Kitcat Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 18.6 lbs for my 13" wheel AND my Goodyear racing slick. Anyone got a lighter combo?
Croc Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I just broke the wheel off my Trumi rollaboard suitcase and it weighed 20 grams :spam:
yellowss7 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 23.0 pounds for my 10x13 Kodiaks with 10 inch Hoosier slicks. 9 pounds for the 10x13 wheel only, I just bought from Bill. Tom
scannon Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 The front wheel, tire and tube on my Crazy Cart weighs just under 5 lb total. The rear wheels are skateboard wheels and probably about as light as Mike's suitcase wheels. Since there are no springs it is all unsprung weight
Kitcat Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 Tom: I am impressed, given that your tires are 2x as wide as mine:)! Good old clam shells.
manik Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Try some Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 13" wheels: http://www.rimstock.co.uk/wheeldetail.php?ProRace1.2 8.8 lbs per wheel (in the narrowest configuration). I think JohnCH had a comparative spreadsheet at one point?
JohnCh Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Did a search and found the post Manik reference's here. It's 6 years old, so pricing is out of date, and the Caterham wheels have since changed, so not sure how those weights compare to their replacements. -John
Croc Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Hold on - these latest weights from JohnCH and Manik are before tires right? Has to be because it seems so low. My new BBS wheels are 8 pounds (assuming the 7 inch x 13" sizing). The larger 9x13 rear weighs in at 10 pounds. From other forums the Avon ZZR weighs in at 18 pounds front and 19 pounds rear so that gives an all in of 26 pounds front and 29 pounds rear. If you switch "road" rubber out for slicks then that will save a lot of pounds as the race tire carcasses are much lighter - less robust construction. Interestingly if you want to save unsprung weight then going low profile tires will work since the tires are generally heavier than the wheels. But sevens like a thicker tire profile for handling purposes....interesting dilemma.
TheDingo8MyBaby Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 13" x5.5 magnesium minilites with Hoosier td bais ply racing slicks weigh in at 20.1lbs. I'm curious how much the tires contribute to that number...
