Trouble with a capital "T" and that rhymes with "C" which stands for Caterham!

Far out, Craig! Looks like you've got this little beastie in the performance stratosphere! And you really want to let her go?

Can you tell me what you've done or do when it comes to getting parts for the Vauxhall? That's a bit of a rarity as I'm sure you're aware. You don't have a corner shop where everything's on the shelf, do you? Are there enough specialty shops around that would have most anything you might need for the engine? My cursory 'Net search is giving pretty much only UK shops..

Robb,

I don't have any "spare" parts lying around and frankly, I've never tried to source them stateside. But the world is an amazingly small place these days and I've communicated with QED in the U.K. on numerous occasions and they assure me that anything needed for the motor is on-the-shelf in-house or could be sourced by them within a matter of days. I was originallly a bit leery of the car for this same reason (unknowns relating to the motor) but can tell you that the people at QED have been very helpful with technical info and general questions. I build and restore vintage & historic race cars (mostly British) for a living and order parts from several suppliers in the U.K. on a regular basis and generally I can have something here (Ohio) in under 2 weeks from the time I order it. I can back Craig up on that. My Rover K series motor was also built by QED, and I've dealt with Simon at QED a couple of times, and he was very responsive and helpful. ( I ordered a set of plugs, a TPS and a set of new wires and they were here in a couple of days.)

Caterham UK and some of the local US dealers as well like Chip at GT Classics, and George at MidAltantic Caterham, and the guys at RMSCI also have been very good to deal with.

I think Bsimon on this site also has a Boat Anchor, I mean Vauxhall lump:smilielol5: in his Caterham as well.

PS, the guys at QED build a pretty good engine too.

Craig:

Yes, that is a speedy Caterham! In my Caterham I was able to hit 95 mph where you hit 141 mph at N Ledges, and was lapping in the '19's.

When I was there 4 weeks ago in my '08 BMW M3 w/414 hp, I hit around 130 mph there.

The track is so bumpy it doesn't really reward a stiffly sprung car either, making your times that much more impressive.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys, especially Craig. To be honest when I get parts to work on my V I order from a Dealer in Butler, PA, and I'm used to waiting a week or two for things to arrive. So trying to use that as an excuse is not going to work!

Robert - I have a friend here in St. Louis who is selling his Caterham SV. It was purchased from and built by RMSCI, and has the high HP Zetec and Caterham 6 speed. Photo of the car is attached.

I've left you a PM with his name and email if you're interested in contacting him.

Nothing wrong with the car, he's just replaced it with a Lotus Eleven.

Steve

Added a few photos of the Eleven, since I know there are fans here.

Steve,

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. Those of us in Cali need to put any out of state registered car purchases on hold until the New Year since the Legislature here is contemplating a law that will make it nigh to impossible to bring in any out of state registered cars like our beloved 7's. They also are contemplating, however, increasing the paltry 500 exemptions allowed each year for registering new/built cars in Cal, so maybe lose one and gain another?
