Birkin S3 in Russia

You have just earned my respect as one very brave driver! I found driving in Moscow a terrifying experience in a regular car. I cannot think what it would be like in a Seven. :ack:

I think I will stick to driving a Seven in New York City.

Do you have a Seven club in Russia?

Okay, here's my list:

1) I absolutely have to know what type of head gear and goggle setup you have because I want the same thing!

2) Love the license plate "007..."

3) Engine kinda sounds like a flat 4 in a Subie

4) The video editing was amazing. I love the flash forward parts.

5) Do the chrome headlight housings ever blind you with sun reflection? :D

Beautiful car!

I am sorry, my English is bad.

1) What do you mean, when you say "type of head gear"? May be Gear shift boot? You may find my gar shift here http://blackit.it/EN/ or here http://www.tuning-net.ru/tuning/element.php?SECTION_ID=6263&ELEMENT_ID=55876

2) I love too!!!

3) I understand nothing. What is a "flat 4 in a Subie"?

4) Thank you.

5) No problem. I can use my chrome headlight like Lateral mirror!

Sorry, I'll restate my questions.

1. What type of helmet or leather cap do you have with your goggles while driving?

2. What engine is in your Birkin? It sounds like a 4 cylinder Subaru engine (flat 4 cylinder).

1) Russian aviation vintage helmet. It was very difficult for me to find this thing. Russian company in small amounts makes. It can be with fur and different design.

2) No, unfortunately It is old Kent Crossflow engine. :(

Don't try do it. Very dangerous for foreign man. Moscow is a beautiful city. But I live in St.-Petersburg.

Well I did try and do it and yes it was dangerous! And that video demonstrates exactly why I did not enjoy driving in Moscow. Great video work.

I have also spent a week touring around St Petersburg on an old Soviet motorcycle. St Petersburg was a much nicer place than Moscow - more relaxed feeling. So much of the historical buildings preserved. I had no problems riding a motorbike in the city - drivers were very polite. Still had to pay a few bribes to police when I was pulled over for no reason (they said I was speeding....)

What camera are you using in your car?

Wow. Why I didn't see you in St.-Petersburg? Moscow and St.-Petersburg are absolutely different two cities. With absolutely different citizens. Foreigners which visit St.-Petersburg say, that St.-Petersburg is similar to Rome. But the climate is worse. That is why Sevens are not so popular like in Europe.

Enjoy Seven of my friend and St.-Petersburg.

Subbotin,

Great shots of your friend's Seven in St. Petersburg! I think those are "calendar-ready" photos for a 2010 (or 2011?) USA7s calendar!

Hank, a leather helmet similar to one that Subbotin was wearing is available new from :

http://www.flying-jacket.com/product-details.aspx?id=15

I have one, and the quality is top-notch. Aviation Leathercraft make both traditional "flying helmets" like from WW II, and "motoring helmets" like you see in old photos from the early 1900's. Perfect for open-air motoring in a Seven!

Hi Subbotin welcome to the forums, you have a really nice Birkin and the video was great to watch.

There is nothing wrong with your kent motor there great I have one in my Birkin which is the same as yours and love it.

Really? I think it is old, heavy and weak motor. I thought to set supercharger or turbo on this motor, but it rather difficult with 2 carbs. :banghead: At first it needs to set injector. I know that it is possible to get about 185bhp with 2 carbs but it is difficult and expensive.

It will be easier to set used or new motor S2000.

Thanks, that would be great. I'll have to check on Visa issues as I've heard that if we stay with the Ship Tours we don't need one, but that if we want to venture out on our own we do.

I believe we start the crusise in Amsterdam on July 27th. and get to St. Petersburg at the beginning of August. I'll check the itenerary again.

Tom
