WCM Ultralite S2K @ Pacific Raceways 08-11-08

Chad great video, I hope you are beginging to enjoy the Ultralite experience. You are alot like me. I finished my car on friday night and was at the track on Saturday for my first DE weekend. You didnt waste much time hitting the tarmac either. What kind of tires did you go with? What pressures are you running? -
I really enjoyed the newsletter it was a very fun read. Mazda for the record I would just like to say. My name is Loren and I am a Modiholic.

The performance will be close to the same all things being equal. Weight/hp. Kevin ran at the Ultimate Track Car Challenge this year and was a few thousands of a second behind a highly modified Atom. The Atom had a full built motor, port and polished head, built short block custom ECU and running Rotrex supercharger like us. The only real difference in the cars was the Atom had 11" hoosiers all the way around and brake upgrade over factory and he had 60k more in his car than Kevin has in his. Keith ran against some Atoms last year at Eagles Canyon raceway for a magazine story in his locost. He beet them by a good bit from the way I remember the story.

I didnt get one in my email.

I saw the car and Run and Gun last year. It was the best looking Stalker I have seen. The car is very tastefully done. Fit and finish is top notch. I hope to have a chance to pick his brain some this year if he attends R&G.

I agree with Dave if your going to do alot of autocross then high horsepower isnt needed. On the a road coarse it is a different story. Hp will play a much bigger role in making you fast on a road coarse. All things being equal, driver, weight car setup higher hp will knock off time. Example my first Ultralite in stock form ran a best of 1:25 at Motorsports Ranch. After supercharger and no other changes I was at 1:22 3 seconds a lap is a big difference in 1 lap.

Kevins car is very managable on the track. It can step out if you roll on it to fast but it is very easy to control just let out a bit and the butt snaps into position like a good little soldier. It is very managable on the street you can cruise all day long an it is very mild manared until 4500 rpm or so. After 4500 things tend to pick up at a very rapid pace until 9000. Switch gears and hold on because you are in sweet spot of the power band and it just keeps pulling all the way to 6th. I am sure there are some 450-500hp cars out there but they are few and far between. I think if you get to 450 rwhp it is going to be a bit of a handful to drive. I still would love to give it a try.

Kevins car is 381 rwhp on ethanol. It is a fairly quick ride. There are a few others with similiar power to weight ratios but probably only hand full. We are going to be attending the Texas Mile in Oct and see how it does in the standing mile. We will be increasing the boost and putting the hammer down and see what the top end will be I am betting 170-180 mph range but we will see if that isnt too lofty a goal.

Kevin is in GA he has a supercharged WCM Ultralite. I know it is a bit far to travel but could answer alot of questions. Certainly worth a look if going to spend that much. He is going to be at Road Atlanta next weekend for NASA DE event.

Car size varies alot between makes. A Birkin is a very nice car but its passenger compartment is very small in comparison to Stalker or an Ultralite. I would be sure to see and sit in as many different varities as possible. This may influence your decision more than looks performance. All of these cars from 100 hp- 400hp are a blast to drive. So take a serious look at what your intended use for the car is and go from there.

now we are going to have a hard time looking a the wives at the national meet without thinking if they got the special edition undies:)

That car is sold to guy who is going to run a race series of 7 or 8 events. It is some sort of barrel racing like horses only with cars. He is planning on reselling at the end of the season.

Good job chad. It will take a few weeks to work the bugs and then you can spend the rest of the time diggin the bugs out of your teeth.

To bad the Corbin isnt still in production they would be selling like hot cakes. I would love to get my hands on one of those bodies.

I have seen those and they are very cool.

I have talked to several people that have built similar designs and they all state that the trike in this configuration will pull enough lateral G that it is hard to stay on it. It essentially is no longer a motorcycle so no lean angle in needed. It is a 3 wheel car, that looks like a bike. The dual rear trikes handle poorly in comparison to this design. I am thinking of putting my seat on a pendulum so that it can swing from side to side this would allow you to lean into the corner and keep most of the G force on your butt not to the side. I had thought of rear engine and I have thought of a 4 wheel design with IRS all the way around. I think with the engine near center. The flat six will put the center of gravity very low. If I figure my roll center correctly this thing should be glued to the road. I test road the Spyder yesterday and it is a blast. But the Cg is very high in comparison to my design. Mine will be about 15k cheaper to boot. Some examples

I have been wanting to do one of these for a while. So with high gas prices now is good as any. Idea reverse trike. Kind of like the Can AM Spyder. Power comes from a Honda Goldwing 1500 6cyl. It will have shaft drive and single side swing arm from a Goldwing 1800. I will then build a dual a arm front suspension like a Locost. It should get 45-50 MPg and be a hoot to ride. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1606849421_DSC02022.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2101503414_DSC02021.JPG

Brands Hatchin a SuperSized (1548cc) MegaBusa...Awesome!
WestTexasS2K replied to BusaLoco's topic in Seven Videos
Looks like there is going to be a new engine option coming up in the next year. The new 09 Yamaha VMax V4 it rated at 210hp and 123 ft/lb of torque. With that kind of power in a 400lb bike people will be wrecking them like crazy. Be prepared to pay though. The bikes are 18k and the first 2500 have already been sold. -

Mandurath that looks like some good material. I bet those guys will enjoy going thru the materials. You can ship it directly to them. http://www.operationcomfort.org/html/contact_us.html Thanks for the support. -
catch can be put inline with the PCV valve.
-
I have seen this issue a few times myself with an Ultralite. When you are in full rev vtec engaged and get out of the throttle vtec dumps massive amounts of oil in the valve cover. A sharp right hander soon after vtec dump can cause the instant vacuum increase from the intake to suck oil thru the PCV valve. A catch can should elevate the problem.

I think that they would love the books on Locost construction. You could mail them directly to the shop if you like. I am sure once they see how one is constructed maybe one of the guys will be willing to tackle one.
