  1. The upgrade brake used by Caterham is the AP 4 pots with slotted disk.
  2. I had problem with the rear brake lockup on my Caterham SV on track days. I changed to Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads for the front brakes as recommended by the dealer. Now the lock up problem is solved.
  3. I had the exact problem. I went to a muffler shop and spend $ 20 to have it re-weld. You need to check the bracket holding the exhaust system near the rear wheel. If it is not tight, vibration may be the cause. Prior to the re-weld, my bracket came loose several times. Now at over 10,000 miles, every thing is fine.
  4. I like to take another Man's watch if you have an extra one. Please let me know and I will send you the payment immediately.
  5. Call Andy Fawcett at College Station: http://race.fawcettengineering.com/
  6. Buy the Porsche, it is a different type of driving experience as you can get from a Seven. The sound of the flat six is fantastic. When I bought the Caterham in 2004, I also have a Porsche 911 and a Lotus Esprit V-8 in the garage. The Porsche is the most comfortable for longer trips and it is easier to drive quick than the Esprit. Of course for pure fun, the Caterham is the choice.

  8. My Caterham has Momo wheel and Pegasusautoracing.com has a good selection.
  9. I take one man and one woman's watch. Payment is in the mail today.
  10. I use 18 psi on my SV. Caterham recommends 16 psi.pksurveyor2006-12-29 09:27:47
  11. You will be a safer driver in the Seven because there is no cup holder for you to take a sip, the car is too noisy to use a cell phone, and there is no music for distraction because there is no radio, cd player or boom box. You will be concentrating on driving with two hands on the wheel.
  12. I use a GForce open face helmet with goggle for cruising. It keeps the rock off my head and it also provides wind protection in the winter.
  13. SCCA requires SA2000 or SA2005 for track days. They will accept M2000 or M2005 for autocross. M95 may still be used for the time being since the 2005 just became effective. Individual clubs are sometimes not as strict. You are right that most track organizers are lax on the enforcing. It is your head after all.
  14. I use a G-Force open face helmet with goggle to keep the wind buffeting off my eyes for touring. I have a Bell M-2 full face for track. The open face is lighter and allows conversation with the passenger.
  15. My transportation department: Primary Daily driver: Hummer H2 Secondary Daily driver: Lexus LS400 Fun Car: Lotus Esprit V8 Real Fun Car: Caterham SV
  16. I was in the same situation when I decided between a Birkin and a Caterham in 2004. I am lucky that we have both a Birkin and a Caterham dealer in Texas and in the same city. The Birkin is better value for the money but it no longer has an official distributor in the USA. The Caterham is very proud of its heritage and everything costs an arm and leg. I consulted with a friend who is very active in SCCA racing and has seven Lotus. His advise was that the Caterham retains its value a lot better. The Birkin and Caterham are both wonderful fun cars and you probably will not notice much in daily driving.
  17. I have been an admirer of the Seven since my college days. I saw my first real Seven stuck in traffic in front of the hotel I was staying in Hong Kong. The car was invisible among the double decker buses and the driver was melting in the summer heat. I told myself that this looks like fun and I got to get me one. Fortunately we have a Caterham dealer in Texas, so now I have a Caterham SV to keep my Lotus Esprit V8 company. I owns a civil engineering/land surveying consulting firm for more than 20 years. My daily driver is a Hummer H2.
