  1. You may have to zoom in on the picture but I have a steel plate welded to the rollbar diagonal and the head rest is attached with screws to the plate: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_242PlvPtVpE/SnjziyKSSZI/AAAAAAAAAeo/UW-jO2a74ec/s800/P8040058.JPG
  2. Congratulations! You almost made it to the PNW2007 tour ;-)
  3. Depends....if is is an interesting location and not outrageously far away I can change plans. I mean so far this is not even a plan yet, just an idea. For that matter, the Black Hills are still within "reasonable" distance from most of the country, i.e. 1600 miles from Washington, 1100 from Dallas, 1500 from Atlanta, 1300 from Los Angeles and 1100 from Seattle. Beautiful roads galore, lots of stuff for the family etc. So, maybe another good place to meet. But then, I know it will be hard to do given that most people have a week vacation at best. Oh well, just an idea... Gert
  4. Not too bad...planning for 16 days which will allow for a few 2-day stops. Also, most days are only 150 - 250 miles, allowing for ample sightseeing en route. SWMBO is anyway a veteran of USA 2005, PNW 2007 and Rockies 2009 plus countless shorter tours so I guess she likes it. Gert
  5. No Se7ens vacation tour this year...really sucks. So, I am making some bold plans for summer 2011. We enjoyed very much the Rocky Mountains trip last year and want to expand on this a bit east. Summary (roughly): ............route proposal deleted, newer version on page 2 of this thread........... I know a bit early....but planning and dreaming does not cost anything. No specific dates in mind yet. Just keep it in mind in case you need a destination next year :seeya:
  6. I have the same fuel cell and when filling from empty it holds about 9 gallons. Usable volume is maybe 8 gallons because it does not suck from the very bottom as well as it won't fill to the very top. When touring I usually I fill up latest after 150 -180 miles.

  8. If you are also looking for a Se7en this seems to be a nicely equipped one. Forwarded from the Birkinowners List. I know the owner only from the list but do not know the car. ______________________________>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Folks, The time has come for me to part with my Birkin. We recently adopted a little girl, and the Birkin does not "fit" in my world right now. I hope to sell it someone who can fully enjoy it. 1999 Birkin, 25,250 miles; full weather gear, purple wings & nosecone 1997 Zetec SPC Close Ratio Gearbox Quaife Differential Emerald ECU with mapping software Jenvey throttle bodies Wide-band lambda sensor (Innovate LC-1) installed; software included Fuel Safe Birkin-bespoke fuel cell; foam replaced last month 5-point harnesses for both driver & passenger Extra set of fiberglass wings (need paint to match) Custom Trailer built by Dennis Brunton Full history of invoices for parts and service $22,000 or best offer for the car, trailer, & other stuff. I am looking to replace the Birkin with a Lotus more suitable for my life right now-- I'd appreciate it if anyone has a line on an Elan+2, Elite, Eclat, or Excel that has been restored or is in very good condition. I'm not looking for a project car, but something that we can drive and enjoy right away. Tony Indianapolis
  9. You can try the Chinese method: http://library.thinkquest.org/J0111742/boundfoot.gif
  10. Indeed, good to see you there, too. If you drive up north on Hwy 16, mind the rocks on the road :smash:
  11. Well, I got it done. Using a new credit card, my wife's name, disposable e-mail address and setting the browser to "private". Really annoying. But it means I am planning to drive up Friday 13th on some nice back roads, be there Saturday and return Sunday 15th. I will probably skip the bull rider style Bitterwater Road that we did last time but may try the Parkfield-Coalinga Road. Anybody else driving up or down from LA these days? Gert I believe I will take this road up and possibly this way back
  12. Not yet. I suspect I am on the PayPal shit list because I disputed/reversed a payment to an Internet vendor that was not explained properly on my credit card bill. Then I paid the vendor with a money order instead to avoid more problems. Probably a big mistake....Maybe I have somebody else do the transaction for me in the meantime until I figure out with PayPal how to remove the block. Gert

