Why my 7 has been sitting

Yeah, my daughter drove it her junior and senior year (little princess). It's been 5 years... got her an 05 mini cooper for college a couple years ago (can afford the gas to visit us).

Now my son is 17. The truck has been under a cover for almost two years, until the upgrade. He's one of the new generation... more interested in computers and making movies than getting his license:( If this doesn't get him interested, nothing will.

My daughter is going to school in Camarillo and there are autocrosses at the nearby airport. She wants to give it a try... so it's still in the genes.

You're right about the kids today, it is giving a big scare to the auto industry. Who will buy their cars ?

 

I have an idea for this truck. Take it one step further. Stretch the bed out, build a hydraulically powered slide floor that slides back and tilts like a tow truck and put the 7 in there for track events. Your daughter's mini could fit in there too if going to autoX events.

 

By the way, you did a beautiful job on this truck. I like the simplicity and clean lines, no clutter and it looks purposeful like a well designed tool.

The truck is looking good Mondo. I have been looking for swb 67-72 myself. I want to do the L33 swap with 4L80E and Flat Out Engineering C4 suspension swap. Finding one of these trucks for a decent price is getting hard. A junker is running 4500.00 around here. Clean runners with updated drive train runs 18-20K. Ive been looking for 6 months or so. I have one spotted in a yard that has been sitting there for about 7-8 months. I may need to go try and talk them out of it.

very nice mondo!

i had a '67 C10 with a 283 and column shifter in the 70's when i was in high school. paid $650 for it and sold it a few years later for $675.that was a great truck. i miss it.

yours is a lot nicer! that rack and pinion is sweet. i recall the recirculating ball steering on my old truck was way vague.

Yeah, going for the clean look... like subtle mods that only people familiar with the truck will really notice; shaved front bumper (no carriage bolts or spot for license plate), turn-signals in headlights, no side marker/running lights, one-piece windows (miss the usefulness of vent window though), mid-70s corvette side mirrors, fuel tank in rear/cap in bed, hidden hitch...

 

No getting around the fact that the modern drivetrain is awesome. Four cylinders shut down when cruising, over 300hp at the wheels stock, super quiet motor under the hood (nice mellow exhaust put on)... can get reliable, silly horsepower increases really cheap if wanted.

It's actually at the A/C shop right now... I think it needs a slightly larger compressor than what came with the relocation kit (at least I'll get a refund on the compressor). If I had more $$ I would of went with a front drop member suspension kit from Porterbuilt. Low truck with good clearance. But CPP is good stuff. I need to customize a swaybar though as the CPP one won't fit (think I have to make an end-link set up).

 

The rear is stock with lowering springs (Early Classic has great stuff too). My next thing will be airbags for the rear so I can tow heavier things.
