BlueBDA Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Showed my Se7en some love this Winter - filled pits, had rear fenders repainted, and replaced pitted stainless stone guards with carbon fiber. I was actually surprised at how heavy the stainless ones are. Improved the look of the whole car. I figure you guys are the only people I know who would appreciate this fender porn . 3
Kitcat Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 OK, so how heavy are the stainless steel guards vs. the carbon fiber guards:)?

Kitcat Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 (edited) Sounds good, no hurry, just curious. And speaking of lightness, I just weighed my stock Caterham roll-over bar: 7.5 lbs.... Edited April 11, 2022 by Kitcat
papak Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Who did you get the CF ones from? I'm contemplating the same project as mine look like crap after 5500 mi.

Mine are stock CF from Caterham with 20k miles of backroad pitting on the guards and rear fenders. I'm considering a vinyl wrap on the fenders since they're destined for more abuse and I'm hesitant to make the rest of the car match fresh paint.
mca Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Just now, Kitcat said: S3. Copy. I'm sure the SV is only marginally heavier. I'll weigh when mine comes off to replace with the FIA rollbar.
KnifeySpoony Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Don't forget some PPF on the wings to keep them looking fresh.
IamScotticus Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 (edited) PPF? Plastic Protective Film? Edited April 12, 2022 by IamScotticus
Nick OTeen Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Or "Paint Protection Film." My Caterham has PPF on the rear fenders that extends about 10 inches beyond the tops of the carbon fiber guards (which are also covered in PPF). The PPF was applied first, then the PPF-covered carbon fiber guards went on top of that. Everything looks great after many miles; no small thing given the black paint job.
IamScotticus Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 On PPF, if it is applied to bare aluminum, does the aluminum still oxidize under the surface because it is exposed to air prior to application?
vipergeek Posted June 9, 2022 Posted June 9, 2022 Did you fab the carbon fiber guards or purchase somewhere?
Nick OTeen Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Caterham sells the carbon fiber guards. https://caterhamparts.co.uk/130-protectors
