Hi Ron, Derek with the 76 cat in oshawa here. What year was the kit manufactured? what year was the car first registered? Just because the ownership says 1973 does'nt mean thats the way customs will view it. Kit cars are often registered as the year of the model they are meant to resemble. You may need to prove that the car is atleast 15 yrs old. You would probably want/ need dmv records from 1996 or prior to ensure a smooth transfer. Especially considering the modern fuel injected engine. I know you have bought and imported cars before and are aware of the obstacles. I am probably a little more paranoid than most. Just thought I would mention it.

BTW Great looking car and price!

Hi Derek

Not exactly around the corner (eastern Ontario, just off 401 at exit 750) but we are resurrecting a mid 70s, early short cockpit Caterham. Keep us in mind if you see yourself heading in this direction. Us Cat types aren't all that common in Ontario!

Great buy I think you have yourself a nice car for the price, car looks to be in great condition and having the hood and doors included is a real bonus for the $$ paid. As I said I wouldn't bother with the wide track conversion as I find the narrow track ok.

As for changes to the car in it's current form the only thing I would suggest is to maybe get the passenger

footwell extended as it's very short and will pose a challenge to people over 5"9 it's a easy conversion to do

And I'm in the proccess of doing it next too my car. Another good thing to do to Birkin's around the 1996/8 years is to lower the seats down into the cockpit which I have done and it dropped me into the car another 2" inches which put my view central to the windscreen.

All us Ontarians will have to get together!

I go to the Bronte Creek British Car Show every September. Have had many different cars there over the years. Everybody in? Maybe a little far for you KiwiBirkin! Will keep you all posted on the progress of getting the car to Toronto. Ron.

Hey Kiwi......

Snap lots of pics and post them here for all to see as you extend the footbox. We need to do similar surgery to our '75 right hand drive Cat and would love to see how you go about the mods.

Thanks

Hi Peter nice Birkin oh and welcome to the USA7s forum. Birkin South Africa will ship parts too you but are a bit slow to respond to emails, your next option is Dick Brink who runs Texas Motor Works which sell Birkin in the US ( use google to search).

Paul Hill I have done the passenger side footwell extension, pics on how it was done are in the members rides section under my car in all took me about 4 hrs with the engine out but could have been done with the engine in as well.

Hello kiwibirkin

About the doors and roof, as Birkin is a seven like a caterham.

You believe that it is possible to assemble the roof and the doors on Birkin. I have a friend who bought R300 caterham S3 frame. it will seek it the next week in the U.K., I will test the parts.

Could you say to me which is the value of my car in dollar in your country.

It is of 1999 in zetec 2000 with throttle body sump raceline, water rail and rigid bridge borg Warner. But not of roof and not of doors. It is very pleasant to speak with another owner about Birkin. Here in Europe Birkin is rare. My car was imported in the U.K. in 1999 has Silverstone after the lawsuit between caterham and Birkin.

I have also Westfield SEIW with a zetec 2000 blue Navy to see the photograph. More the photograph of my head. Good day

Peter

Thanks Kiwi, looks pretty easy........

We are in the same situation with our mid 70s short cockpit Caterham, not a lot of room in the passenger footwell. Since there is no drivetrain in the car at the moment I think I will follow your lead.

Your pics are more relevant than most, our car is rhd as well!

Any other mods you would suggest while I am at it?

Sorry to hear that. Better safe than sorry. My Caterham will be up for sale shortly. Three sevens is two too many (not counting the locost frame and body work in the basement). Hoping to trade the centaur(green 7) for a Harley. Recently acquired Deman sr7 with hayabusa power and right hand drive.

Just an update for all you guys looking for a great Birkin. I am not getting it so it is available again. Too many issues bringing it across the border. My search continues.......

Did you buy it off the ebay ad and now have to resell, does the dealer still have it, or did you not go through with the purchase due to Trans Canada issues ?

Thanks for the link, I'm on the hunt (having owned two other in the past), just not sure if the west/east logistics are worth it at the moment.

"west/east logistics" ??

heck, call Passport Transport, give them a grand over the phone, and the car appears in your driveway as if by magic.... has worked for me many times.
