I wouldn't mount the rack external to the frame. The car's fabrication was admittedly hurried to make the Carlisle show. It was suspended, but far from complete. I think they pulled the uprights from the parts bin and Rubed up a rack mount. However, the builder said he was receiving deposits. I'm not slamming RCR. All of their other cars demonstrated highly skilled design/fabrication. I think we need a few more Atom competitors to bring their pricing down to reality. God bless competition in the market place.

This is what it looked like at Carlisle this year. Let's say it was half-baked. Check the location of the steering rack. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1311513905_RCR-GT-1.jpg This is my "Safe" Atom with rollover protection, lights, windshield (to be), and wipers at $5800 in materials (my labor not included): http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1690096545_2007-12-27-1.jpg

You can buy any Hella lighting from these guys: http://www.rallylights.com/hella/ff1000.asp Be aware that most Hella lights meet ECE standards: fewer meet SAE (DOT) standards. It may not matter in your state or if they are auxiliary lamps. HID lights...bright they are; cheap they ain't.

What does your title list as year, and make? My title says, make: spec constr, year: blank I didn't need bumpers. I sent a photo of an old Lotus 7 with the MV-426b application as an example of the original car being replicated. If the year is blank, there is no emissions inspec required so ODBII port is not required. I think a windshield/wipers and reverse light are required. (At least my mechanic required them.)

Spent the evening at JonW's with his two cars.

It does look interesting, but I don't think I have enough headroom in the shop. I don't see any wheels on it........... -

Martin, Thanks for the kind words. It was a pleasure meeting you and showing you around the workshop/garage. Being around someone similarly afflicted makes me feel more "normal". I think you just gave away my high-tech body panel design tool (card board), and my idea for cold weather body work (triangle infill). The Atom photo wasn't the most flattering for the car, so here are a couple with less clutter: http://usera.imagecave.com/jawinter/2007-09-23-23.jpg and one showing it being removed from the build table: http://usera.imagecave.com/jawinter/2007-09-23-11.jpg -
Did I really say those things attributed to me in the article? My memory is too short to dispute them. If anyone has taken offense, you can kick my lumpy nosecone the next time you see me (with the car).

Going to be in the Philadelphia area.
Jon W. replied to MHKflyer52's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Martin, I'm about 55 miles west of Philly. You're welcome to visit, but you might be afraid to enter my garage as I may have a car hanging from a hook. http://usera.imagecave.com/jawinter/2007-09-23-11.jpg -

You can bend them with a hicost or locost bender. Locost version: http://usera.imagecave.com/jawinter/2007-03-11-01.jpg

I'm into Locost cars and construction thereof. I built my own roll tubing bender for about $130. Eastwood sells one for $995. You can get a nice powered one for about $8k. See photos of it in action on: http://www.locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1503&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=45

Who would be crazy enough to try to build an Ariel Atom clone? http://usera.imagecave.com/jawinter/2007-06-17-20.jpg

My son and I built a Locost from a 1980 320i because the price was right; $275. I'm not a big fan of K-Jetronic. I do think an I6 would look sweet in a 7 as a cruiser; or a 4 cyl with carbs (or EFI) as a racer. My next 7 will be Miata-based, after I finish my Locost Atom VTEC. BMW Locost can be seen at http://www.caranddriver.com/features/11304/features-review-the-homemades-jon-a-winterhalters-locost-sports-car-page2.html
