  1. Just uploaded another vid from the weekend and thought i'm make a dedicated channel for my Car. Please have a look and I hope you like what you see. I'll post updates as often as possible. Tim:) http://www.youtube.com/user/timphoto83ec?feature=mhee
  2. Most research i'm doing into tires talks about ultimate grip levels and not feel on the limit. I'm running A048 R tires at the moment 195/60/14 and find at the limit they can let go quite quickly. On street i'm talking , not track. When these are up for replacing I want to run a more road based tire in the same size that will allow me to "explore" the limits of the car a little easier , give me plenty of warning of letting go . The Direzza z1 I hear is good but how is it at the limit?? This is what I want to find out. Who is running what and how are they. What should we be running on our light weight cars? 2 seconds per lap at my local track is not what i care about. Having fun getting there is. Tim
  3. Jam him in there some how and take him for a spin and scare HELL out of him. He may have some respect for it then. Or show him the top gear vid on you tube.
  4. Sure and our local touring car races are V8's only. Personally I don't know anyone who owns or has owned a V8 though. Would love to have a go at a V* ute though.
  5. Hmm , what about the rest of the world though. I'm sure there are some Cobras in the UK and Europe but with 7 reps like Birkins ,Westfields , Donkervoorts , etc plus here in Australia with PRB , Arrow , MNR , Nota plus a handful more . We see a few Cobra's but they are more "show n shine" and not many of them. Don't forget the New Zealanders or the South Africans either. Both car crazy countries who aren't hooked on Big V8's.
  6. Let us know what you find out as I was thinking of getting one laser cut. Tim
  7. Fantastic piece of kit! Please keep the pics and updates coming.
  8. Trikes like the Morgan , Triking , JZR etc are not bad at all in the handling department. I have never driven one but have seen quite a few on the track. My preference is for the Triking with an 1100 Moto Guzzi engine on the front bumper. I have seen one of these supercharged also. These things make all the right noises and drift well. Have a look at this link.
  9. I have heard of a few Elans running Toyota 4AGE 20 valves. Small , light and with a standard 160 or so HP. This is what I have in my seven and its plenty of power for me for now. The Zetec is another but they don't rev like the 4A and so have a different character. I imagine the Duratec is too tall??
  10. Personally for a small light car like the 7 i think a small light engine is the way to go. To me the ultimate 4 would have to be the cosworth BDA as a 1600 in the 7. Best sound ever. How heavy are these cars when fitted with a v6 or v8? Whats the weight distribution?
  11. I use the red loctite on many threads and never really have a problem getting it undone. A little bit of weight and a quick turn at the same time should break the bond. Its strong stuff but no stronger than say epoxy of the same thickness.
  12. Magnesium minilites were used on rally cars so they are plenty strong enough. It comes down to condition. They corrode leaving a white dust. If you want to use them , have them x ray checked then painted with a good quality paint to keep them perfect. On a light car you will need to replace them with another light wheel to maintain the feel behind the wheel. Tim
  13. Well ,thats what I thought also. But there is no turning back once I have done that.
  14. Its the hardest thing to choose the color! I have just bough a 7 that is British racing green over polished alloy. Because the car has carbon guards and i'm finding it hard to pick a color. I prefer retro looking colors that i'm afraid will clash with the carbon........or would it look good?? Would love to see some pics if you have any. plan B is to strip and polish the hood and scuttle and just have the nose painted. Probably black but again open to ideas. Its the carbon thats making it hard.
  15. Bench seat is not a bad idea. In sedans I have raced I usually sit very close to the wheel but I have more elbow room. In the Birkin my right elbow (right hand drive) hits the side of the car at the slightest turn so i have to lift my elbow up and outside when turning right. Just out of interest what is the distance between the rear firewall and the front of the seat cushion where your back sits. or even better the top of the firewall to the steering wheel center would give me a great idea of how much room I have to play with. Thanks guys. Tim
  16. I recon you would be the first..........then arrested!
  17. For those of you with Tillets and long arms have you gained much room. I'm toying with the idea of buying a Birkin but all the ones I have had a chance to sit in have standard seats which put me too close to the steering wheel. I'd like to know if I bolt some Tillets to the floor as far back as I can how much room can I gain. Leg room is not a problem. Arm room is. Thanks Tim
  18. Fair comment re his fame. As I said I don't know anything about him other than you tube vids so I was out of line with what my "KING" comment. Re Top Gear , I would bet they were given this vid by Ken. ie he invited them to come along for the ride. His team would have edited in a short section with a TG presenter . I would doubt there were any TG film crew there. A free 5min segment is hard to knock back for any tv producers. It was all about getting the brands out there and having some fun in the process.
  19. Wow , brave man saying that here. Here in Australia I had never heard of him. On the international stage I never noticed his name.. What I could see was a heap of money and some major choreography . That was nothing but an add. Filmed over probably several days with a huge crew. I would like to see the out takes of that vid. A good driver yes ...but not the KING he is making himself out to be.
  20. Will , have you tried the gold foil stuff? Its expensive at about $80 for a 1x2 foot piece. Out at one of the state rounds I noticed many of the top cars had engine bays or fire walls covered in this stuff. I'm in Sydney and don't have my Clubbie yet but i'm already researching the heat problem. Its harder to deal with than the cold. Like anything its the combination of ideas that will work over just 1 product or treatment. Tim
