Alaskossie Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Most intriguing to me is that he is doing this in a one-car garage pretty much single-handed. While we have lengthy discussions on many issues, ultimately he is doing this all on his own. Pretty cool I think. No Kidding!!
manik Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Wasn't this the consensus? http://oi56.tinypic.com/11ahix0.jpg
MHKflyer52 Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Wasn't this the consensus? http://oi56.tinypic.com/11ahix0.jpg Now that is FUNNY......:rofl::driving::auto:
blubarisax Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 My top secret inside sources tell me Caterham will announce an Aero Racer (like Radical) designed by Lola tomorrow. Sounds like a fun toy, but I am not sure I see the point.
S1Steve Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 PistonHeads.com has been talking this up for a while. Tommorrow is the Autosport International show, thats were Caterham will let the cat out of the bag. Hope it does better than the ill fated Caterham 21.

readysetgo Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 - "How much to replacing the SP//300.R bespoke Copper tires"?..... - "If you have to ask"..... -
supersportsp Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 I don't think the Zolfe or any Elite reincarnation is likely. I am thinking more along the lines of Westfield XTR or Radical. Something small and lightweight that hugs the ground as it goes faster, instead of trying to leave it. Something with actual aerodynamics. Dang, forgive me for quoting myself, but when your wife is always right, you have to celebrate the little victories. Perhaps I should go into auto prophecy? http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2011/01/web630-caterham-sp300r.jpg
MoPho Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Phew! I am just relieved it is not something I want, I don't have to figure out how to afford it now :svengo:
Boxologist Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Oh yea, look out Radical! radicals are sort of a decent bang for the buck if u don't go too crazy. I have a feeling this Caterham is going to be costing close to a FIA formula team. Any word on prices edit: ~$100k, which is much less than I expected and in the realm of a FAtlantic or FContinetal. It's sort of a shame that they only plan 25 per year. I was expecting a new drivers series a la the Acedemy, but I don't think they can meet the goal of 2012 race series with such a low output.
jturrell Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Phew! I am just relieved it is not something I want, I don't have to figure out how to afford it now :svengo: I am just relieved it isn't a replacement for the car I ordered two months ago!!! (R400) I had this image of the car I ordered being instanly obsolete. What a relief!!! Having owned a Radical, I can safely say this isn't the car for me. Aero cars are cool, but a very minor "off" at the track can cost you many thousands of dollars, and a lot of time. These cars require spares packages and local support. These are "big boy" cars.
scannon Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I emailed Ben at Caterham USA asking when he would have a demostrator ready for me to test drive. Also asked what they would cost. Here's his answer: Sorry but the SP300.R will not be coming to the USA. I am waiting for clarification, but apparently there are some contractual obligations on Lola’s side of things. I have not seen pricing, but I’ve heard it will be in the range of £70K + options. -Ben Caterham USA
blubarisax Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 The least Caterham could do is sell us us the Duratec supercharger!
yellowss7 Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 All I can picture Karl, is a big blower and intake sticking up through the bonnet. :smilielol5: Good thing you are tall enough to see over it. :leaving: Tom
scannon Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 The least Caterham could do is sell us us the Duratec supercharger! Cosworth makes a supercharger for the Duratec engine. It won't increase the height by much but I can't say if the extra width would fit in a Se7en frame. http://www.flyinmiata.com/Store/images/03-90010a.jpg Flyin Miata sells this one for the 2.0 Duratec in the 2006 and up Miatas. http://www.flyinmiata.com/Store/images/03-90010.jpg
jimrankin Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 (1) I know that just about everything that goes through a wind tunnel during design comes out looking about the same but isn't the body on the new Cat just a Diasio with a top chop? (2) Am I missing something or does that Flying Miata supercharger dump right into the intake without an intercooler? It's early and the coffee hasn't kicked in yet so I'm probably not quite focused....
bsimon Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 isn't the body on the new Cat just a Diasio with a top chop? How about "Lola B08/90 trackday chassis with a Caterham bumper sticker". The B08/90 is a de-tuned B07/90 Sports 2000 car.
