Ford/Caterham Duratec 2.0L 220 hp, Dry Sump, Roller Barrel, Motor For Sale

Not even close on my car. Unfortunately I discovered this after I had the exhaust manifold made, so no option to use an exhaust side alternator mount (oh the joys of being an early adopter). I ended up fabricating a new mount that allows the steering column to pass between the alternator and the block.

Karl, the engine looks fantastic. The anticipation must be killing you.

On my LHD Duratec/ Seven S3, i moved the alternator to the exhaust side of the block with an adapter from Mick Atree in UK.

We had to add another idler pulley to get the serpentine belt to avoid that large cast lug on the end of the block. We could have cut the lug off, but Nathan didn't want to remove the head and perhaps affect the Cosworth warranty.

He found a stock-length serpentine belt to fit.

Moving the alternator to the exhaust side freed up some room for the dry-sump fittings and hoses to pass from the front-mounted Brise dry-dump kidney tank.

OK already, parts are going back on, but this is taking for ever, and I have a pass for a track weekend coming up Saturday and Sunday.

Looks like a quality race shop you are using Karl. I think I saw a 1970s Lincoln Continental Coupe lurking in the background :jester:

Being serious for a moment, it looks a lovely piece of kit with a seriously attractive sequential gearbox. Where is this weekends track day happening?

The track day is at NJ Motorpark. Why don't you run down in the CSR. Who knows if I'll have to drive my wife's Volvo wagon or not...

Come on Croc, Everyone else on here knows that is an Olds Tornado in the background. And it looks to be about a 1968. :flag:.

Looking good Karl.

Tom

You are correct Tom. It is a full blown Tornado. The starter motor alone was the size of my Duratec 2.3L.

Karl, I just did a track day on Thunderbolt at NJMP on Saturday. Was a little wet on the first two sessions, Not a good thing when running slicks.

I met a guy from Delaware who has a 2009 S3 R500, with a sequential gearbox.

Didn't have it there on Saturday, but said he'd like to run with a bunch of 7's so he will try to join us in June. If all these R500 + 7s show up it will be awesome! Oh, BTW it's Orange too.

What day are you running at NJMP?

Tom

I'm scheduled to be there Saturday and Sunday. Hope the boys at Radical Motorsport New Jersey get it together in time. Still have not started the Cosworth or setup the Geartronics Flat Shifter. Down to the wire it seems.

I am looking forward to the Se7en NJMP event too. Hopefully Ron's car will be here by then.

I am in Beach Haven NJ on Saturday night. I might try and drop by on the Sunday if I can. I will be in the Audi though.

If the Seven is not ready then why run the Volvo? Wouldn't the Porsche be quicker? Also saves the "Honey, I trashed your car" situations....

Tom - Many thanks for explaining. No wonder I did not recognize it - it is way before I was born. I need an old guy like you to educate me from time to time! :jester:

I actually think the Volvo might be quicker in the corners than the Cayenne S that must weigh 5,500 Lbs.

Hope to see anyone who can make it at NJMP, Just look for the white trailer with a Caterham decal on the side (yes the side stripes I did not use on the car. :cooldude:

Here is an email from my shop to Cosworth. If anyone has ideas...

Dear Kyong,

*

We are having a problem with the MBE ecu relay box*system. It is not supplying any power to the injectors or coils. We did a pin out of the original harness vs. the new harness and they appear to be the same.*We went online with our pc to the new mbe computer to ck. our outputs and we can turn the fuel pump on, all the sensors are reading, we do have trigger signals to the injectors and coils but we do not have power coming out of the relay box to the injectors or coils. Is there a way to control the relay box from the ecu to turn on the power? *The ECU that was in the car is: #38L036A serial #00050869. THe new ECU you supplied us with is:YD0387-02, uid#100128241 notes:YDT0033, and harness#YD8048. Please advise as to what you might think is the problem and what we can do to remedy same.

*

Thanks in advance,

Ed and Bert

Well, well, well... we have put power directly to the relay and are getting the motor to fire, but it is very rough, sounds like something with the timing, like it is off 180 degrees... yikes... Cosworth UK was helpful as was Rich (aka ratchet) but we are not out of the woods... this makes two full days of messing with the electronic ignition system, I miss the simpler days before computers in cars... :banghead:

As you might have guessed, I won't be driving at NJMP this weekend. I am going down just to hang out and check out the action, but will be sadly missing my cheese doodle :cuss:
