alternator?

Good morning, New to the 7 family. I purchase a 1996 Caterham with the 1600 Ford crossflow engine in July. Im in the need

of an alternator. It has a Valeo but all of the numbers don't cross to anything. Im hoping someone can help. Thanks

FWIW, a few of us on the forum (some Storker owners, in particular...and maybe others of different makes) are using the light weight Denso 55 amp alternator pirated from something such as a 1997 Geo Prism. Going forward, it may be an alternative; easy to source.

Addendum to the suave stork message

If you're looking for a direct replacement: I discovered my car was originally supplied with a NipponDenso forklift alternator.

It worked well but no one could identify it because their searches were only automotive.

This is the direct fit alternator. I am not aware of a US supplier although not too expensive even with shipping. Burton ship same day and generally delivered within a week.

Another small and lite Wt option would be the 40 Amp Denso that is fitted to a Daihatsu and Suzuki bandit.

P/N A073, also Tractor Spares Co. P/N 196300. but you would probably have to change the pulley, I'm assuming you have a "V" belt. Dave W

I took alternator to a rebuilder and he had a direct replacement. He said it was a common part to other Lotus models. I'll look to see if I can find some more helpful info.
