The design itself was very good and the styling was considered a great success however the release of the Lotus Elise in the same year soon put an end to Caterham’s ambitions of producing a practical 7 for the mass market. Lotus has 20 times the budget to produce what was in affect the same concept and upon release the retail prices for the 2 cars where virtually the same. Caterham ended the run of 50 cars in 1999 making this a very rare car. It was built on a modified Caterham 7 frame so it is a much smaller car than it appears in the pictures. I'd love to have one. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/caterham/all-models/caterham-21/2752372

Blokko
Given that only 49 were ever made, it's always great when you get to see one of these cars "in the flesh". Got to see four of them parked up at Stoneleigh back in April. I have in the past "spotted" L7Club member GJT's 21 parked up in Central London (he happened to be working next door to the hotel I was staying at). On one of the Se7ens List tours DH2 turned up in his green 21. Pity that the introduction of the 21 coincided with the release of the Elise. Blokko
Meant to add, the numberplate of the blue 7 on the second AutoSport pic (E1 ROB) used to sit on the SV Caterham that I just sold. Rob Spencer built and run the SV that I later went on to own - but of course he transferred his distinctive numberplate across to his blue 7 when he sold the yellow SV. 11Budlite
Beautiful car, and the prototype 21 had an aluminum body.
