We looked at the possibility of doing this (Mazda-based kit with a Hyabusa) and it doesn't work. Too heavy, and too costly unfortunately. Word to Hank, you are going to get someone divorced with advice like that! tm

Kess, You will have trouble importing (a) anything newer than 25 years old, and you will also run afoul of U.S. customs if you get a car out of the UK and simply remove the engine. With no other details on this green car in Vermont(?), I'd grab it, and then put a Ford Duratec mated to a Type 9 in it. At least the exhaust would be on the *correct* side for us LHD guys. John is right in his thoughts on price. tm

Wasn't this the consensus? http://oi56.tinypic.com/11ahix0.jpg

You would need to ask (a) Jeff @ British Auto, or (b) the supplier of the engine. AER re-manufactures the engines for Ford, and as a customer, they made it quite clear to us that they do not supply any ID numbers for registration purposes. You only need a receipt for the engine purchase to prove to the DPS department that it is not stolen. tom
-
That is correct. Any crate engine supplied through Ford (and actually assembled here in Dallas for subsequent distribution throughout the U.S.) is supplied with no serial or ID number for registration. tom

You won the Porsche anyway... Looks like the high bidder on the Lotus actually had a maximum bid of 5,005.05. as that bid increment is smaller than the normal ebay minimum bid increase. Sorry Morgan, you really did *just* miss out on it.

Something similar out of Vietnam. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2285/2274048032_f2ef239a75_d.jpg

Perhaps this picture will ease the view of the RE-Amemiya Westfield? A small snapshot of what is currently on the Westfield factory floor. tm

I would like to point out that this Japanese example is *not* an official Westfield design. RE Amemiya made it. See a blog with build photo here: http://plus-u.jp/blog/amasan/ tom

Looks good Bob - got any more details? Just don't get any ideas with your Manta Mirage! tm

The motor is a new design, so I don't think there are any public specs on it. I think it will work nicely in a racecar though! My comment on the front-mounted motor was for the AWD concept variant that has been tossed about. Battery sustainability will be the over-riding factor on that idea I would think. tm
-
Yes, that's where this motor is mounted. If one was determined, I would imagine a second motor could be placed in the front of the car as well. To help balance the weight. Hank, I think before you can trade *your* car in on an EV racer, Westfield will need to know how much it weighs. tm

Miata Based Westfield Se7ens Now Legal for Import into Canada

I believe both. -
Have a look at the PBS Quickjack. Perhaps more race car-oriented, but neat nonetheless. http://www.quickjacks.com tm

There are some Mazda-based Westfields registered in California already, so there is no issue there. tm
