We are usually on the inside of the downhill (last corner) and assuming will be the case again this year. Dark blue 26R Elan, Alloy/Red S2 7, and the red 1966 MG Midget. Tan Freighliner toter home with matching tan stacker trailer. Craig

Mike, Glad you liked the cars in the shop. For anyone interested, the Ginetta is a "real" G4R, complete with "big" Lotus twincam, IRS, Girling AR calipers front and rear, etc, etc, etc. I know that Mike took an under hood shot of that car (at least I think he did) and it's really a cool piece of kit. The "blue" 7 is a complete re-do of a 1962 chassis that was basically a basket case (the original data plate survives) and will get a 1500 pre-crossflow that makes just about 170bhp (really). The red 7 is also a 1500 powered car and will be at the Lime Rock Historics over Labor Day weekend and I hope to break the 1:00 barrier with that car this year which is pretty quick for a 7 on vintage race rubber. Too bad Mike didn't get to see the 26R Elan race car that was tucked away in another garage awaiting service. It's probably the nicest of the bunch and will also be at Lime Rock. If anyone is planning on being there, please stop by and say hello. Craig

In order to save some additional email and PM "answering" I thought I'd post what was left to sell off the chassis as follows: 1 pair of chromed clamshell "mid-fender" stays Caterham aluminum fuel tank (absolutely stock size). Will include filler neck, hose clamps, sending unit, and dash gauge if desired 2 sets of "red" Simpson 4 point Camlock 3" wide racing belts Complete dash with full keyed ignition switch (2 sets of keys), 4 toggle switches (headlights, fan, turn signals, wipers, hi/lo beam), horn button, and complete wiring harness 2 sets of wheels, both are 13's, 1 set is 7" wide Panasports, and the other is 5.5" wide Minilites. Stock bench type 70's era Caterham seats (similar to original Lotus 7 style seats) Left hand drive steering rack, rack mounts, and complete steering shaft and steering wheel Ohio title with matching assembled vehicle sticker Pictures of all remaining parts are available on request. email or pm me (see original ad for contact info). Thanks, Craig

Can't recall exactly but seem to remember that someone was looking for a pair of the mid-fender supports for clamshell fenders (the ones that support the approximate mid-point of the fender). If so, I have a pair of recently chromed ones in perfect condition. $50 for the pair. Craig chima97@aol.com or PM me

Updating the post to let everyone know what has been sold/committed to date, and to add another component to the list. Sold as follows: aeroscreen, rear fenders, rear lights, radiator, front suspension bits. Am now going to include the complete rear end assembly if anyone wants it as a complete unit. This is a Cortina based solid axle rear end as was typically used in all early Caterhams, but has been significantly worked over as follows: Lower a-frame strengthened and gusseted, now with spherical rod bearing for pinion angle adjustability, Cortina housing has been bead blasted, straightened, and a full length Stego plate added; New rear wheel cylinders, shoes, drums, and hardware were used when the car was restored, Axles have new bearings and longer, upgraded 7/16" wheel studs; diff is a 3.9 that is set up on a clutch pack Salisbury limited slip unit, and I will also include the upper trailing arms as well. Pretty much everything you need to bolt in a complete rear end and go have fun. $1500.00 for all, and this is essentially the cost of what Dave Bean sells just the limited slip unit for these days and truly about 1/2 of the cost of what it would take to replace this setup.

A friend of mine recently bought the 1979 BDR powered Caterham that I built about 5 years ago (see ad on page 13 in cars for sale section) with the idea of me converting it to a vintage race car. The car has been used sparingly since it was originally purchased and the parts listed below would be available for sale if he goes ahead and moves forward with his decision to convert it to a race car. HOWEVER, he unexpectedly now has the opportunity to buy a complete, nearly race-ready car and will consider selling the Caterham as a rolling chassis (less the motor and transmission -- I want both those items for another project). That would be a 100% complete Caterham, except for the motor and transmission, fully titled in Ohio, with 2 sets of wheels, with lots of trick suspension pieces and go fast bits (limited slip, big radiator, dry sump tank, oil cooler, remote oil filter, oil thermostat, etc) for $12K. But he needs to make a decision on this somewhat quickly and if nobody wants a complete chassis, he is very content to keep what he's got and sell off the following parts from the car: Alloy Caterham fuel tank Rear Fenders Rear lights Front Lights and turn signals Rollbar Complete interior (original Lotus/Caterham style bench seats) Custom Dry sump tank Steering wheel Dash and gauges Carbon Fiber aeroscreen assembly and mirrors Front suspension with drop spindles Complete set of 4 Spax adjustable shocks and springs Ohio title with matching assembled vehicle sticker Radiator with dual electric fans 2 sets of wheels and tires Realistically, it is a "tossup" which direction he goes with this right now (keep the chassis and part out, or sell the chassis as a roller and buy the other race car), but we (he) needs to make a decision on this fairly soon as I need to get started disassembling the car if that's the way it ends up going. If anyone is interested in any of the above (chassis, parts, etc), please just email me and I will follow-up in the order that I receive the inquiries and will give you first shot at those items you are interested in once a decision is made. Pictures of the car (and parts) can still be found in the original ad in the "cars for sale section" 1979 BDR Caterham on page 13 so that's probably the easiest place to look for a photo if you have a question on the parts or chassis. Any other questions just call or email. Craig Chima, CC Motorsports (330) 807 0742 or chima97@aol.com

