V8s in 7s

I think it would be a bit calmer driving a V8 fast... less shifting, less trying to stay in the right rpm range.

That being said, I was raised on 2 stroke bikes so kind of used to shifting a lot and keeping it rev'd up. Bet I would come into corners way too fast with a V8 as the sound would be deceptive to the speed until you got used to it.

 

For a 7 that you want to use for a lot of different venues I think a V8 may be best all around.

Thats my line of thinking. Torque comes in handy. Revs cost $...

Speaking of V8s, I received good news from Glen Minehart today, the Storker V-8 should be arriving in 3-4 weeks. Can't wait to take her to the track!:party:

I am late to this party but I have to relate the fun my 4 banger gives me. This applies especially to passenger reactions after a blat through the back lanes or a run through the cones. "So what ya got in it?". When I tell them my 38 year old Caterham has a 50 year old Lotus Twin Cam lifted from a year 1 Lotus Cortina, mostly I see surprise and disbelief.

So for me at least it's very much an emotional thing and that's not to say I could not get very emotional about owning a 620R but a V8 specifically in a Seven does nothing for me.

Don't forget the engine in the Daimler SP250 sports car (1959-64). It was a 2.5 liter V-8 Hemi, a jewel of a mill in a catfish-mouthed, bottom-feeder, fairly awful "styled" fiberglas body.

 

I'm sure the SP250 engine is not readily available today, but it should be listed in any compilation of small V-8's.

 

(Can you imagine the looks of surprise when you tell people that your Seven has a Hemi??)

 

 

Yes I did forgot that one; It's the Jaguar/Daimler 2.5 V8 and more common than you think, produced in the thousands for the Daimler 250 sedan (including America) although not exactly falling out of trees of course.

 

 

It's not a lightweight or small engine either, cast iron block but very large bore spacing.

The Toyota 3V or 4V would be the choice, have rebuilt a few of them, aluminium, suprisingly lightweight, small, hi-cam hemi - similar to 2 x 'T' series engines stuck together. Don't know about USA but a number of them have been imported into Australia over the decades.

Gorgeous engine. I don't recall ever seeing one before on this side of the planet.

 

 

Ok...so, perhaps "gorgeous engine" was a bit over the top, but they do clean up nicely and have a cool "little red ram" vibe.

 

I think you got it right with "gorgeous engine". While definitely not a Seven, you have to admit the engine looks good in this car.

I don't want to hijack the thread but I was very surprised to read that Toyota also makes or made a 5.0 litre V-12.

 

and they are a dime a dozen in Australia, amazing how many have been imported and used for conversions. The engine comes from the Toyota Century as did the V8s before.

 

Close friend is helping stick one in a club race Supra that already had 850hp from his 2JZ (documented hp).

Found this on PistonHeads.

 

Story has it this goes in the Atom.. I want one for my S1... Till I figured out the price.

 

 

Aaaw, com'on, Steve, just put an LS1 in that beautiful S1; you could call it the L-S1. :jester: Hey, if this guy can fit a V8 in his, I know an LS will fit in yours. :cheers:
