New Slicks

Ha! It seems that whenever tires are delivered, my wife gets home before me. Then she takes perverse pleasure in calling and announcing, “Great news! There are more tires at our garage door. And just in the nick of time, since I know we were running dangerously low.” Sigh.

Quick get them to the basement to keep them nice and warm

Tom's basement is to nice to put those new tires there for storage as it is a game room and theater and a nice one to boot besides I think his garage is heated and air-conditioned.

Our basement is overrun with tires, piles everywhere and my wife loves to kid me also: "When are you opening your own tire store, etc?" And every financial setback, or windfall is converted into race tire consequences: "Oh, too bad no race tires this month." or, "Look at that money, I can just imagine how many race tires it will buy."

Not complaining tho, she is a saint to put up w/this expensive hobby.

Done! They are stacked in the storage room. (Martin, there is a Storage room down there and no, my garage is not airconditioned or heated) It's freezing out there right now.

Ahhh, I love the smell of fresh rubber in the morning! Cue the "Ride of the Valkyries"!!!

Tire days are happy days!

Willing to share the size and manufacturer? I need to educate myself on what tires work for these cars. I hope to see a lot of track time this summer!

Hoosier bias ply road race slicks. 22.5 x 10 x 13 R25B compound mounted on 13 x 10 inch Kodiak rims.

I had used those rims with a slightly smaller circumference hoosier of the same specs when I autoxed. These new ones have a 71 inch circumference vs the 64 inch circumference of the prior sets I ran. This should give me gearing a little closer to what the original Avon CR500's were and therefore hopefully give me a little more speed per RPM. I caculate that it is between 4mph to 11mph more revs in each gear.

However the sidewall/profile is noticably taller than the previous set, so hopefully it doesn't affect the handling negatively.

Michael, between the barndoor aerodynamics and the clamshells, I don't really think the extra couple of inches in tire width is the major reason I'm slow on the straights. It's most likely because I'm a big chicken and am afraid to put my right foot down hard. :leaving:

:nopity:

That and having to preserve a mickey mouse engine from destruction (Rover K series). You do not understand the power of the Force. Come over to the dark side - try a Ford engine :D

Thanks Karl, and Mike, that's what friends are for. I'm going to concentrate on my (lack of) Driving Skills, this year. I'll bow out of your ever escalating horsepower and carbon war. :jester: I still have plenty of HP for my driving skill level. It's just on the straights where I can't hang with you big dogs.

I dont know what you are talking about? I have not upgraded my engine since it was first delivered from Cosworth UK in 2010 and I have not added any carbon since 2011. Karl is just being competitive with himself and demonstrating the inverse relationship between size of wallet and speed. :jester:

I have gone another direction and have upgraded my looks on track. I may not be fastest but I look...:cooldude:

Hey Box, I hope your craving new wheels and slicks means you are considering joining us this year for our annual 7s at NJMP gathering. Plus I think Mike and I have agreed to sponsor you for a pre 7s gathering track day to give you an opportunity to learn the track with Instruction and at a learning pace. Hope you can find the time to join us.