Car is sold pending receipt of funds. Thanks to those who inquired. Craig

Mike, to briefly answer your questions I would say that "speed" is more or less a relative thing. The CSR is very, very fast and plenty fast for 99% of drivers out there. I don't think it is as fast as the alloy block Vauxhall car, primarily because it weighs about 100 pounds more and the Vauxhall motor made close to 300bhp and was 2.3 liters with more torque to boot. But, at 3 seconds to 60 mph, the CSR is stupid fast. And as for handling and comfort it's really hard to beat. It rides more like a modern luxury sports car (supple, comfortable, easy to drive, etc) and yet it still does everything that a traditional Caterham does (ultra quick response, unbelievable handling, brakes, etc). Sort of best of both worlds. If you've had a solid axle car and made the jump to a de Dion car and seen that level of improvement, this is the same kind of jump up in comfort and performance. Maybe that's the best explanation I can offer.

Caterham FIA Rollbar, Stock Rollbar, Side Door Mirrors
craig chima replied to craig chima's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
Sorry, the stock roll bar was sold. Craig -
Yes, this is the same car that is posted about 10 listings down in this same "for sale" forum. I bought it from Paul Schmitt in Avon (about an hour from me) about a month ago for a couple of reasons. For one, because it was a smoking good deal. Secondly, having owned probably 15 Caterhams and Lotus 7's over the years, I'd always wanted a CSR and the car was local to me. I certainly didn't need the car (who really "needs" a Caterham) as I currently own an extremely nice 5 speed de Dion car with 250bhp 2 liter alloy block BDP Cosworth motor (on carbs). And over the past month I've given the car a ton of serious "loving.". This is not meant to be an indictment of Paul, but he truly enjoyed the car and drove it frequently and didn't spend much time on the "aesthetics" so the car was looking pretty sad and tired when I bought it. So, I've fixed a few of the things that were not working (some of the lights, horn, broken exhaust mount, etc.), have changed all the fluids and filters (new synthetics throughout), flushed and refilled the cooling system, installed a new Odyssey PC 625 battery and given the car a very, very, very thorough "going over.". In addition to that, I have done a front and rear alignment on the car and also done setup (scaling) on the car with a 185# driver. As far as I am concerned, it is 100% mechanically perfect, spot-on and ready to go.. For those who don't know, I have a motorsports prep business that specializes in historic and vintage race cars, many of which are original Lotus 7's, and I have been working on these cars for 25+ years. The frame is absolutely straight and beautiful and the car has never been "tracked" or abused in any way. Here are a list of some of the features of the car You can go to the other listing for additional details (including pictures) but here are some of the basics: 15,000 miles (plus or minus a few - Speedo replaced just before I bought the car) 2.3 liter Cosworth Duratech 0-60 3.1 sec 1315 lbs 260 hp 4 point racing harness 6 speed transmission Full inboard suspension Full weather equipment (heater, wind shield etc. soft top, side curtains, etc.) Cloth seats AP Racing Brakes Assembly Completed at Caterham Dealer (Jon in Denver) Dry Sump RHD Rotary Throttle Bodies Speedo replaced just before I purchased it. It has a Radar and motion alarm system with pager The top and side curtains are in excellent condition and have obviously been used very little. The windows are not yellowed and there are no tears, rips, or mars in the vinyl. There is also the original tool kit and "Soft Bits" tonneau cover that come with the car. The interior is in excellent condition. My critiques of the interior relate to a couple of small imperfections on the transmission tunnel vinyl as shown in one of the pictures. Under the hood is absolutely beautiful and very nicely detailed. My only major critique of the car is the condition of the paint. It is by no means "bad" (probably a 7.5 out of 10), it is simply a matter that there are a number of small stone chips in the front and some scuffing around the drivers "door" area where one would get in and out of the car. But there are no dents or dings anywhere. I am now asking $44,500 for this car in order to cover my time and the money spent on it and I don't think you'll ever find another CSR at a comparable price. I would actually be very happy to keep it if someone by chance might be interested in my BDP powered car. That car actually has only 7000 miles, and has leather seats, 5 speed, and is probably in nicer overall condition than the CSR (BRG with yellow stripe). Having driven both cars, I can tell you that it is equally as fast as the CSR and I would need probably $34K out of the BDP powered car (the motor is likely worth close to $20K and has under 500 miles since a complete rebuild from Peter Marcovicci including dyno) but ultimately, I have decided that I am more of an "old school" guy and my preference is to keep the BDP car instead of the CSR and hence selling the CSR. Bottom line is that one has to go and my preference is to sell the CSR and as per above it is absolutely ready to go. Craig Chima, CC Motorsports, chima97@aol.com or 330 807-0742. Akron, OH (additional pix coming soon -- lots of interior and under hood shots). If you want pix "now" (i.e. before I get them posted), or pix of my BDP car, just email me directly at the above address

