Is bigger , faster , more comfortable ,really better? Im guessing that being into the Lotus 7 design many on here would think not. So think about your local Sunday morning windy road. Without breaking any speeding laws which one of the above Porsches would be more fun? If you really think the latest turbo supercar will actually be a more rewarding drive i would say your more a poser than driver. On track anything can be fun when its sorted and your on the limit but i bet the guy in the 1960's porsche driving at the limit is going to have a bigger grin than the Turbo driver who just lapped him without even trying. Its all about fun isnt it? Thats why i drive what i do.

If you read his first post you will note he has 14 inch rims.

http://www.blatchat.com/t.asp?id=214025read from entry 6 The guys in the UK drive in these conditions all the time

Have a look on Blatchat. The UK guys love the Yoko AO21's for cold and wet. Available in that size also. Otherwise if your out mainly when its dry you could go the Yoko 48's in a soft compound or better still the AO50's. For the road here in Aus im running Dunlop Direzza star spec2's also in your size and love them but the car does move around on them in a predictable way. Hope that helps Tim

I have a Silver top in my 7. Not a caterham but close in size. Click on my link below for pics. You may have to scroll down a bit. Tim

Great find Gary ! Some of the best fun i have had is crazy Train and Bus rides in India. Wonderful experience if you "go with the flow". If you fight it though you will hate every second. Introduced my 15 year old Son to the Joys of rooftop travel earlier this year. From within sight of Everest to Kathmandu .GREAT father son bonding!

Advice needed: is a Seven a good idea for me?

WIMP!!! But i agree with you.....great car , have fun. Tim -
Great color to be seen. Bummer about the damage though. I tend to drive miles back from any truck just in case. Worried about rocks being thrown up or a chunk of tire hitting me in the face.

Hmmm , John i think you need to read up on Alfa. The Alfa badge is actually based on the coat of arms of the Visconti family and the emblem of Milan, With a wreath around it to celebrate race wins etc etc etc. Changed many times over the years and worth a read. The "shamrock" your referring to is actually a 4 leaf clover not a 3 and is called a Quadrifoglio. It is found on Alfa race cars (and these days denotes power and trim levels) and was introduced after the death of a racer back when Enzo Ferrari was working for Alfa. As for the Masser shirts , well its being made at the Modena factory of Maserati. Remember the Fiat group own many of these brands. Some great history worth reading with these Italian makers. Tim

Call Haltech yourself . They are not going to be happy that one of their dealers is defaming them and also not going to be happy that one of their dealers doesn't know what they are doing. Your not going to get your money back but a bit of "name and shame" will make you feel better.

I have read a fair bit about that.Good thread about it here.. http://http://www.hdtalking.com/general_harley_davidson_topic/37241-holes_in_windshield_for_buffeting.html Also interesting section on aerodynamics here. http://http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Fairing.html#Windshield I made my own defectors a put a little reverse flick on the outer edge to try and "flick" the air out a bit more. The info on Von Karman vortices explains why my idea didnt work.

Very cool guy but not sure id drive a Type 35 with no mud guards without some eye protection. Imagine the stones being thrown at you.

Pure Class! do you have any other pictures under the skin?

Orbital sander will leave zillions of little squiggle scratches. I did this when removing paint from my car before polishing. When wet sanding i went with the grain of the alloy only. With the coating your using can you not just have a rough sanded surface? maybe the orbital is all thats needed. Tim

Problem 1 is your height. A friend of mine has a Birkin and he is 6'4". He finds it fine after moulding his own seat which moves him back to the firewall and drops him down so he can see under the windscreen frame. This was a foam in a bag seat and you will find many people who will help you make one. Leg room is fine but check the arm room. For me with long arms its a little tight. Cost no object then a wide body Caterham. Problem 2 is maintenance . No reason why it shouldnt be reliable. Depends who built it and thats a very important point. 2 cars can look the same but you want the one that was built with care and thought. Not slapped together using second hand parts of untested quality. These cars are though a pleasure to tinker with. Just cleaning them you will learn a lot. Good to have a spanner in your back pocket with a polishing cloth in the other. 3 is parking. I would have a chat to the parking guys. Tell them that you want to be able to park it yourself. Get friendly with them. They may be car guys also and thrilled to have something different to look at. 4 is shopping. My local opens at 6am. I love taking the 7 and see how much i can fit in there . Sometimes drive home with a bulk pack of toilet paper on my lap but still puts a smile on my face. If it dosnt then you know you bought the wrong car. -
Couldnt you do this with the carbs also. Have a set of jets and chokes just for the test. Lean it out to the point where it only just runs. I think you may spend a lot of money on efi and still have to do this anyway. Having said that once you go to efi you will never go back unless its for historic purposes . Have a look at the Jenvey tbs and whatever they use in the UK. good luck Tim

Another Tyre ..sorry Tire worth looking at is the AO21 . 185/60/13 though .Demon Tweeks sell them. Have a look at the Blatchat forum for many great reviews . Would be better on a cold road. If your worried about importing , I ordered 2 tyres from them on a Saturday morning here in Australia and they arrived on the next Tuesday. Very impressive. The Kumho V70A is available in the 175. You could run soft front and medium rear? Tim

Have you thought about some AO48's or Toyo 888. I'm running the AO48s 99% dry road and think they are great. Not too spendy and have lasted well. They do throw some stones up though.
-
Just cant fault it at any angle. Very Sweet car. I think i'd want it kept in my lounge room rather than the garage.

How do you guys get away with listing a car as a 1965 LOTUS super seven when its clearly not. Neither of these cars have been anywhere near the Lotus or Arch factories yet both claim to be a LOTUS. Very relaxed rules over there compared to us in Aus. Can you also build a 250 GTO on a toyota celica and sell it as a Ferrari?
-
Same here but in Varanasi. Temp is a bit different though. T shirt and jeans weather now but last week they had the coldest day in 45 years. 40 c at home in Australia though so not complaining. About to head out for my "cant fit another thing in" $3 breakfast. I think my PRB 7 would last about a day here.
