yellowss7
Guys, I need some advice. I bough a Brooklands set up from Bart L. at LOG and I'm getting ready to assemble and install it. I'd like to attach a center stalk mirror to the band before I install it so I need to chose a proper mirror. I'm looking at this one: http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecID=5927 My questions are, 1) should I go with flat or convex glass? and 2) will this mirror be "too big" as it's 8 1/2 inches wide 3) Any other good mirrors out their at a better price? jbanker
I have the Pegasus Center Stalk mirror with convex glass that you have referenced. You will not regret it. You can almost do away with side mount mirrors. I also have the Brooklands set up. Jack
Guest speedcraft
ive run both flat and convex on the 7's and convex is the way to go. just get used to the 'objects are closer than they appear' bit.
yellowss7
Thanks for the input guys. Just for clarification, are standard center mirrors in normal cars flat glass as opposed to convex? and I assume that the right hand door mirrors are convex. Is that correct? scannon
Anyone know of a similar center stalk mirror in chrome? Perhaps with side mirrors to match.
Kitcat
Tom: I just measured my center mirror and it is identical in size/elevation to the one you are looking at-in fact it may be the identical mirror. It is what Sevens and Elans sells as part of the official Caterham-Brooklands set-up. Mike
yellowss7
Thanks Mike. Is yours convex or flat glass? I was leaning toward flat glass for the center mirror and flat for the driver side mirror and convex for the passenger side one. Does this make sense? I sort of like the normal size view of the flat glass center mirror. I have the convex side mirrors on my full screen and find them less then adequate compared to the center mirror, maybe due to the small size of the glass but I have less confidence in them then the center mirror. drew...
Steve - I run the Spa CF center mount with convex glass. My only complaint is that with my lowered floors the stalk is too tall. The mirror is great - I just need to lower it 2-3 inches. You should have a photo from the end of the day at Barber (Log 29) drew...
jbanker
I cut my Spa center mount mirror stalk down. I can use the mirror with the Brooklands and the full screen. This is the convex mirror from Pegasus. here is the link to my Gallery page: http://www471.pair.com/stalkerv/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=14397 Jack
Kitcat
Tom-I use the flat glass, only because that's what they sent, I didn't know I had a choice. But I am happy w/it and the side mirrors. All, BTW, are a total PITA to adjust, including having to pull the whole thing off the car to make major adjustments on the side mirrors. Once they are set, it's great but who knew that it was so hard to make an easily adjustable mirror (like you mite buy at Pep Boys for $9.99)? Mike M. Croc
John: I had missed that discussion, thx. Perfect Winter/indoor project. Mike M. Mike - I have a bagful of the pieces from Xflow7's excellent idea because I think you had to buy like 25 a go from McMaster Carr. Do you want me to pop some in an envelope and send them out to you? PM me your address and I will do it this weekend. Sounds like a good solution. Croc, do you have any spares you want to sell? Tom Tom - Do you want the same washers/etc in the mail for the Spa mirrors? PM your address to me and I will make it happen. ... Or are you just angling for the carbon center mirror from my new aeroscreen kit? As you can see from my avatar Christmas came early and the box accidentally got opened ....I just could not resist! yellowss7
Croc, I noticed that nice silver looking package:party: I'll send you a PM. We should plan a regional build meeting at your place to help/watch/lend support for the build process. Or you could video your build process as a sort of Video build manual. Would be a great tool for those who haven't done it or those that need a reminder on how to do things like bearing installs, brake pad changes, etc. Good luck with it. I'm starting to compile a list of 2011 trackdays at NJMP and hope we can get a good showing of sevens at some of them. Get the wrenches out and get started. Merry Christmas! Kitcat
Tom: No return to Summit Point? I cld be talked into that, tho NJ is way far. Now that we sort of know where we are going at SP we mite have even more fun. Given that Mike, like me, finds it difficult to locate the time to add washers to his side mirrors in order to make them functional, I am betting he passes on the build-it-yourself approach. Mike M. yellowss7
Mike, I'd certainly do Summit Point's Shenendoah circuit again. That was a blast! I just don't know if they'd let me come back after all my wrong way turns into pit out.:dupe::deadhorse::leaving: You're right on Croc too. He said that the CSR is not a self build. It requires factory assembly. I'll keep an eye on the track day event's and see if we can get a good showing of 7's to at least one. Tom

LOL - I actually took the mirrors and the washers and allen key to London with me a month or two back so I could find time at night to put the washers in. Then I discovered in a hotel room at midnight that some muppet before me had loctited the grub screw in there. Various experiments with heat treatment at home have failed to break it so far... Kitcat
Mike-Sounds exactly like almost every car repair experience I have ever had:). And why I mostly leave it to the "experts". Mike M
