JohnCh Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 For those who missed the news, Donkervoort is officially coming to the US. With a claimed sub 1500lb weight and 400+hp Audi 2.5L turbo engine it should be reasonably rapid. And for those of you who shudder at the price of a new Caterham, look away before I mention the price before options...$240k. More here in the Autoblog article. -John
vipergeek Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Interestingly, I was just on their site yesterday. Off to the Power Ball counter!
JohnCh Posted July 15, 2022 Author Posted July 15, 2022 After checking out their options list with the Euro prices, I think a pretty sizable Powerball jackpot may be necessary. https://www.donkervoort.com/media/DKV-Donkervoort-GTO-Upgrade-List-2022.pdf -John 2
BirkinBernie Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Great, a new Se7en available in the US! With taxes, transport, options etc, a price approaching THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS?!?! Hmm, must be really great looking! Well, no. Must be really lightweight! Well, no. Must be faster than any Se7en on the planet! Well, no. Is this April 1st? 2
Croc Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 I will be curious to see how they navigated the Federal approvals process. Small low volume waiver, kit car or the full Federal compliance road. Mind you at those prices you would think you could crash test a few dummies to get Federal approvals.
JohnCh Posted July 16, 2022 Author Posted July 16, 2022 For fun -- and because I have no life -- I just went through the option list and went a little crazy, adding nearly $140k in upgrades. Assuming there is no upcharge for the options on US cars, that means I specced a $380k Donkervoort. One Powerball win may not be enough. -John
MoBoost Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Can you take the doors off? It looks big, the guys driving look like they sit very low as compared to the dash sill. It’s a lot different than a Caterham.
JohnCh Posted July 16, 2022 Author Posted July 16, 2022 Yes, I opted for that upgrade, but I did draw the line at the $1250 car cover and $950 shower cap/poncho. Even a Powerball winner needs to be a little prudent in today's economy. -John 1
MV8 Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 They must have factored in the expected inflation rate between now and delivery. How many clowns does it hold? Just kidding! Imho, good engineering from what I can see from the cheap seats.

jpslotus Posted July 16, 2022 Posted July 16, 2022 Had me at the Audi 5 cylinder. Lost me at the huge size. And ugliness. And ridiculous price. And silly options. Yea.......thats a no.

Canadian 7 Posted July 17, 2022 Posted July 17, 2022 Worth it just to say you drive a Donkervoort and people saying wtf is that?
