LOG 34 - Asheville, NC

Any mention whether there will be a trackday? Not a deal breaker (likely to go), but a part of LOG I've enjoyed in the past.

Steve

My understanding is that there will not be a track event although I would check with the organizer and not take my word for it.

At the Lotus Ltd membership meeting at LOG 33 there was mention that only 7 Lotus people attended any of the 3 day track event at Watkins Glenn. This is in contrast to 110 people who attended the laps & lunch. Part of the low turnout was due to the Porsche club rules (it was their event, they opened it up to Lotus Ltd members) prohibit open wheel cars and they consider a Se7en as open wheel. Supposedly at the last few LOGs the number of people who attend driver education days is down to about 20 people. There was speculation that there are now many track events that are cheaper than those that can be associated with a LOG.

There was also discussion of having stand alone driver education events (that phrase again). Barber was mentioned. It was also pointed out that they have a wet skidpad that is a great asset for learning handling at the limit.

I also heard that the rental fee for Watkins Glenn is $15,000 per day which is the going rate for big name tracks. COTA is currently commanding $55,000 per day.

When my wife & I were returning from the gathering spot for the mountain drives there was a Pantera and a SuperPerformance 7 by the side of the highway. My wife's comment was that the Pantera must have had a problem. I guess she has more faith in 7's than Panteras.

The mighty Seven produced a best quarter mile time of 25.182 seconds at 49.34 mph. I had trouble with the 2-3 shift. It doesn't like to be rushed.

At the auto-X I missed the same gate on each run. The course was a good one. Missing the gate was all my fault.

I drove the Bristol bullring flat out for a few laps, 75 mph indicated. The pace car almost lapped me so I dropped down off the racing surface to let it go by then came back up for a few more flat out laps. The car was sliding around a bit. It was certainly working much harder and closer to the limit than the modern cars.

I heard that the mountain driving loops were great fun. A police escorted each group out of town then let them go play while they went back to the staging area to pickup the next group.

There seemed to be many more couples at LOG than previous years.

Both my wife and I took test drives in an IPS equipped Evora. Nice!

Notable in attendance were POP 444 a Mk VI, a Mk XII from the Barber museum, a few truly special edition Esprits and lots of Evoras.

There was an I-racing setup where you could take 25 minutes to do your best lap. Top times had a runoff.

Three vendors had stuff for sale. There were lots of books, trinkets, logo cloths and lots of autographed items.

Your car is beautiful.... Not surprised you won BOS.

We were part of the Ambush group you met at the MC museum.

Thanks for showing us your car.

Gale

I wish I could tour like guys were doing. Your cars looked huge and substantial compared to our car.

I struggle over what to do with ours. I love driving it but I also want to make it a concourse car. I probably will compromise and use it for a little of both.

I did have an overheating problem when I got caught in traffic. The temperature gauge wound past 230 and I lost about half a gallon of coolant. John from the Barber museum helped me out by magically appearing with a roll of absorbent material to help clean up the parking lot.
