That guitar is a thing of beauty! What brand/model is it? That picture brought to mind those posters of a Ferrari, a violin and a beautiful woman.

 

The only way for me to avoid upgradeitis is to sell all my vehicles and walk.

It's a Paul Reed Smith McCarty Hollowbody II (long name). PRS, as they are known, build their guitars near Annapolois, and are know for their quality and playability. I used to have a really early model, but sold it years ago to make some mortgage payments :cry: - that model is now highly collectable :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I like your upgradeitis avoidance strategy. Mine is very similar: By pure coincidence, today I received the first photos of the finished custom cornet that several years ago I had commissioned master brass instrument maker Robb Stewart in California to build for me. He will be sending the horn up to me tomorrow.

 

This cornet is a combination B-flat/high E-flat rotary valve cornet with both a conventional bell and an echo bell that can be selected to function in either key. Since Robb had built a slightly similar one one for another player a few years ago (that had the same concept but not the refinement), we dubbed this one the "Improved Duplexcho." The photos show the level of pure craftsmanship that can go into a one-off like this.

 

No problem in tracking the money that might have otherwise gone to Seven upgrades!

I meant to mention (obligatory car content) that Robb Stewart, the master craftsman who built my custom cornet, is an old-car enthusiast and restorer owns a 1912 Hupmobile touring car, and who recently completed the restoration of his rare 1914 EMF Speedster, which looks like it must have been the "Seven" of its time -- see photo.

Your cornet reminds me of the nickle-plated Seven for sale now on E-bay, as mentioned in the for-sale section of this site.

 

My particular strategy for remaining poor: Three boys, two in college, one in grad school. I am paying full freight for all three.

 

In all honesty, there is nothing I'd rather spend my money on , even cars (tho I know that may get me banned from this group:)).

still have my mellow silver yamaha. (mary played alto sax)

Wow this thing though looks simply exquisite!

i would love to hear it..i guess i am behind the times but the echo bell simply looks bizarre..wow..it must have a cool sound.

i wonder if that aluminum polish i am using might get the finish on the old yamaha all nice again? lol

Tom that is beautiful and I suspect is worth more than my 7 by a long long shot.

I learned (attempted) to play a cornet in grade school and through high school but have not played one in years. My kid brother wound up with my horn which his sons have learned to play as my brother did.

Again Very Nice.
