Best Seven picture ever?

Recommended Posts

The local group went to Malibu/Santa Monica Mountains and I finally paid my dues to the photographer lurking on Mulholland Highway:

Gert, are those new mirrors? I don't recall those on the car in Monterey.

-John

Yes, in Monterey I still had the chrome tripod-bullet mirrors. They looked O.K. but I had them for many years and wanted something different, wider with better view.

This is for now a prototype. I have to make another version that allows to better adjust the ball joint friction.

I am also not sure if I like the color-matching yellow paint or better paint them just black. Any opinion?

Gert-make em chrome or black. As is, it's kinda like wearing a yellow hat to match your car, it starts to get too cute-IMHO. (and it is humble).

Lowcost: Wow! Yours is among my favorite se7em photos from this thread of amazing photos.

Rod, fabulous picture!

Where was that about? We are going to Oregon for a Thanksgiving mini vacation (not with the Se7en, though).

Mike, I think you expressed what bothered me already about the color. In a way it fits but it is not in the character of a Se7en. Kind of "Pimp my Ride" ?

Slomove What coating are using for your rock chip guards on your rear fenders?

It is not a coating. It is 1/16" solid EPDM rubber. E.g. McMaster Carr #8610K2 with adhesive backing 12" x 24" for $9 a sheet. If you keep it only to the single curved outer surface it is a simple stick-on solution, easy to replace and extremely tough. A little rub with ArmorAll makes it deep shiny black.

For better protection I used a wider sheet and wrapped it around the edge. But I had to cut some segments in this area to conform and edge trim to hold it down.

This is one of my favorites of the Westfield. It was taken during this summer’s tour from Monterey and has a back story that elevates the photo for me. Towards the end of our first day on the road, we were flagged down by a Jetta whose driver had been keeping pace for a few miles. It turns out the passenger (the kid in the photo) was a huge se7en fan. Although he knew all about the cars, he had never been in one and had convinced his mom, who was behind the wheel, to keep us in sight. Mom caught us at an intersection and before I could take off from the stop sign, the kid jumped out of the car and was excitedly trying to engage us in conversation. Eventually he worked up the courage to ask if one of us could take him for a quick 5 minute ride. He was so enthusiastic and genuine about the whole thing, I said sure and took him for a 10 mile drive down some great twisties. He knew the road well and was playing co-driver by calling out upcoming potholes and areas where there is usually a lot of slip inducing crud on the road – gotta love a passenger who contributes ;-) This picture was taken at the end of that little blat. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t have a se7en of his own someday.

Wonderful shot John.

I love giving kids a drive. They live in a world of minivans and its fun to show them what the joy of driving is really about! My 9 year old son always has a good giggle in my car.

PS - are those 205/60/13s on the front?