Miscellaneous Lotus 7 and Caterham Parts
craig chima replied to craig chima's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
Brooklands are spoken for. Forgot to mention that I will have complete set of Bilstein shocks and springs off of '95 Caterham that is being converted to race car if anyone is looking a set. Sort of recall a post awhile back with somebody looking for the like. Craig -
George, It is not an SCCA approved cell, but will fit in most any 7 or Caterham and similar replica. Craig

Doing some Spring Cleaning of the race shop and came across these parts that are "extra" to my needs at the moment. Let me know if anyone can use. 1. Complete Brooklands setup including base unit and side mirrors. As used on 1995 Caterham but fits on standard Lotus 7's as well. Very, very nice. $350 2. Caterham aluminum steering rack mounts. $50/pr. 3. Early Lotus 7 front brake calipers. Have been bead blasted and the pucks are in good condition, and have new bleed screws but the rubber likely needs replaced. $100/pr 4. Early Lotus 7 front uprights, trunions, spindles, caliper brackets, and hubs (3.750 bolt circle). This is pretty much a complete front end setup off of an early 7 less the rotors that was converted to a full on SCCA race car with custom suspension and while it is "grungy" it could all be cleaned up and re-used. The uprights are the desirable early style with the proper bolt-on caliper bracket as is correct for a "7" and even the bearings and races inside the hubs are fine to use. $250 for all. 5. Two front anti roll bars (sway bars). Both are .500 O.D. One is an original S2 Lotus 7 bar that the ends have been chopped off right where the bar would go into the upper suspension arm. It could easily be repaired by welding a fender washer and fine thread 1/2" bolt to the bar on each end to make it good as new again. $25. The other bar is a bar that was being used on a car with modified front suspension with full upper a-arm and a totally separate sway bar and the customer decided to go to a 5/8 bar. $25 for this bar as well. 6. Brake and Clutch pedals. These are actually out of an original Ginetta G4 that I put an aftermarket pedal setup in but are very similar to early Lotus 7 pedals and could easily be modified to work in a 7 if someone is building a replica or restoring a car. $50/pr. All parts located in Akron, OH and are plus shipping. Craig Chima, CC Motorsports. (330) 807-0742 or chima97@aol.com

Donnie, If you are simply looking for someone to set up a Quaife unit in your existing diff, I am happy to help with that assuming it is a standard English Ford unit. Have done dozens of those. You can contact me tomorrow (Monday) at chima97@aol.com or 330 807 0742. Craig Chima/CC Motorsports. Akron, OH. I am leaving on vacation on Tues for about 12 days so will be out of touch for awhile if you don't make contact on Monday but it is a simple job assuming that your existing diff is in good working order. The Lotus 7 is the ex-Tom Robertson 1977 D Production Runoffs Winner. Still as of this date the only Lotus 7 to ever win a Runoffs championship. My ex car (Lotus 7) with one of my current 1500 motors actually sat on the FP pole at the Runoffs at Laguna Seca last month but had an incident during the race and finished 6th. A 7 might have a chance again when the Runoffs come back to Mid Ohio in 2016, but definitely not next year at Daytona.

2006 Caterham S3 Roadsport SVT Zetec (185bhp). A customer of mine bought this car from Mike (Breezy7 on this website) in St. Louis in the Spring of 2013 and I have done occasional service and maintained it for him since that time but now he has decided to sell it and I am listing it on his behalf. It is a wonderful 2 owner car that truly needs nothing other than to be enjoyed and driven. Here is the link to the original posting from a couple of years ago on this site: http://usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=7467 The car now has 14,300 miles so it has been driven only about 1200 miles in the past 18 months. The car is basically exactly as it was when purchased, still with gorgeous polished alloy body and British Racing Green fiberglass. 5 speed transmission, De dion rear, quick release Momo steering wheel, Carpet & Heat insulation kit, full top & bag, heater and heated windscreen, wind deflectors, tonneau, wheel locks, alloy radiator and mesh grill, etc, etc, etc. Everything works perfectly and the car is basically immaculate throughout and Mike did a fabulous job on the build. I don't think that Bob has had the car out in the rain since he has owned it. I will try to post some new pix but you can certainly refer to the original posting pictures to get a detailed idea of what the car looks like The car is titled with a clear Ohio title as a 1965 Caterham 7, and hence has Historical license plates on it. I am fielding calls and questions on the car since the owner is not mechanically inclined and I work on these cars for a living. Very realistically priced at $29,750.00. Craig Chima (330) 807-0742 or chima97@aol.com. Car is located in Akron, OH

I always loved the sound quality from those Panasonics. Much better than Sony or Audiovox. Panasport maybe?
