East Coast Sevens NJMP Pictures

It's already been said, but a huge thanks to the group for and amazing weekend, welcoming me, and contributing to my se7ens addiction with a ride on the track. Next year I hope to be back with my Birkin. (Does anyone have details on the "right" way to modify a raceline duratec wet sump to prevent oil starvation?)

As promised-

The Good: I've uploaded my pictures from the weekend for people to peruse or download any decent pics of yourself.

The Bad: not having time, and to avoid missing anyone I uploaded MOST of what I took.

&

The Ugly: some of the shots are a little fuzzy if you zoom in too far.

Paul,

Fantastic photos! Thanks! As for the Duratec wet sump, have you considered simply installing an Accusump system?

Thanks for the awesome photos! Great action shots.

As for the advice on what to do next, thanks guys, makes absolute sense. I think I got slightly better Saturday late afternoon but still a lot, a lot to learn about the track and what our se7ens can really do. Kitkat, I agree, I can do a lot better coming and getting out of the bowl..

Question: does a se7ven perform better in turns with 2 people on board or is it simply tied to how we setup the suspension? I ask because I thought Croc mentioned that it might have been the case for him last weekend.. and thinking about it, I remember my car performing really well on turn 1 at Limerock when I drove it with an instructor sitting next to me .. just curious

As for the rims.. Tom, perhaps we could PM on your 13 inch rim and tire option. May not be able to pull the trigger over the next two to three months but happy to look at a few options. Debating between Caterham R500, BBS, Caterham diamond cut wheels or other rim options and tire choice

thanks!

Another +1 on the CF aeroscreen. Certainly it will make a difference on the track, but unlike the other options you mentioned its something you can take advantage of on the street too.

Let me clarify the confusion I caused. Corner weighting is a process by which you can adjust the suspension so that it applies even weight on each wheel when the car has all 4 wheels on a scale. When you do this process it is customary to load the car with the weight of the driver and sometimes also the weight of the passenger. Some sevens cannot be all 4 wheel corner weighted in the true sense as they do not have adjustable suspension perches on the rear suspension but you can at least set the front up to be evenly weighted across the front.

I have found the CSR's handling to be very sensitive to correct corner weighting probably because it has independent rear suspension. When a seven is corner weighted for 2 people versus 1 person and I am driving it on track by myself I find it is unsettled in behavior as I get closer to the limit. Up until November last year (when I reset the suspension) my fastest track times in the CSR were always set with a passenger beside me because the car felt that much better in its handling. The car will perform equally well in the corners if set up for the correct number of passengers who are on board.

If you think the car feels better with on track with 2 people in it rather than just 1 person then I bet that your car was originally corner weighted and set up for 2 people. Our cars are so light that removing 175 pounds (or more) from the passenger seat is a 15-20% change in overall weight and how that weight is transmitted through the 4 wheels.

Did I clarify or just confuse more? :svengo:

Some shots from the weekend:

# 1 is on the road to NJMP. Also serves as sort of a visual representation of what its like to be on the track in a Caterham between 2 V-8 Stalkers!

#2 is BBall's ultra-shiny Caterham, sitting in its ultra-cool trailer.

#3 & #4 are details of the Stalkers of Shane and Mario.

#5 is Michael D, showing just how confident we Caterham owners are in our inherent manliness.Beside him is Mario (I think his Rottweiler is chained to his Storker).

Yet more shots:

#1, Rain in the paddock on Lightening, the nite before the July 4 event.

#2 This poor guy misunderstood the event concept and brought toque, not torque.

#3, July 4.

#4 Rain in paddock July 4, a.m. It was into this lovely mess some of the more foolhardy of us ventured.

#5 Tom's front tire, my front tire.

They keep coming:

#1-Group photo at the barbeque on July 4. Note the weather change! This is at a track owner's place near Millville. It includes everyone at the 2 day event, not just the USA7s folks.

#2 is the view from our outdoor barbeque/group photo on July 4. All the folks in photo #1, below, were seeing this view.

#4 so much food, so little time....

Last set, again from awards night.

And to summarize the 3 day event:

Thursday night: outdoor barbeque/dinner/beer, socializing;

Friday nite: Ditto

Saturday night, indoor dinner, drinking, socializing AND awards for being there and for drinking, socializing and eating. Apparently there was even some racing squeezed in somewhere along the way.

#1-Other Jeff (Hey there were 4 Mikes at my table alone that nite, it gets confusing), accepting his hardware (plastic ware?) in the spirit with which it was given.

#2-MichaelD with Croc (Michael J), joining Jeff2, and Tom being photoed by me (Michael M) in the awards line.

#3. Now it gets wild up there: Scott on left and Pete, on right join the other honored award recipients up front and they and the crowd goes slightly crazy.

#4. Tom presents Nancy (Hands clasped, Klassic69's wife) with the good-sport award for coming to this event with her husband (yet another Michael) on her 45th wedding anniv. What you cant see is the wedding type bride/groom arrangement on the token award. Tom's lovely wife, Kathy, looks on at the left, no doubt thinking: Tom better not try this with me:):)).

#5. Time for some bench racing and general revelry.

I slept 10 hours a night for the 2 nights following this event.

What a great time!!!!!!

Thanks again Tom (Yellow SS) and Mike (Croc).

I edited a few laps from my last session on Saturday and posted it in the Seven Videos section. I'm holding off on posting any other videos; don't want to take away from what Croc has planned. Here's the link, and my apoplgies for the lack of sound in the video; following the previous session, I turned off the camera mic to resolve an ignition issue and failed to turn it back on for the next session (bonehead, I know :toetap05:). The only sound is that of the Traqmate charging the Replay camera. :svengo:

And in the seven in front, I see the mess unfold in the rear vision mirror and I am doing a thumb jerk back behind us to his dear Dad, Larry, who was riding shotgun with me. Larry takes one look in the passenger side mirror and makes the universal sign of resignation..."Thats my boy!" :cooldude:

Excellent car control/save on the fastest, scariest turn on the track, IMHO. So easy to try to jerk back to the right and, around we go...., where we stop.....???

Found one of the Survivors of the Karting challenge, although Klasik 69 (mike) and Karl took off before this picture was taken.

and a picture of the Podium finishers. :seeya:
