Hours/money spent this year?

Recommended Posts

OK, there is a thread asking how many miles driven thus far.

How about a different measure of Seven love/devotion: money & time. Unlike the previous 2 years, when I was trying to bankrupt myself on my Seven, I am comfortable reporting:

$o so far on maintenance/improvements, and zero time spent fixing/improving things.

I know I have set the bar pretty low, can anyone beat those numbers:) (Hopefully your wives don't read this).

Being the first year with the SR27... my $ per smiles is higher than yours! :)

Improvements:

- Fan controller 125$

- Seats 1000$

- Roll cage 2500$

- Custom made top 500$

Repairs:

- Fuel pump (had a spare one)

- AFM connector 40$

all that in cheap canadian money!

The summer is still young tho! :)

Again first year of ownership here as well.

I had upgradeitus from day one I`m afraid, I already knew what parts needed fitting as soon as I went to see the car, and as such gave myself a very loose budget - something which I now regret.

However

( I will try my best at converting this to dollars, please bear with me)

Cost of car - £5000 ($7,741.80)

Complete rebuild of front suspension - £1500 ($2,323.05)

New rad and fan assy - £150 ($232.148)

New rear dampers - £200 ($309.405)

Rear roll over bar (UK race spec) - £250 ($386.831)

new cycle wings - £100 - ($154.543)

misc items ( paints and stuff) - £200 ($309)

Adding that up, I will not get my money back should I sell it, however I don`t intend to.

Time spent around 2 months.

Dont mind the wife reading this

I`m not married :D:p

Replaced a fuse holder for the main power relay $3.00

Other than that, fuel.

I've only done about 150 miles as my hay fever has been the worst and it's so early in the year.

If this keeps up, my season will stop in august

I have a running tab at NAPA Autoparts. I told the clerk when I get over $100,000 they will give me a name tag that says "Co-owner" of the store. hahaha

lets see...

200$ on the reworked flywheel.

130$ on the new clutch.

about 120$ on new seals and gaskets.

new dash clock for 20$, clock velcro 3$..(will also use on boat).

new header wrap at 30$

about 3$ on some new breather hoses.

30$ on wax and polish.

new headlight bulb and new tailight bulbs. whatever those cost.

not fair to count regular maintenance and petrol..

we have about 300+ miles on it this year.

unless something breaks... or we find some outrageous great deal on something we need/want, we are good to go.

I think I would either cry or puke if I calculated the money spent per mile right now. Hopefully I get her certified today and the ratio can drastically change. Right now, I feel like I'm the guy at work that spent $7500 to go hunting last year, and I didn't see a damn deer. :D

Hank, I know exactly how you feel. Took me 2 months to get the State happy enough to let me have a title and tags. Up until my car was legal I kept very acurate records of expenses. Since the car has been street legal, I just throw the receipts in the box. It is ALOT more fun to drive than do paperwork. My wife knows of the total outlay thru tags. Now I just tell her we needs some "Improvements". As she never passes on a chance to go riding with me, I get no complaints for these "Improvements". Just ordered a set of wire wheels and tires for the rear ($1800) and got no hassle from her. Life is good. Jim

I don't keep track, the receipts go in a drawer.

However I just received a new Soft Bits for Sevens half hood and half doors yesterday. A little over $300 for both delivered across the pond via DHL.

Took the first drive with the half hood this AM. It cuts down the buffeting of the left ear to a very acceptable level. More than I was expecting. :)

OTOH, getting out of the car is more difficult with my bad shoulder but that will improve with time. Getting in is not a problem.

I do smell the rear exit exhaust a bit more at certain speeds with the half hood on.

I kept a running list of expenses for the first 2 or 3 years of ownership. But after some major upgrades (EFI/Emerald/cams/head work/tranny, LSD, wheels/tires/tons of small parts and material etc.) I noticed the scary bottom line number just diminished the fun.

Nowadays I just buy what I think I need and can afford, throw the receipts away (if not warranty) and am much happier.

Like Gert I quit keeping track of the costs of owning my 7 several years ago as it is a toy for me and a way for me to relax so expense is not a big issue all though my wife has made a couple of comments when she was looking at some of my expenses for tax reasons about why I bought so many engines and parts for the 7 (two complete engine rebuilds since Aug 08 first engine lasted 66.4 mils, second new engine is still going strong [actually the third engine for the car]). So as long as my wife dose not complain and I have a good time then it really does not matter I would say. (:>)

damn. I'll try to not post in this thread every day. yesterday Frankn7 overheated in unusually HEAVY traffic. This is not normal, as even with the V8, she has no trouble keeping it cool even in the hotest days.

so... I determined it was a failed electric fan, which is blowing the fuse. Sad... the fan, radiator, and headlight brackets are the only original Rotus parts left. Well, new fan is installed tonight, and she's ready to go again.
