I have quite a bit of experience with Rich Kamp (Kampena Motors); he did quite a bit of maintenance work and upgrades on my 1994 Caterham and eventually sold it for me on consignment. I have seen the work he does building new Caterhams in his shop; he is a bit slow but does meticulous work on the builds; I would love to someday have a car that he has built. He is a "one man show" and tends to work at his own pace; "deadlines" usually have a very fluid definition for Rich! He is a very nice guy and knows everything there is to know about Caterham and Lotus cars. I would STRONGLY recommend that you use Rich for your car because getting a Caterham licensed in CA (through the SB 100 program; which allows the car to be licensed and forever smog-exempt) is very tricky and somewhat arbitrary. Rich knows the nuances of the system and some tricks-of-the-trade that can greatly improve your odds of getting it licensed.

I installed the leather Caterham seats (on sliders, so they can be adjusted) and am very happy with them and find them to be very comfortable (I have driven up to 150 miles at a time). The original cloth Caterham bench seat should only be used as an "enhanced interrogation technique" after waterboarding has failed; they are WAY beyond uncomfortable!

Pretty nice collection of vehicles!

Give us your location and I suspect there will be someone nearby that may be able to help... There is a lot of skill and experience on this forum.

Need sage advice from the Seven world
centerfireman replied to rjmelo21's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Agree with the above comments. Sevens are an irrational passion. I had a 1972 (Series IV) Lotus Seven that I had to sell to return to school; 32 years later I purchased a (used) Caterham because once you have driven/owned a Seven they tend to get into your blood. There is no other car that has the same combination of fun, simplicity, performance, uniqueness and "craziness". As noted above, I think if you purchase a good used Seven at a good price (I am partial to Caterhams and I think they hold their value better), and take good care of it, you could probably sell it after a number of years without taking much of a depreciation hit. Good luck... -
Shipping 7 s and other prized cars

Intercity Lines, Inc. 800-221-3936. You will probably speak to Sharon Snedeker, who coordinates the transportation and is a pleasure to work with. -

I have been very happy with Intercity transport. I have used them twice, a Caterham from PA to CA and Ferrari from IL to CA. Highly recommended. -
Thank you for the incredibly well-documented "incident analysis". As has been noted above, you were "lucky" in some regards, but I doubt that the last few months of pain, hospitals and rehab have felt very "lucky" for you. I suspect that many of us will have a new-found attitude about safety, both on and off the track, and your accident will undoubtedly help prevent and/or minimize injuries for those of us that are willing to take your experience seriously and make some changes going forward. Best of luck with your recovery.

I had an excellent experience with Intercity (PA to CA).

Hello: I am looking for a single leather 1/2 Caterham headrest. Must be in at least excellent condition. Thanks.

I agree with Alan; could someone please post accurate information on how a Caterham can be safely towed/secured in the (unlikely!) event of a breakdown? Thanks.

I had excellent luck with Intercity (PA to CA). It was about 30-40% more for enclosed transport (and worth it to me). HIGHLY recommend Intercity.

Importing from UK & changing a car from RHD to LHD?
centerfireman replied to FE07's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Though I do not know what is involved in converting a RHD to LHD, I purchased a RHD Seven from England back in the 1970s and imported it to the States and drove it for 6 years before selling. (I believe that importing one from overseas and getting it licensed in the US would be far more complicated now). I found that RHD was very easy to get used to and (if you are right-handed) there are some advantages to having your dominant hand on the steering wheel during a shift. I agree that RHD probably is a negative at resale time, but if you plan to keep the car (and are able to get it licensed here), you may find that you will be fine with leaving it as a RHD and avoiding the expense of the LHD conversion. -

Thank you for the suggestions (serious and otherwise!).
-
I know this is a trivial question but my leather Caterham seats squeak like crazy (over every bump, everytime I reposition myself in the seat, etc.). It seems that the metal seat frame itself is making the noise as it moves and flexes. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions before I go crazy? Thanks.

There is a gentleman in Britain that fairly routinely sells brand new reprints of Tony Weale's book (in paperback) for about 1/2 of what the used copies are going for on Amazon. That is where I purchased mine but (unfortunately) I do not remember the sellers name. I see them several times a year on eBay. Hope that helps...

I think the theory is (again, with no proof) that with the heater passages capped off, there could be areas within the block that are "dead spots" with little, or reduced, flow. With a hose connecting the in and out-flow ports for the heater, coolant flow should be the same as if the heater was in place.
