Looking for a FIA roll bar for a LHD, S3, imperial chassis (i.e. the single-diagonal bar produced by Arch). Thanks!
-
Does anyone have a Caterham S3 windscreen available, please? Seems a long shot, but preferably with black surround and stanchions. Thanks!
-
For those of you running external regulators, are they vacuum-referenced? In most setups I've seen, the vacuum port is just left open to atmosphere.
-
The main objection I've seen to the "dead head" config is the risk of vapor lock from the fuel getting hot sitting in the rail. Any issues with this at all? I believe the in-tank pump I'm planning to use is regulated to 3 bar.
-
Thanks. All the factory rails I've looked at on 2.0 Duratecs have the "dead head" configuration, with just an inlet and no outlet. The only variation I've seen is that some have a port in the center of the rail for a fuel pressure sensor. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to log fuel pressure at the rail with a "dead head" setup, since the regulator (in my case) will be a long way from the rail (in the tank). I'm currently figuring out the appropriate in-tank pump to use and will report back. Caterham has been using in-tank/internally regulated pumps on the Duratec for a while now.

I'm putting a 2.0 Duratec into an S3 chassis with no existing fuel system. I would like to use a Caterham tank and the current injection version uses a Ford pump assembly, which drops in from the top and also includes the sender. Does anyone have this tank/pump config? My understanding is that these pumps have an internal regulator and therefore there is no external return line - they just return within the tank. And consequently they just use a single supply line through the tunnel and to a "dead head" fuel rail (as I think is standard on a factory Duratec rail). What's confusing is there are different pumps advertised on the Caterham website, with very little info. And there is some info out there that suggests some of them are regulated electronically, by a module that plugs in. To confuse things further, there is an in-line/external regulator used on the CSR. If anyone has any info on the appropriate Ford in-tank pump to use with a 2.0 Duratec (on throttle bodies), please chime in! I appreciate I could use a lift-pump/swirl-pot/HP-pump system, but I'd prefer the cleaner in-tank install. Thanks!

Thanks, I’ll let you know!

I like to use TransferWise for international wire transfer. Sorry to hear about the windshield - are they sending a fresh one? Curious because I need to order one! Shipping cost sounds similar to what Chris quoted me: approx. 200 GBP for a box containing an FIA rollbar to the US. What are your plans for your old nosecone?
-
Ha, the GBP tanked long before Boris came in! When he celebrates the union between the UK & US, he's actually talking about the road to parity between USD & GBP :-) Do you know of anywhere to source complete T9 cores in the US, please? Looking to put together a T9 based on the Tracsport semi-helical gearset and am wondering if there's a way of avoiding shipping it over from the UK. Though the exchange rate and VAT saving should soften the blow.

I'm about to embark on a 7 project and am looking to put together a powertrain to drop in it. I am currently planning on a stock 2.0 Duratec with throttle bodies and aftermarket ECU, coupled with a T9 5-speed and likely a 3.92 diff with Quaife ATB. Before I start sourcing parts, I thought I'd see if anyone has any of these bits. For example, 2.0 Duratec long block. Cheers!

Cool car! I think I mentioned to you on Instagram that I went to look at this car when it was for sale about a year ago (still have some photos). What happened to the jail-cell bars on the nosecone and the cut-down windshield - you didn't like them? :-) Did you buy your new parts through CC or another vendor (e.g. Redline)? Curious how rough the shipping costs were on things like windshield, nosecone, FIA rollbar etc.?

Thanks folks!

I'd like to buy a used 7 which is currently titled in another state. It would be brought into CA and have to be titled and then registered as a SPCNS for smog exemption (under SB100/SB1578). In terms of documentation, I would have a clean out-of-state title and invoices for all the major parts. It seems this has been done before, but I have a few questions about this case in particular: 1. It is currently unclear if this car was ever registered for road use in the other state (track car). Would this history be an obstacle for SPCNS and road use in CA? i.e. having a title but no history of registration. 2. It is currently titled as a "2002 CATERHAM" - i.e. it doesn't have a special SPCNS equivalent classification in the other state. Presumably this is not an obstacle to re-classification as SPCNS in CA? 3. Since the MSO was surrendered to the out-of-state DMV to obtain the title, it's not available for the CA DMV. Presumably an out-of-state title would substitute for the MSO to get SPCNS? 4. I've read conflicting info on whether the "7,500 mile limit" applies to SPCNS applications. Can you register a used out-of-state kit-car which has Thanks so much. I'm trying to contact DMV for their verdict, but getting through to Sacramento on the phone is taking ages.

I have a question regarding customs on the US side. Is there a particular class/type of customs broker I need to import a Seven on the 25-year rule? For example, some of these brokers appear to be geared towards high-end, extremely valuable imports. If I find a car that is as original as possible and appears to pose no significant issues on the 25-year rule (original engine etc.) can I just go with a standard broker? Also, how much would you typically expect to pay for customs, if everything goes smoothly? Are we talking $500-$1,000. Thanks.

Thanks Sean. As usual, this seems really ambiguous to me. For example, would this not imply that any used part that has ever come into contact with a running car is not legal to bring in? My understanding of the wording was more a case of: stripping a car down in the host country, shipping parts separately and then reassembling it to recreate the car on these shores.
-
Thanks all. This would actually be for a fresh build, rather than replacement.
-
Thanks all. I'm wondering if a used chassis raises more alarm bells with customs than a new one?
-
I'm aware of the problem of importing to the US a used rolling chassis that basically represents a disassembled used car (maybe less the drivetrain). But what about a completely bare Seven chassis comprising just the tubular chassis and some bodywork? Is this a straightforward import? Also, does anyone have any current contact numbers for the relevant authorities (EPA/NHTSA) who could help me? It's been a while since I looked into this. Thanks!

Excellent - thanks very much! -
Hi Sean! Funny, I am actually still in occasional touch with the current owner of the "Yamaham" and he wrote an article on it in Low Flying, which was great to see. It has been to Spain and back several times and he appears to be in love with it. It's funny to think that, as of last year, the car would've been eligible to bring into the US under the 25-year rule (assuming motorcycle engines are ok?). I remember moving to the US in 2007 and thinking how far in the future that seemed! I still periodically scan the UK for interesting 7s for a bit of fun and thought I'd stop by to see how much folks are paying - just in case a great deal comes along... There was a 190 BHP Fireblade engined 7 that went for 10K GBP recently - insane value.

Does anyone have any tips for scouring the European market, please? i.e. decent websites to search. I am very familiar with the UK sites, but with family on the continent and the possibility of a LHD car (not a deal-breaker for me, but a bonus), I am tempted to look further afield, but not sure what the best website are. Many thanks! -
Thanks for the reply. Wow, that's a lot cheaper than I was expecting! Is that because the car can be driven and it's a roll-on/roll-off service? Did you do this all remotely? Much appreciated.

Mind if I ask approximately how much it's costing to ship from UK to (presumably) East Coast?
