breezy7
I was on the Caterham UK site yesterday and there was an announcement of Caterham USA launching a new website. There was a link in the announcement but it does not work. The address is www.caterham-usa.com but that drew a blank for me too. Any one been to the new USA site? Seems that now the USA and UK are using the same engines more Caterham models will be imported. I know the the Rocky Mountain Sportscars site had listed more models recently but I don't remember them making any announcement of the additions, the new models just showed up. Warning to Crossflow owners, the UK announcement says that Americans will now not be stuck with "antiquated engines".
Boxologist
we'll see how much of that info is really solid. Parts are handled on an inquiry basis. no other dealers listed. probably just under construction. I hope.

bsimon
Looks as though it's just a new website for Caterham USA with a different URL. All the contact info is the same as it's been for the last 5 or so years. The new domain name is registered to Caterham Cars GB and not Caterham USA. The old site is still HERE www.uscaterham.com
soareyes
From the new web site: Caterham Cars Ltd and Caterham USA is pleased to announce the launch of the new Caterham USA website www.caterham-usa.com. The website has been mutually developed by both parties as they work together to re-launch Caterham and the new model range in the US. For the first time in more than two decades Caterham enthusiasts will be able to experience the same power and performance that has only been available to the UK market. Until now State side Caterham owners have had to settle for the outdated Ford X-Flow and more recently Ford Zetec engines, while the UK market received exciting new products. With the release of the Ford Duratec packages developed in house by Caterham Power Train (CPT), the US market now has access to all the latest Caterham engine options. The CPT Duratecs offer fantastic levels of performance, reliability and enjoyment that complement the character of the Seven’s legendary chassis perfectly. With options spanning from the base 170bhp to the mighty 263bhp engine package, the CPT Duratec offers a performance level to suit a variety of requirements and budgets. The introduction of these engine package options, allows previously unavailable models to be released into the US market. The Superlight R500 has long been the supercar slaying weapon of choice in the UK. Utilizing the top of the range 263bhp CPT Duratec, the R500 combines the legendary Seven chassis with mind bending acceleration, allowing the US market to fully come to terms with what a Seven is truly capable of. For more information on the Caterham product line now available in the US visit the Showroom section or contact Caterham USA. The Showroom section has prices in dollars too. JohnCh
I’m curious about the 170hp spec Duratec. It isn’t shown on the UK site. I wonder if that is a US-only engine, or if the website announcement revealed a little more information that CC UK intended? -John
par
I got this e-mail last week Caterham USA is excited to announce that their entire line of cars is now based on the same factory developed Duratec drive train packages as the UK market. This includes the stunning new Caterham Superlight R400 and the “Weapons Grade” Superlight R500. The R400 has been a perennial “best track day car” winner in many UK automotive magazines and is described as the “perfect balance of handling and power.” The first left hand drive R400 is here in Denver . We are just finishing the registration process and it will be on the road and on its way to complete road tests with all the major automotive magazines in the US . Look for articles featuring this gorgeous Titanium Silver R400 on the newsstand just after the New Year. In the last few months Caterham has released the new R500. The press has been wild about it in the UK . Caterham USA CEO Jon Nelson took a test ride in the first UK press car a few months ago and reports back that this is defiantly the fastest Seven he has ever been in. Not only is it fast he says, but totally drivable, with loads of torque anywhere in the rpm range. With 263 bhp, 528 bhp/ton and 0-60mph in 2.88 seconds, the numbers show that the new R500 is the quickest accelerating street legal car in the world. UK customer right hand drive cars are currently in production. Caterham USA has the first left hand drive R500 ordered and scheduled for build in January 2009. As soon as the first car gets here, it will be headed out to prove to the press that if they thought the R400 was quick, they haven’t seen anything yet! We have one or two build slots left in the January batch. So if you want to be the first to have the quickest Caterham ever get your order in now! Below is a link to an article featuring the R500, there are some fantastic photos! If you are interested in learning more about the US Caterham line-up, or have any questions, please feel free to contact us here at Caterham USA . Alaskossie
Par, Interesting -- Ben Wofford is now listed as being a part of "Caterham USA." I had understood that Cody Story was with Caterham USA, and Ben was with Rocky Mountain Sportscars, a Caterham USA dealer (although located right next door to Caterham USA in Denver, sharing the same building.....). I wonder what grade of fuel the R500 is tested with in UK (with 263 claimed hp from a 2.0 Duratec), and what this engine will produce in the USA, where the Cosworth 2.3 Duratec produces 250 hp (as opposed to the UK's 260 claimed hp for this same engine in the CSR)? We should have some interesting reading from American car mags in a few months...the British magazines have been flogging the R500 with joyful abandon, and the new Performance Car magazine promised to print the result in this month's issue (September?) of its attempt to duplicate CC's claim of 2.88 seconds for 0-60 mph. But the promised test didn't appear. Alaskossie

pksurveyor
BAD timing. When I bought my 03 Caterham, the Zetec SVT was not available. Now my 09 Caterham is just about ready for delivery, the Duretec has became available. I think my Zectec SVT with Kent cam and light flywheel should be more or less equal to the R400. bball7754
I spoke with Ben about 3 weeks ago, and this topic came up. As I understood it, the change to using the Duratec did away with the need for Caterham USA and RMSCI to be separate. RMSCI couldn't sell you the engine (and tranny?) because it would violate the US reg's (essentially selling you a complete car, which would require compliance with federal safety standards - and probably other things), which is why Caterham USA had the engine program. The plan now is to have customers buy the Duratec directly from Ford. At least, that's the gist of what I took away from our conversation. Andrew
Great News in my opinion and about time we had a newer generation of engines available. Now I will not feel so bad about letting the Rover engined car go. Now where is that piggy bank, time to count my pennies i think.
