Anaximander
xcarguy, I HOPE that I am of sound mind AND body to enjoy the Skyscraper coaster in 2017. We are moving to Orland this coming year for work and it will be in my back yard in a manner of speaking. Thanks for the heads up! scannon
I just added the Skyscraper to my list. Pass on the plank walk in the sky hike. I checked off two items this year, drive on the Laguna Seca track and own a V8 Miata.
xcarguy
Laguna Seca has been on my bucket list for a few years. I've walked the track twice and I took my first ride ever in a Cobra replica at that venue; it was only across the paddock, but at a rather spirited pace. Paul Hill
Terrible confession time.... We stayed overnight at Monterey last yr and never made it to the track. We flew into SFO and took a leisurely drive down the Pacific Coast Highway to LA. Had our just 16 yr old daughter with us in a rented Mustang convertible. What a blast! Hit a lot of the highlights but am sure we missed as many as we hit. Still can't believe we didn't hit the track. Where's that beating yourself up emoticon when you need him??? scannon
Another item I checked off was a really good whale watching event. I have gone on many whale watching boats but never got close enough to see any detail. On the way to Laguna Seca last summer some friends and I went whale watching in kayaks off a pier just below San Simeon. The humpback whales were doing their bubble blowing in a circle trick close to shore and we paddled out close to them. It was like a watery circus. The whales breaching and tail slapping and thousands of sea birds were flying in a huge circle around where the whales were bringing up the fish. Thousands more sitting on the water and pelicans were dive bombing all around us. It was a truly awesome event. As we headed to Monterrey we made several stops along the PCH, one to see the elephant seals lounging all over a beach. We even got in several stretches of spirited driving along the PCH. Paul Hill
Hmm.... Am realizing I never made my point in my post.... The PCH and 17 Mile Drive were on my bucket list as well as wanting to share both with Rosemarie and Stormy. Check, check, check, and check. We actually crossed a bunch off the list on that trip.... Monterey Carmel Santa Cruz Hearst Castle Pismo Beach Santa Barbara How do you not be amazed on most of that drive? Skip was so right about the wonder of seeing the elephant seals, the vistas along so much of the route. What an awesome 3 days...
CASwede
I would add along the route, not to miss a restroom break at the Madonna Inn, San Luis Obispo.
NVP66S
.......This has been added: What is/isn't on yours? There are two fatal flaws with me sharing that desire. One, I get motion sick, and two, my lizard brain recoils in horror at heights. Which is funny, as I have no problem flying small airplanes. OTOH, I have put my plane on the ground because I was too weak from motion sickness to keep flying. What IS on my list is to mod the Westie and do some traveling. scannon
I would add along the route, not to miss a restroom break at the Madonna Inn, San Luis Obispo. What he said. A real treat. Every time I have been there we had to clear the restroom and guard the door so the ladies could have a look see.
slomove
.........What IS on my list is to mod the Westie and do some traveling..... No firm plans yet, but we are wondering about a 2 week trip next June or July to Montana, Northern Idaho and maybe a short trip across the border, e.g. the International Selkirk Loop. Probably tow up 2 days to Pocatello or Twin Falls and drive from there. We usually do 150-300 mile day segments with an occasional rest day. So, if you want to go with another Seven, let me know. For that matter, if anybody is interested, send me a PM. If I hear from somebody I may start a separate thread. But we will go in any case. Don't want to compete with the Polar Bear Blat tour but I can not go at that time and that long. Edited December 29, 2014 by slomove

Croc
Well I will admit my bucket list is something like 12 pages long - painstakingly listed out on a Microsoft Word document. Clearly it shows the anal accuntant/actuary that I am. I aim to clean about third of a page each year. This year has been on target for achieving my bucket list items: - Demonstrating that I was the worst golfer to have ever ever played Pebble Beach Golf Course (and I am going back there in May 2015). I even smashed a window on the 18th hole when I found a tree ricochet into a clubhouse. - Transatlantic Crossing on the Queen Mary 2 - Exploring the Maldives - Driving a Caterham at Donnington Circuit - Realizing a 20 year goal to rehab my old Oz garage from its car contents so I can drive them in the US. - continuing to make serious in roads on my family tree project Building the ultimate garage? Well that became a #$%k-it list item in 2013 and 2014. But I have a fighting chance to tick that little puppy off in 2015. :cooldude: 2015 items include in addition to the garage project: - Driving a Caterham at Magny Cours, Dijon Prenois, Zandvoort (on top of Spa Francorchamps in March) - Getting the CSL restoration finished and on track - Getting the Holden Commodore Group A restoration finished and on track - Explore Rhone River wine region and get astoundingly pissed, drink, #$%tfaced, inebriated on some quality red wines during a river cruise. - Explore Vietnam - commence planning for my last Oz car restoration project (for completion in 2016 and import to US late that year Edited December 29, 2014 by Croc
xcarguy
Croc, why does your list seem heavily weighted toward drinking and driving?
Croc
And the problem is? Just leave your jealousy at the door! You are welcome to join me - Ask Tom how well my vacations are organized. There are Caterhams free for Magny Cours and Dijon circuit days. Dijon is a superb little circuit for Caterhams. Come on - rent one for a track day with me! :cooldude: Anyway, life is short so pack it full of big experiences.
Sean
- Demonstrating that I was the worst golfer to have ever ever played Pebble Beach Golf Course (and I am going back there in May 2015). May, eh? I'm always looking for a good excuse to grab a beer, if you're not swamped w/ business appointments during your visit. :seeya: If it is not convenient, no worries; I'm not that thin-skinned. yellowss7
You are welcome to join me - Ask Tom how well my vacations are organized. :cooldude: Mike is actually being modest here. My wife and I joined in on one of his vacations to the South Pacific. Let's just say that the private snorkeling trip in Bora Bora ended with a shore lunch on a little island with us eating grilled Lobsters, and Tuna on banana and palm leave plates, and drinking nice Champagne. Not too shabby. Travelling with Croc is first class all the way. Just bring the AMEX Black card and you will have a blast. :jester: Tom

Sean - Are you Monterey area? I am there the week of April 27- May 1 (to be confirmed) staying on Pebble Beach property for work (stop laughing people..:nopity:.). Knowing how the meetings work, Monday afternoon/night, Thursday afternoon/night would be the best options out of that week. I will have wheels so can drive off property easily. Trust me - I will be very happy to escape for a break.
Croc
Travelling with Croc is first class all the way. Come on Tom - How about you and Kathy join us wine tasting the Rhone River on a river cruise in August 2015? There is a nice cabin free and Beth is also booked on. I will pay for the first glass of wine! The "special tours" are planned for Paris and Nice, France.
