kitmfgr
Yeh, Kit Car Builder did a fantastic job on that article, can't say the same for Sept. Car and Driver, it was all about the writer and his Nissan, but they do have a photo of Kevin's car lined up in order after the race and Kevin and Mechelle got mentioned a bit. :7drive:
locostv8
Now that there are a few miles on the car do you think the Lizard skin helped with temps?
7evin
It seems to help quite a bit. I would say it is good for 20 to 30 degrees. I have not taken measurements. Cheers 7evin
locostv8
That sounds like it was worth the trouble/cost.
7evin
Mojito's new power plant arrived today fresh from Master Speed Blaster Kenny Tran ! (JOTECH) Via UPS / Hilly Billy back woods express. (I live in the middle of nowhere and The UPS truck can't get here from there... ) See attached pic Her new heart beat is strokin it with new Golden Eagle Godzilla sleeves, O-ringed Block, 9.5- 1 compression ratio, Arias pistons that are Ceramic top coated and moly side skirts and Pauter rods. Kenny builds these motors for the drag strip to handle 800 hp at the crank. We are shooting for somewhere around 22 to 24 psi out of the super charger and hoping we get 550 to 600 to the wheels. Like any of that will be usable below 100 mph.... Previously we were running about 12 to 13 psi making 387 hp at the wheels. Had the Diff Cryoed and REM polished. Lets hope that will be enough to keep it together. Cheers 7evin

Mondo
OMG! You'll need to put that thing in a wind tunnel to work on downforce! Maybe time to add a full cage so you can put a big midget outlaw wing on top of it;)
7evin
You're outa control  I hear that rather often... along with your crazy, you've lost your mind, what the hell are you thinking, you may need to seek help for theses issues, you are completely insane to drive that thing.... The list goes on.... I was OK for a very long time, had this issue under control .... until my dear friend Loren introduced me to these cars.... Of course he does not discouage this type of behavior..... IE.. Hey loren what do you think about putting JATO assit rockets on mojito for more straight away speed.... (Loren) " Man Kev that is a great idea, we can mount them at a 15 degree angle and also get more down force" Ahh... You only live once might as well have a good 7 at it.... 7evin
OMG! You'll need to put that thing in a wind tunnel to work on downforce! Maybe time to add a full cage so you can put a big midget outlaw wing on top of it;) We have been talking with some people in north carolina about just that. Business is slow for them, so Mark Davia (5 time winner of the OLA) and us are talking about splitting a day in the tunnel. I was considering a full roll cage with a wing on top..... But I'm thinking that money might be better invested in a ejection seat..... How is that beautiful black beast of yours doing? 7evin
Well after waiting 4 months ATI has finally delivered the only set of 8 grove pulleys for a Honda S-2000 on the planet... Or so I'm told. I just hope everything fits like it is supposed to... I don't think I could stand to wait another 4 months.... Even the boxes look good to me after waiting for them so long.... Water pump pulley 2 idler pulleys alternator pulley the Harmonic damper and pulley and the (ARE) dry sump pulley on top of the harmonic damper. Edited August 30, 2009 by 7evin . Mondo
Can't wait to hear about the build! Any custom bracketry/parts from your current set up you won't be needing;) I'm finally getting used to the car, eliminated some squeaks, rattles & had it on Buttonwillow raceway! I'll have to take off the big windshield if I want any top speed though. Putting on an exhaust heatshield next week. Last thing to really fix is making a bigger opening on top of the fuel tank, for access, and putting in a good fuel box thingy(?) to keep gas near the fuel pump. Took my daughter's boyfriend for a ride today and he took his video camera. The guy was amped up when we got home! He's making a little something to put on Youtube shortly. Poor kid, he was embarrassed that he hit the pause instead of record on some of the more "entertaining" bits of road. I'll let you guys know when it's up. 7evin
Yes we do have spare brackets. We had 3 sets made just in case one broke during the one lap and so WestTex had a set for his car. If you decide you really want to go that route I'll send you a set and you can have them duplicated. I bet you had a blast at Buttonwillow, That is such a fun track. Can't wait to see the video. I am trying to find time to start getting this thing back together. Here are a few pic from the little bit of time I had to work on it today. The new damper is much larger in diameter and collides with the new water pump pulley. so it goes back to ATI for some mods You can see the the ARE dry sump oil pan in these pics. Mondo
Thanks Kevin, It'll definately be while before I can afford it but nice to know I won't have to re-invent the wheel. I assume you decided on the dry sump after your "how to JB weld an oilpan" class at Buttonwillow;)
7evin
That was one of the reasons.... Got to love JB weld ! (If you know anyone who needs 2 new oil pans let me know) The biggest reason was because these little beast when set up correctly and on sticky tires can pull well over 1.5 g's of lateral acceleration. Honda never planed on the S2000 to come close to that. We think that was a contributing factor that caused us to loose the motor at Run-n-Gun last year. So after spending money rebuilding we thought it was money well spent to resolve this issue before we ended up back in the same boat. This will also allow us to lower the car 1 to 1.5 inches giving us a lower CG. Faster, lower, stronger, better.... We'll call it the "Bionic Mojito" Cheers 7evin Edited September 1, 2009 by 7evin . 7evin
Hey guys. Just wanted to do an update. We have been laboring away trying to get ready for the up and coming Texas mile. Just finished plumbing the dry sump today. 23 feet of AN 12 hose ! I could not believe it. 16 AN12 hose fittings and 17 AN12/10 to O-ring boss and NPT fittings. Got a really good deal on the fittings and the hose from BAT http://www.batinc.net/mocal-central.htm Their prices were really good and the quality is also good. I would love to use nothing but Aeroquip or XRP, but I can't justify spending $3000 on fittings. Although I do have some Aeroquip and XRP fittings on the car. I really like the way XRP does their Clockable 90 degree AN to AN fittings. Very small radius 90's. As we all know every square centimeter under the hood of a 7 is precious. I think we spend the most time just trying to figure out where and how to get things to fit. XRP has a downloadable PDF catalog that is fantastic. http://www.xrp.com/
7evin
Here is a good resource for finding air filters of odd sizes. http://www.knfilters.com/search/univ2.aspx?ID=S0005 Also If you call K&N they are very helpful. They will be happy to calculate all your parameters and tell you how many CFM your powerplant uses and what filter will work for you. For us it was 947 CFM..... Yeah..... thats more than my 7.3 diesel. Here is a website for engine design calculations. http://www.ajdesigner.com/phpengine/engine_equations_volumetric_efficiency.php also automotive calculators http://www.csgnetwork.com/automotiveconverters.html We had to order the largest flat panel filter K&N makes. (22"x7") Now we have figure out how to make it fit.... Edited September 6, 2010 by 7evin
