IamScotticus
Really wanting to be rid of the speedo cable, drive gears, adapters, etc. So the VDO must go. There are some speedos that work with a variety of inputs, hall effect, proximity, GPS, etc. Leaning towards Racetech because, I like green. It seems to be a decent unit with options. But Im not finding much technical info available for it. Wanting combo sub guages to have an extra hole for an AFR. Only downside to Racetech is I don't see an electric oil pressure guage in the set, just tube type. If that is a negative. Still have time to shop. Any suggestions? 11Budlite
I wanted to match the Stack Classic gauges (WT, OP, Fuel, Volt) with a nearly identical looking Tach and Speedo and went with Speedhut. The Speedo is a GPS unit and has worked flawlessly so far. You can configure the gauges with different faces, bezels, needles, lighting, etc, to get look you're after. Sorry for the crappy photo.
MV8
Many different options for full sets on ebay as well for $150 or less. I would not hesitate to use a capillary OP if the capillary is standard kit and separate (so a capillary issue does not mean tossing the gauge for new). I see India selling knock-off Massey Ferguson and Smiths full gauge sets for $45 while the triple gauge, under dash sets that have been around since the '70s are now $100 or more. For appearance and protection, the white nylon capillary tube can be run in split loom or aluminum versa tube. 7Westfield
I went Racetech for tach + speedo using Autometer mechanical for the rest, mostly cause I like full sweep faces Burton does show a n elec racetech OP unit, but calibrated in bars
toldfield
I bought a Smiths GPS speedo after I neglected to hook up the cable to the transmission. It was far less trouble than pulling the engine again just to hook it up. It matches the original gauges and actually works.
FE07
I have a Speedhut speedometer as well and have had it for 7 years without any issues. I put the wire for my antenna thorough the center hole in the scuttle used for the wiper washer. Has a digital gauge at the bottom that allows for measuring 0-60 times, has a clock, altimeter and digital speed. Works well!
toldfield
The Smiths doesn't do anything but speed, trip meter, and total miles. Maybe should have done the Speedhut. I put the antenna in the nose because it is kind of ugly. The signal has no trouble coming through the fiberglass and the length of the cable didn't matter.
Stevensonjr
I put in a GPS Smiths speedo to match my other instruments. UK customer contact was by email and every question I had on the installation was answered within 24 hours. I put the antenna under the soft boot cover, works well. I bought it thru Nisonger instruments in New York
IamScotticus
I wish those new Smiths Chronometrics were reasonable.
Stevensonjr
Sort of spendy, but I wanted the panel to match. Not much choice with Smiths.
