It's been a long time since I've updated this post - sorry. Here are a few recent pics. The car is almost finished. At present, I'm getting the cycle wings and rear fenders covered in CF film. The rear toneau is being fitted. A mirror bracket is being fabricated, and the light brackets and header/muffler are being chrome plated. The car looks awesome and the kids love driving it! The Birkin makes approximately 150hp and weighs in the neighborhood of 1200 lbs. I haven't had the car on a dyno or put it on the scale, but drew my conclusion from similarly outfitted Birkins. The car has a stock fuel injected silvertop 2.0L Zetec.

I will get the car in June. I ordered a roller (no eng & trans). Options chosen were Wilwood brakes and fuel line kit. As far as the motor goes, I haven't decided. A LS1 or L33 seems the most practical given the tire size limitations, but an LS3 would be cool just because. Sorry I haven't posted any updates for a while. The build progress is moving along nicely, but shipping delays and a few mid-stride changes prevented the car from being ready by Christmas. The chassis and components are almost ready for powder coating. The bonnet, nose cone, and scuttle are almost ready for paint. I decided to go with a 36V/1000W electric motor. The car will have a thumb actuated throttle and rear disc brake. The price is highly dependent on the level of customization desired. A basic build will likely cost upward of $2.5K. Your best bet is to contact Tom to discuss pricing.

Mine will be powered by a small 2 stroke tecumseh chainsaw engine. This should propel the car to about 25 mph.

My friend Tom Beauchamp recently contacted me to announce that he is building five 5/8th's scale Sevens. Of course, I immediately stopped by his shop to put down a deposit. As of today, two of the five Sevens that Tom is building are spoken for. The car that Tom is building for my kids (Christmas gift) will have a roll bar, windscreen, cycle fenders, push-button start, work GPS speedometer, horn, and working lights. When finished, it will look very similar to my Birkin. Here are a few photos of a 5/8th's scale Seven that Tom built a while back. Oh yeah, the carbon fiber film holds up nicely. Great rock chip protection instead of sheet metal (or clear film) for rear fenders.

I experimented with covering a front fender with carbon fiber film. My experiment turned out "okay". I believe it would have looked a far better if I had an additional set of hands to operate the heat gun. The heat gun makes the film far more pliable and shapable.

Get well soon Skip. The lesson I learned from you is to shoo off cats with my left hand. That way my right hand is free to use my pistol or nearest blunt instrument.

I cannot wait to see more photos. It will be a rocket!

LOL! The car was built like a tank and was reliable. Vacuum wipers and non-functioning radio added character.
