I have a buddy driving over from Chicago to Carlisle PA for the Ford Nationals show June 6-8. His car is an immaculate Merkur XR4TI. Just outside Chicago is a Merkur specialist shop. My friend is already picking up some parts to drop at Carlisle. The Merkur originally came with a T9, but they often get swapped for a T5. I am sure Jeff at Merkur Parts Midwest has a few stashed away. So if you can make a deal we can get it to NJMP for the 7 event. Contact Jeff at https://blugg.tripod.com/

I know I have only had one coffee but what are you trying to say Graham?    You are seemingly responding to someone but I do not see what the original question is?

Also not every car today can just take a regular T9.  A regular T9 is good up to about 200hp.  Over that you really need to have it built heavy duty for reliability and even then the limit is about 250hp.  Not many sevens have below 200hp with the current range of engine options.

The T5 you mention is a great choice but will not fit in a Caterham.  Not sure about Westfields?  Definitely cannot in a Birkin regular chassis but not sure about their wide chassis?

Thank you for the link to a US supplier that comes recommended - quality gearbox specialists are so hard to come by.

The website is woefully outdated. I also got what appeared to be an invitation to install a few viruses. So be sure your antivirus software is up to date before clicking!

Here's an email address gleaned from the website: blugg@msn.com

Google yielded a phone number: (847) 688-1234

I was not responding to a specific post, but I have seen posts in the past looking for T9 parts. I can confirm the phone number is correct (847) 688 1234. If your looking for a complete T9 trans, your going to have to sweet talk Jeff, he is a pack rat, constantly saving parts for concurs restorations. Any deal needs to be done by Saturday, that is when my friend is picking up some other parts to ferry over to Carlisle.

Love the XR4TI, really a Ford Sierra, but it came with the shitty 2.3 Pinto Turbo motor. After screwing with that piece of junk we put a built 302 V8 in the car. Now it's a fun drive.

Graham,

Did the Sierra cars in England come with LSD?

I have been told that the diff in my de Dion 1700 Super Sprint is from a Ford Sierra.  If I remember, I can shoot pix on Sunday.

I was told that the car came from Caterham to a UK buyer as a Complete Kit.

I was also told my car has a plate-type LSD, which seems to be true.  I was wondering if Caterham:

bought both open and LSD diffs from Ford or Ford's supplier?

or

bought Sierra open diffs and Caterham themselves installed LSD units for buyers who had checked that option?

Let me know if this needs its own thread.  I tend to cause thread-drift...

The Sierra was not an expensive car, your typical salesman's company car. From the basic car up to the Cosworth RS500 that won the European Turing Car Championship. I am sure the base car did not have an LSD. I think the car we built has used the stock Sierra LSD a Supra diff and currently a BMW dif.

I just checked an none on the XR4TI's came with an LSD.

I think the guy who originally bought my car liked the Prisoner Special Edition, but also liked the Cosworth RS, so ordered it painted Ford Moonstone Blue, which I kept on the aluminum parts.

So is it possible the LSD on my car is a Cosworth RS unit?

So your Seven originally had a Sierra LSD diff. Why did you make the changes?  Increased horsepower over time?

Unlikely I will build power past 200 on the Zetec/T9 combo I got from Steve's Birkin.

This post has nothing to do with my car. Just a link to a possible T9 source. My car runs a first gen RX7 solid axle.
