I had no idea that Tom (Alaskossie) used it on his car. http://www.reverie.ltd.uk/home.php Croc, I got the first cam cover that Reverie had ever built for the coil-on-plug layout of the Cosworth Duratecs. I had to twist Simon Farren's arm a couple of times, to get him to add it to their line. So spread the honey on pretty thick -- any Duratec owner worth his salt just has to have one of these, to complement all the other carbon fiber on his Seven.... Tom - It did not have to be too thick to persuade me! In a similar approach to Karl, I was originally looking at a retro approach - a BDA-lookalike cover. I know the Zetec has these available but I never found one for the Duratec. So I went for the next best thing - Reverie. That photo of your engine bay looks awesome. It needs a clean but it is the same badge done in black background with polished letters. They (supposedly) originally came from a Cosworth Escort. This will be confirmed by Alaskossie as I think he has one of these.... Until I saw the pics I had not thought of using it in this application. Maybe try Ebay UK to see what they have for sale. The really-cool looking retro cam cover that Karl is going for weighs about the same as a spare tire and is much heavier than a standard OEM plastic jobby. Alaskossie Posted March 15, 2011 Share Posted March 15, 2011 Blubarisax and Croc, I got the "Ford Cosworth" plastic cam-cover badge off eBay UK. You sometimes see them in pot-metal (too much weight!) but this one was lighter, though it was all black at the time. i had it painted body-color silver, then lightly sanded the paint off the raised letters and logo, so that they showed black. I believe they originally came from the Sierra Cosworth Ford; they are definitely not from the Escort Cosworth. I also put side-badges on the rear corners of the bonnet, to tell (advertise?) what was "behind the curtain." See photos. These did come from the Ford Escort Cosworth (the later, small-turbo series 1994-96). This badge is found on the moulded plastic plug-cover that installs between the cam towers on an Escort Cosworth. These were a real bear to find, and to make usable. I was lucky to buy two plug covers off eBay UK, then laboriously trimmed the ridges from around the badges with a razor blade, then removed each badge by sawing away on the exposed edges with fishing-line leader (30-lb test?). As you can see, one of my bonnet badges has suffered from my little encounter with the rear end of an F-150 that I had in Whitehorse, Yukon last August. When you go to straighten it out take a heat gun and warm it up so that it is almost soft but still stiff enough to keep it from slumping. Hope this helps save you emblem. Unfortunately not in time to enjoy temps near 70 tomorrow. I did hear today that the Caterham loom does not come close to fitting on the Cosworth bits. I guess the coils and sensors are different. If they send you the YD8111 loom, it will not fit. edit -- one potential engine loom issue is if the sensor (MAF sensor, I believe) in the airbox is on the bottom, it can be tricky to route the harness connector to it, but it can be done. Or you can relocate the sensor, but the point is that it can be remedied one way or another without too much pain. If the sensor is on the top of the airbox, no issue. Sean Posted March 18, 2011 Share Posted March 18, 2011 (edited) Oops, I forgot - like Tom's, mine is also dry sumped (standard on Cosworth 250-spec 2.3). I had to modify the oil filler cap to be flush with the top of the cam cover and trim some material from the air filter mounting tabs. Unlike Tom's, I have the short input shaft on my T9, which locates the engine just a bit further rearward, necessitating modification of the TPS to avoid fouling the pedal box, and removing material from one side of the bellhousing due to interference with the driver's side footbox. Wow, I guess I left out quite a bit, but they were all pretty simple changes. Thanks for the reminder, Tom! edit - Tom's car is better looking than mine, particularly under the bonnet. The cam cover in particular looks fantastic, and is a functional replacement piece rather than an add-on. I just remembered one more thing - The oil filter/oil cooler assembly provided with the Cosworth 2.3 motor interfered with the lower chassis rail on the left side in a Caterham S3 installation, so I replaced it with one of the Raceline horizontal oil filter mounts, which required a different oil cooler to be used. Sorry Karl; I'd have told you sooner, but I forgot all about that one. edit -- the oil filter should not be an issue for a SV chassis. edit -- this thread has seriously outgrown the For Sale forum!