    Snowshoe, wv

Hey what do you expect, going to a place with the name Snowshoe? Why didn't you go to Barefoot Beach, Fl. ?
  14. Just tried to order the tickets today but the PayPal checkout web site tells me for 3 different credit cards "This card can not be used for this transaction". As far as I know I am not that broke. Anybody had this problem?
  15. Strange indeed. While the tank non-venting sounds like the only way to get the gas up there it also would require at least one float needle to leak?
  16. I believe the infamous ball joint vintage was about the top joint? Anyway you should check with the Birkinowners Yahoo Group.
  17. If it is a removable part like windscreen you can take it to an anodizing place for bead blasting or brushing with subsequent anodizing (natural or color of choice). No elbow grease required, and probably not too expensive (example: my dash was brushed and anodized black for about $40).
  18. I can endorse the glass cleaner method. I use the cheap foaming glass cleaner from CostCo in the blue spray can with good effect. But it only works with some polishes like Mother's that seem to have a water soluble base. I tried other polishes like Belgom or Neverdull that are more oily and don't wash off the residue easily with water or window cleaner.
  19. There are some T9 vintages (I believe the older ones) with high fill hole where the oil fill level is 1" BELOW that fill hole/plug. If filled up to the hole they may spill oil somewhere. I remember a discussion thread about that but don't know anymore if on this forum or somewhere else.
  20. Hey, that would be a National Meet, well kind of.:hurray: I am planning to drive up to Monterey on Friday, be there Saturday and return Sunday. Probably the same excellent roads as last year. If you need a ride from LA (and back) and are not over jeans size 38 you are welcome as passenger. :smilielol5: And if you have a decent rental car we can still drive up there together. I will not be in a real hurry. Gert
  21. One of my favorite stores. Since their warehouse is only 20 min down the road I usually order will-call and pick up. One of the guys at my company used to work as shipping supervisor there. He quit because it was high pressure but on the other hand very repetitive. He also mentioned they have mind-boggling profit margins on many products but customers pay happily because of the superior customer service, availability and product selection. But if you need larger quantities of any commodity you better buy somewhere else.
  22. Me too! I would really like to meet you guys sometimes! And maybe Al has a "new" Seven by that time :hurray: But, the sticky question is still how to get a bunch of cars from the East (and West) cost to a somewhat central place. And...how to motivate a bunch of folks to take off the unheard time of a week or better two. For USA2005 we got a good dozen from the US (mostly drawn by the turnout of 38 cars from the UK), for PNW2007 it varied from 5 to 8 (all West Coast except that crazy guy Ed Hudson). My Rocky Mountains trip 2009 was with 2-3 Sevens. Your 7/7/7 Dragon got many more cars but that was a short event and with most participants rather close. So, honestly I am skeptical if we can pull this off except somebody has a creative idea. Notwithstanding your son's Yellowstone idea, maybe we should meet in Colorado or South Dakota. Still far from the east Coast for driving and pretty far from the West and Northwest but at least an easy distance for Colorado, North Texas and some Midwest areas.
  23. Maybe I should better post this to the Locost Forum but, actually cheap isn't always bad. I just picked up a few gages (tach, volt and oil temperature) to retrofit my motorcycle. They are the "Nitrous" store brand from Harborfreight and the usual 2 1/16" size. Others (water temp, electronic oil pressure, boost etc.) are available. All of these are $24.99, and include the required electronic sender (for pressure and temperature). Some were on sale at the local store for $19.99 and they had anyway more different types than the web site. The apparent quality isn't any worse than my Birkin VDO gages. Not sure about long term reliability, though but that was't really good with the VDO gages as well that cost maybe 5-6 times as much. Anyway, just an idea for the penny pinchers. They do have a disadvantage: The changeable LED backlight color needs permanent 12V to stay as selected. If disconnected it will revert to default green backlight. I measured the standby current to 7 mA which would drain my small motorcycle battery in 2-3 months. In a frequently used car with bigger battery it may be less an issue. What am I?

Last year Mopho found pretty much the same part in the bellhousing that had jammed the flywheel and I don't think he identified what it was. Funny enough he took the same picture with a coin.
  25. Hello Dave, welcome from another Seven owner in Pasadena (near Huntington Dr./San Gabriel Blvd). If you want to come along sometimes to meet and see the car send me PM. Make sure to visit http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com for local activities. We are considering a short road trip next weekend (not sure yet) if you are interested. Gert
