Reason
Well maybe I should introduce myself since some other people have. My name is Geran, age 25 (26 in June) and I currently reside in the Washington DC area. I am a government contractor working in DC doing application development. I've always wanted a Seven ever since first laying eyes on them when I was 16 in a magazine brought back from the UK. Hopefully soon I can build my own or maybe get one already built. I am currently looking at two cars: ~Birkin S3 (built Duratec motor, sequantial gearbox and carbon fibre bits) ~MK Indy BEC (Yamaha R1 or Hayabusa powered) Alittle background about myself: ~been karting for around 12yrs ~raced rx7 at the from 16-18 with my stepfather ~currently crew chief for my friend during his race weekends ~owned over 20 cars since the age of 16 ranging from original rx7s to a built first gen Subaru Impreza
qvdriver
The Mini is not mine. I once thought of getting an original mini after a friend was pushing one on me. A Mini would have fit next to the 7 in basically the same space. An original mini measures 4 x 8 and with wheel dollies I figured it could be pushed into a corner. Unfortunately the car does not turn me on. Other then Jags and Lotuses, I prefer German and Italian metal.
Boxologist
My name is Sandy, I have a 1970 series 3 right hand drive Lotus 7 located on Long Island. I have had the car now about 5 years. The car has a 1700cc Ford Kent with dual webbers. When the webbers are in tune the car screams. The fun with this car is the oil pan is 2.5" off the road. I have changed the oil pan already once either caused by a pot hole or once getting stuck on a speed bump. I have other cars but this car is the most fun to drive especially on hilly twisty roads. I try to stay off 4 laned highways. I get spooked when a SUV passes me and I know there is no way he can see me. The other issue is the local highway surfaces are rough. My car has trouble going over 60 mph. Between the car bouncing and my teeth chattering I just can not make it over 60. On asphalt roads 75 -80 is easy to maintain with my 4 speed. welcome to the site Sandy. i was actually looking for ur email address a couple of months ago:conehead: so no luck w/ the 5 speed conversion. Sandy's story about the car's history is actually pretty interesting. all se7ens have lots of 'flavor'. hope u can make it out to any of this season's drives. leeper
Suppose I should have started posting here but when I started posting was before I became an owner. My name is Calvin, I'm 41 and married with a 6 yr old son and a daughter on the way. Originally from Mt. View CA, Trans planted to NC by way of USAF and marriage. My first ride in a Seven was when I was twelve and the itch had returned. I bought an S2000 6 years ago and though I've had a lot of fun with it, that itch was still there nagging at me. I've been looking at building a Westfield for about three years now and I started talking to Tom at Manik Technologies about six months ago. He was great in showing me all of my different options but I kept starting with a Megabusa kit and ending up with something else at 2-3 times the price (not Tom's fault, mine). I stumbled onto this site and stumbled again in finding this thread. I spoke to Jeff and a few months later we met (each with trailers). I've spent the last couple weeks getting to know the car and all that I'm sure of at this point is that this is an affair that is going to last a long time! The S2000 sits right next to it in the garage, is now called the "wifes car" and looks like it is prepared for winter. Thank you to all who helped me through this acquisition, especially Jeff who kept this thing immaculate and bent over backwards to make sure that I got the car! slngsht
Calvin, That's a beautiful car. And yes, most of our other toys suffer from the same extended winter syndrome after a seven arrives in the garage.

dvl
Hi, This is great forum you have here. My name is Dave and I'm a mechanical engineer living in Pasadena, CA. I've been researching and considering the purchase of a Seven for many years, but had not found the right car until a few months ago. A friend of mine recently comissioned Arch Manufacturing in the UK build two new Seven kits (chassis, body work, suspension, etc) to 1965 S2 specifications, with assorted Caterham and other upgrades/improvements. For the past few months I've been sanding and polishing the body, planning out the project, and aquiring additional parts. I hope to have it on the road late this year. The car will predominantly look like a Lotus 7 S2, but will be powered by a 2.0L Zetec with carbs. Anyway, I expect this site will be a great resource to me, as this project progresses. How do I become a paying member? I searched around the site and didn't see a link....it's not beyond me to miss the obvious some times, however . slngsht
welcome aboard. S2 with Zetec will make a very classy and capable combo. as for becoming a paid member, you can do so by clicking on UserCP, then scrolling down and clicking "Paid Subscriptions". slomove
Hello Dave, welcome from another Seven owner in Pasadena (near Huntington Dr./San Gabriel Blvd). If you want to come along sometimes to meet and see the car send me PM. Make sure to visit http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com for local activities. We are considering a short road trip next weekend (not sure yet) if you are interested. Gert
Ruadhd2
Hi. I just bought what I have been told is Rotus #3. I am the third owner. It only has 10,800 miles on it but needs electrical, paint, upholstery work done. The engine, clutch and drivetrain are great. It just need to be cleaned up and sorted out. I see there is at least one other Rotus owner on this site. I am a 67 year-old psychologist (semi-retired) and jazz drummer, who has always wanted a 7 replica and now I have it with all the assorted challenges related to it. I'm still excited about the project. I bought it from Dan Owens, who some of you might know. So, I am anxious to learn about where to get 7 accessories and parts and gizmos. Here's pics he sent me: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/sredir?uname=DanODNC&target=ALBUM&id=5456373475143790593&authkey=Gv1sRgCNrYs4zZ487MjgE&invite=CO-Hu7YN&feat=email
slngsht
Hi, Did your car arrive already? If it's in running condition, we should get together and compare some notes. You are in luck, as the only mechanic who was on the original Rotus team is only an hour away from DC. Welcome aboard.

Ruadhd2
I am Stephan "Steve" Silverman. I am a clincal psychologist who is retired after a 30 year career with a school system, and I manage a small private practice of psychologists and do public speaking on Asperger's syndrome, ADHD, and Meditation. I am also a professional jazz drummer and play in groups around the Washington,DC metro area. I fell in love with Lotus 7's when in my early twenties watching them pass Ferraris at Marlboro Raceway in Maryland. Everyone was rooting for the Lotuses and they often won. My other favorite car was the MG-TF. I have owned over 45 cars. My dad, who recently passed, owned more than 75 cars, but rarely at the same time. I generally keep a car less than two years, except for the family SUV. My daily driver is a 2001 BMW M3 convertible. When I bought the Rotus I had no idea what a project was in my future. I love driving the car, but it is very much a hung-together rattle trap at this point. Fortunately, my brother is an engineer and has built a Factory Five Cobra Daytona coupe and helps me a lot. Other forum members have been very helpful in my initiation to the world of 7's, especially Rob Mitchell. Looking forward to the journey.
