  1. HAVE TO AGREE WITH SNOOKWHEEL ON THIS ONE and also laughing at it and woundering why....
  2. That video sure is going to be look at by the insurance company very closely you can bet.....The guy that shot that clip will most likely be interview also by the insurance company as they were and are key witnesses to the independent. Sure look like a scam to me as others have stated in earlier post.
  3. More money than brains as the driver was not going fast enough to make it across the marsh.....:smilielol5:..... Gald I am not the insurance company for that one......can you see the look on the adjusters face when he or she reads that report....
  4. Well it was a bad tappet that caused the cam to come through the engine case while in cruse mode. If you look at the lower right corner of the photo you can see where the cam burst through the case at the web which is the thickest part of the case (bottom of photo is the top of the case). Engine had 1497.8 hours of run time on it and had just been inspected at 1496 hrs so it was very unexpected when it happened. I actually rolled into the truck scales after I had touched down on the road on that stretch of the highway which has all the power lines running over it. The scale operator was very surprised when I pulled in and came running out of his building like he was on fire. The semi driver that I touched down in front off was even funnier when he finally pulled up and asked if I was OK and then said he had to leave as he had to go change his paints because the last thing he expected was to have an airplane land in front of him on the highway after coming out of the mountains. I told him thanks for stopping traffic so I could get into the scales and off the road. The FAA person kept looking at the road and the wires and trying to figure how I was able to get under all the wires until I explaned that I had actually landed before the wires and rolled into the scales area.

    wonderful

Me too if that is what it takes.
  6. As a Pilot and one that has experienced what it is like to lose an aircraft engine while in flight and have to make a forced landing off airport (see Photos I am the guy with theyellow hat) I can say that Captain Sullenberger is one very cool and confident Pilot and Person who saved a lot of lives that day with his actions and decision to land in the Hudson instead of trying to make it to either of the airports that the controller was talking about during the emergency.

    Wtf

Arya you forgot to add with little to no SAFETY gear except a roll-bar and seat belt and maybe a crushable steering colum....smileing and knoding in agreement.
  8. Hi Mazda, First of all the 911 Cab's came in all years from 1967 to present. If I was going to recommend a Cab for someone to purchase I would tell them to look for a 1999 to 2004 (Porsche Model 996) as they are the water cooled engines and are very dependable and also have the best fitting tops for their age and amount of use but like all convertibles they do have some issues but nothing that should keep one from purchasing a well maintained and cared for 996 Porsche Cabriolet. You might want to contact the local PCA Group for the area that you live in as most of the members are very informative and knowledgeable. Here is the phone number for PCA National Office in Springfield, VA. 703-321-2111 and they can point you to a number of good sources for your research for your area. You will find that most Cabriolets / Convertibles will command a premium price as their owners usually demand a premium and usually get it for nice cars. The local Porsche dealers are also a good source for information but you most likely are aware of that. Good luck in your hunt and do look at all the models that are out there, Porsche 911 1964-89, Porsche 964 1989-93, Porsche 993 1993-98, Porsche 996 1999-04, Porsche 997 2004-Present all considered a 911. Hope this helps.
  9. I will have to side with slingsht about the rod.
  10. How about if your still building things for your car like trunk cover, convertable top, etc.. If that qualifies as still building then I will say I have been building for five yrs and counting as I have had my car on the road just over five years now........
  11. Ouch....Hope everyone is OK as the car can be fixed. Looks like the sign actually helped in preventing more damage by lifting and stopping the car. I guess you where wishing for maybe five more feet to get stopped from the looks of the incident.

