  1. Don't scare off the newbees. Where there is a will there's a way. I have a (ahem) 42 inch waist and am perfectly snug and comfortable in my old (86-89) Birkin. Those are pretty much the S3 design. Really tight was a Renault R5-Turbo (mid engine job) rally car with a seat made for the typical 145 pound race driver. At the time I was probably 200 lb., 36-38" and it took 20 minutes to hit bottom every time I got in! Then bliss. Those are lovely cars.
  2. Re: 2012 Caterham Superlight R400 SV - well optioned How can you call that nicely optioned when he doesn't even say iIF it has tail lights?
  3. It will be very interesting to see what BAT can get for it. Looks like a nice piece. BAT auctions now seem to be the place to sell certain cars, like low miles Miatas.
  4. Old school. Real deal. Bet ONE liter can be fun. Series One http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Other-race-prepared-/161681781780?forcerrptr=true&hash=item25a4fc3414&item=161681781780
  5. Do NOT be afraid of the RHD. I have an early RHD Birkin. I have driven a couple RHD cars before in the US. (GT-40, Postal Jeep, don't ask) Once you are rolling, it makes no difference, assuming you look ahead anyway. The only disadvantage to RHD in the US has disappeared, at least in Texas. Used to be, you could not see if waiting to make a left turn with a vehicle on the opposite left turn lane. Now that is not an issue, since everyone else on the road insists on driving a Light Duty Truck as a passenger vehicle. You could be driving LHD and you still can't see to pull out safely. RHD is a non-issue, and a great conversation point.
  6. If you have never attended the 500, I highly recommend it. It was also a great venue for F1. The city really knows how to do things right. The traffic is very well managed. For the 500 & F1, we took buses, and it was the best way in and out. Somebody have fun!
  7. Lovely photo on Bring a Trailer. http://bringatrailer.com/2015/03/26/1961-lotus-super-seven/ This 1961 Lotus Super Seven runs a Cosworth spec Ford 1500 four and 4-speed Quaife gearbox, the seller further describing it as a period-correct build with 120 HP on tap. Race ready, it’s sold with a CVAR logbook but remains street licensed and road legal. We dig the classic, polished sheet metal/green/yellow/red color combo, and Brooklands screens and Minilites are also very good choices. Find it here on Hemmings in San Antonio, Texas for $33,900.
  8. Duane, You're breaking my heart, man. We all have our highs and lows, and I can chart most of mine through the cars around. Best wishes for the future, and I hope the car sells well.
  9. So, another site to bookmark. Must not be on Croc's webb crawler's radar. Nice tip, Mr. Urfer.
  10. The first car badged as a Lotus: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2015/02/19/upcoming-auction-to-feature-the-first-car-to-wear-the-lotus-badge-colin-chapmans-1952-mark-iiib/?refer=news I bet it never looked this great back in the day. Love that interior shot. Anyone won a lotto recently? Mr. Croc?
  11. Blue and white = USA racing colors! Otherwise, it would have to be BRG, also dark. Here in Texas, just being in the sun is bad. Sometimes you just take your choices. This one won't be cruising with the AC on.
  12. Bump. Not too soon to plan for 2015 season. If we could get 3 cars on street (140 wear rating) tires, we could call it a class. Go to the web site or PM me. We usually finish about 15:30.
  13. bump of sorts. I sign up for the year. We are usually finished about 15:30. If we could get 3 7s on "street" (140 wear #) tires, it could be a class. Race tires would be in DM.
  14. I was also Catholic. What's a beer?
  15. I fail to see the problem. Some forget that while beauty is only skin deep, so is ugly. Maybe it should be posted on LocostUSA site. (I'll leave it to y'all.) Other than the freight, customs, etc., all it needs is a quick stop at Harbor Freight for an electric saw and modest hand tools. Strip off all, ALL, (really, ALL) the visible body and replace with locost bits, and puff, a viable Westfield!
  16. "A bunch of Caterhams all at the same workshop/dealership in SF area - repeat visitors. In fact they have been here so much you have to wonder if they (or the seller) have something wrong. " I can guess what's wrong. The PRICE! Anything can sell if one adjusts the price accordingly. People would say there's a lot "wrong" with my car, but the price was right.
  17. As opposed to the Birkin Formula One team? (mines a Birkin)
  18. http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1990-caterham-super-seven/ as of 11-20, it's at $7k, but 12 days to heat up. not mine, etc.
  19. "However, here is a beauty for Shane. I think it may be an electric seven. Is that an electric motor in the boot/trunk area? Needs some finishing touches to be perfect. A few wiring things to tidy up. Maybe a bit of a polish to make her shine? $1500. http://janesville.craigslist.org/cto/4674910930.html " Did no one recognize the missing LotuVolks? The front suspension is classic. Combine the genius of Porsche, Chapman and Watts and this is what you get.

I stripped the chassis to bare metal and have repainted and re assembled it. The Kent motor and transmission are not with the car, and there are many choices of vintage and current motor options, depending on your preferences.... Body panels are readily available This is a good opportunity if you have always wanted to complete one of these super quick cars for street or track age shown is approximate, and it is a clone , not a true LOTUS http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/4672068031.html Sounds like one here about a year ago. Very old looking. Rough. In some "museum" donated but not wanted, by them. Maybe bought cheap by someone for the engine/gearbox? I can't remember the asking price (with engine), but I don't think it was more that now, without.

  22. SCCA Texas Region autocross starting this weekend. What venue could be more perfect for a Seven? Beat the Corvettes on courses they are too fat for. Not much money. If we could get a few to commit, I'm sure the region would give us a separate class. Great excuse to get together once a month. First event is at a small lot, all others about a mile. One event on Texas Motor Speedway infield road course. Go to the link. http://texasscca.org/soloautocross Sign up. Come beat my old (1980s) Birkin and it's old, fat driver. If you get a trophy, wouldn't you really rather have it from SCCA?

  24. I just bought it. I guess now I need to officially join the club and post a new thread. Thanks to USA7s.
  25. OK, I give up. I want it. If you're ready, call or email. mgillett123@yahoo.com 214-415-9258
