  1. The cars are fairly reliable and simple to work on. You can drive it as a daily driver if you can stand the Texas summer heat. My regular mechanic who services my company trucks takes care of my Caterhams. If you treat the Caterham as a second vehicle, Hagerty can insure it at reasonable cost. Registering in Texas is not a problem. You have to jump through a few small hoops if you live in a metropolitan area. A new Caterham will exceed your budget and you will have to wait about seven to nine months for a new kit to come across the pond. Your budget will get you a real nice used Caterham. I don't know any one in Austin has a Caterham. There are several Caterham owners in Houston. Let us know when you plan to come to town and I am certain that we can make arrangement for you to check out the cars.
  2. The local Lotus sales representative said the Evora in the TV show has the optional Stage II exhaust.
  3. http://www.angelfire.com/biz6/muffler/ Affordable Muffler on Dairy Ashford between IH10 and Memorial. Good folks. They welded the cracked muffler on the Caterham
  4. My zetec was cutting out at 4,000 rpm especially the car was pushed hard in hot weather. The culprit tumed out to be A/F was too lean.
  5. I had the R300 painted from bare aluminium to neon yellow including the roll bar, nose cone and 7 grill. I also had the carbon fiber front and rear wings clear coated. The labor cost to disassemble and assemble the car is a major cost item. This included the removal of the windshield, roll bar, wings, interior panels, etc. You can save a bit If you can do this part yourself.
  6. The duct work look like the same configuartion as a couple of EP Caterham running in the Houston area SCCA. They aslo run a straight duct from the grill to the back.
  7. Barnes & Nobles said the next issue of Evo should be on the stand on Nov. 8
  8. On the second video, those trees scare me!! I did a track day last weekend at the local law enforcement academy training track and it has street lights around the track like those trees. I addressed the issue with the academy's chief instructor and he said the architect screwed up by installing lights for night training exercise except that police cars have headlights. After lunch a Z06 did a 360 and the tail hit one of the light poles.
  9. It proves that motorsport is a lot better for your health than playing bingo at the VFW hall.
  10. By the time you pay for the cost of assembly, duty, sales tax, shipping, registration fee, and other miscellaneous out of pocket expense, it will be close to or exceeds the 6 digits depending on your option list.
  11. yes, let me know when you like to come by. this afternoon or monday after work?
  12. Adam, my car does not have a heater. Come on by and take a look. Paul
  13. The SPA mirrors can be attached using one of the existing holes or you can buy an adapter kit from sevenselans.com
  14. I have the MFS mirror plus the SPA convex mirrors. They just about eliminates all of the blind spots. The MFS has very low profile offering an unobstructed view. It also blends in nicely with the black pack.
  15. Allstates used to cover my house, Lexus, Lotus Esprit, and Caterham plus a separate umbrella policy. Last month I switched the Lotus and Cateham to Hagerty and Allstates now only carries the house, Lexus, and umbrella. There is one minor detail, Allstates requires the amount of auto coverage to be more than the minimum state requirement to issue the umbrella policy,
  16. I had one of the first Hummer H2 in Houston. It was a genuine POS. It got me stranded a couple of times and I had to replace just about everything (sometimes more than once) except for the floor mats. If I have known that the Hummer has such an impressive CD and outperforms the lowslung Cateham, I would have kept that hunk of scrap metal.
  17. My Banner battery died without warning. It lasted about 4 years. Your 5 years old battery probably is at its last leg.
  18. There are headlights on the car, you should have kept on driving till the magic number is reached.
  19. I suggest paint the roll bar a bright color because it is the tallest part of the car and you want people to see you.
  20. I had to replace the SV's ECU due to battery acid leaking.
  21. why not? the Korean has copied everything else including the MB on their latest luxury cars. however, they are excellent buy for the money.
  22. To register in Harris County, you need to get a safety inspection sticker and ask for a green sheet. Since the car is already titled, you should be able to take your current title and green sheet with proof of insurance to the County Tax Assessor to get your Texas plate.
  23. The Gulf color at Caterham USA is the R500 as published in the latest Road and Track magazine.