    Rip

Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmid a very special person. May he rest in Peace and watch over us all.
  13. Have to agree with Hank on that one.
  14. I think you are correct on that, if you just look at the cost to ship one here and then the markup on that to make a profit and to also make it worth the hassle and time. An example that is not a 7 but a Porsche, you can do what is called a European delivery where you purchase your new Porsche through specific dealers here in the USA and they arrange for you to go to the factory and pickup your new US Spec Porsche and also spend two weeks in Europe driving the car on a nice vacation and then they will service the car and ship it to the States for you to pickup at a port of entry where you just have to fill out some paperwork and then drive your car home for the same price that you would purchase your new Porsche at the dealer here in the USA. Volvo has the same program and I think so dose BMW and MB if I am not mistaken. I have done it twice and will do it again as it is a lot of fun and is a great way to spend a vacation and purchase a new car.
  15. Boxologist, What happened to you front fenders. I hope you have not killed so many cones that you destroyed your fenders......:smilielol5:.....:jester:
  16. Well here is my input in order and don't take it to seriously: 1. The Sun: Don't drive your car with out a ballcap and sun glasses or only on cloudy / overcast days......:smilielol5:......get a softtop to keep you out of the sun. 2. Nauseous after drives: Purchase and use Meclizine or anti motion sickness tablets which can be purchased at all drug stores. Don't go so fast through the twisties or around corners......:smilielol5:......slow up to prevent the roll effect while driving. 3. Stressful driving- I live in downtown atlanta: Move to the country where their is less traffic.....:smilielol5:......you should try driving in Southern California traffic, out here you have to drive like you are riding a motorcycle or you'll get run over by and SUV that is on 20" rims and tires and has never been anywhere near dirt let alone off road and usually driven by someone who is totally into bling and might have a drivers license or is shaving or putting on makeup or the such...... 4. Drive feeling: Adjust shocks to give a softer ride and drive on smoother roads......get the setup correct for street driving and not auto-x-ing and loose the wing.......:smilielol5:...... Could not resist....sometimes I just park my 7 for a couple of weeks or longer and do not even go near it until I get the need to go for a ride....I tell people that it is my four wheeled motorcycle that dose not fall over when I pullup to a stop sign and they seem to get that and just smile....hope you figure it out, but that is part of owning a 7 and the way it is in most cases if it is setup for track and auto-x-ing and you drive it on the street. I find that I am good for about an hour before I have to take a break and just get out of the car and strech and walk around before I get going again on most drives.
  17. When GM first came out with their Electric car back in the early 90's as a test bed they had to incorporate a type of whistle or humm in the rims / hubcaps as they found that people in the city would do what you stated "step off the curb in front of it because they didn't hear it coming" it is still a problem with even the Prius that is why they almost immediately start the engine when pulling away from a dead start.
  18. Nice photos. I sure do miss the changing of the trees and the colors during this time of the year here in Southern California but that is just one of the prices we pay for living out here in Southern California.
  19. Wow....your very LUCKY....did you go buy a LOTO TICKET when you arrived back home....I guess you did not have to as you really did win by not being seriously hurt or losing your car to the fire.....I guess you will be installing a fire extinguisher as an option in your car.....good to hear everything is OK and you’re not hurt except for some missing arm hair..... So are you going to shave the other arm to match or just tell people that the lack of hair on that arm is from putting that arm up into the air flow while driving your 7 and having the friction of the air passing over your arm remove the hair.........:driving:
  20. Boy I bet the Beamer driver is in a lot of trouble over that one. Very smart of Hyundai to be so nice.
  21. Thats a good one....I especally like the Dick Chaney one as I want to do the same thing sometimes.....
  22. That still will not help you as your wife seems to have that under control even without power steering......:jester:......
  23. Funny Morgan I was thinking of a certain MG C GT Car and Driver that we both know that would be on his bumper on that road without very much effort on his part, I would suspect even you in your 7 would be on his bumper as I have tryed to chase both of you and only been able to just keep you insight between turns on some other twisties in the local area..........
  24. Just my 2 cents worth but I would suspect that the expense of making the frame and all the necessary parts to mount suspension components was much more expensive to build and would even be that way today. I would also suspect that to repair one of those frames would also cost a lot more than a steel frame. When you get down to the weight and strength of steel tubing to the amount of aluminum you need to have the same strength and rigidity of the steel tubing you usually have about twice the aluminum to achieve the same stiffness and rigidity of the steel I do believe from my experiences.
  25. I think the Tesla driver was very lucky to be alive after that accident from what I can see in the photos that were posted in the link.
