Butter25
Hello all, I inherited this seven replica with 1971 Triumph Spitfire running gear. Seems like the engine, suspension, rear axle, and brakes are all spitfire, although it does have a 5 spd. It has no documentation and I can't find any kind of manufacturer's mark on it. Googling about it seems like maybe a "Locust"? Does anyone know what I have, it runs but has all the usual little British car issues I need to sort out, but curious to know who made the kit or any other info I can find on it. It was bought off EBAY a few years back.
MV8
That is adorable. No idea on the kit mfg. Any pics of the rear axle/suspension/boot well?
Croc
I remember that being for sale in the weekly classifieds list. It was always described as a replica Lotus 7. No idea beyond that.
panamericano
Nice tilting bonnet. BTY, Locost, as in Low Cost. If it was a kit, I would expect someone here to recognize some detail.
Butter25
Here is the rear axle and suspension, looks like a spitfire axle to me.
fastg
It's not a Locost, the door sill is sloped with an upturn at the front. It also has a transverse leaf spring with a single trailing arm. Actually that looks like the back end of Spitfire chassis. Neat looking car, you will have fun. Graham
MV8
Looks to be a complete spitfire frame and suspension with a bolt-on body. Spitfire fuel tank and filler also.
MoBoost
I recall a person I knew in Jamestown, NY making a Spitfire based “Seven” like car. This would have occurred in the late ‘80s. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos and it’s been quite a while. I see that he died in 2018.
Butter25
Thanks for all the responses, fairly certain it’s one of these that seems to have gone through multiple generations and dealers. The windshield frame matches most of the pictures and other things seem similar if not identical. https://www.locust.org.uk/about/about.htm
IamScotticus
Those wheels. You have no idea how hard it would be to find them in the wild.
