KnifeySpoony
Hey, compared to an atom or BAC mono, a 7 is incredibly practical.
speedwagon
yes it is. I put 800 miles on my s-1 ( 600 interstate and 200 off) and still could walk and not real tired. john

Yeh, I drove an Atom a couple years ago. It was just too raw for me. But I loved parts of it.
slowdude
I was able to commute to work a few times ~ 70 miles round trip with the weather in the mid 30s. With the roof up and the back window open and heater on, I was plenty warm. Apparently the de-dion has a deeper trunk than the live axles (I haven't compared), but I am able to store a work bag + small motorcycle tool kit + jump box + misc oil / radiator hose / gear oil and still have plenty of space in the trunk. The car is surprisingly practical. With the roof up and doors on, getting in is a bit of a challenge, but I am pretty short so it works out. Regarding visibility, the 3rd brake light is a must. I find with the roof up I still do not have the visibility I like. I picked up some awning fabric and velcro from Jo-Ann fabric last weekend. I'd like to make some 3M reflective straps which I can velcro over the rear roll bar which will provide some reflective visibility. I will probably do the same on the front cycle wings, or something of the sort as the nose visibility can be tough for the average driver. The cat 7 is maybe marginally more difficult than my Z4... at the end of the day it's a roadster, if you're used to the confines of a small coupe, you won't be as shocked. I think a lot of the commentary I watched and read online about the car being small is true, but there seems to be some hyperbole for YouTube views too.
Saudio
Welp, I skipped the entire build process and purchased a very slightly used 620S from Hillbank in LA. It was almost exactly what I was looking for, color and everything, and I didn't want to wait. I flew out last week and drove it, and made a deal I was satisfied with. Take delivery first week of March. I'm excited as hell. Just in time for Spring driving. :-)

IamScotticus
Pictures? You did it right. skipping all the anguish, missing parts, knashig of teeth, and got a runner to start doing what the 7 seven was meant for. A selfie magnet. KnifeySpoony
Awesome, congrats. Look into the 620 overcooling issues on blatchat. There is a fix.

One it was insane like insane speed, two shifting with my left made me super nervous. But holy shit the speed! congrats buddy.

Thanks for the heads up. I did some reading. Do you know if there are specific parameters that would tell me if I have that problem with my car, that is, a temperature range that is out of spec? I read that Caterham had a fix that they were charging 1000 pounds for but that seems a bit cheeky if it is a known issue. I'll be sure to address this before completing the paperwork. My wife bought me a racing wheel and shifter for Christmas. It was the base Logitech at the time. While not anywhere close to driving a car in real life, mounting the shifter on the left side really helped with muscle memory for the H pattern, I found my 2 - 3 shift really improved after using the sim wheel and shifter. It's really not that bad, and RHD is a little wierd for left hand turns with an SUV next to you, but just be patient, like riding a motorcycle etc. 1
MV8
The overcooling was news to me, but I'm not on Blat. I did "a little" research. The issue as I understand it is the 620 warms up normally but once racing or running hard (i.e. hot revs), the stat can't close against the coolant pressure. Fit a tee to the upper hose that will connect to a heater hose fitting on the engine, then install a spring loaded check valve (pressure relief) that only flows when the pressure exceeds 12 or so psi, to bypass the thermostat. There should be no downside.
KnifeySpoony
My understand is that based on the way the cooling is plumbed, the thermostat is open all the time. Tweaking the plumbing by adding a bypass loop solves the issue.
